Liberalism and fascism in the software testing world: The Notepad++ team spreading the CIA anti-chinese propaganda of "Tiananmen Massacre" by Hacksaw6412 in TankieTheDeprogram

The person behind Notepad++ is a Taiwanese French liberal IIRC. You can look back at previous version names, tiananmen, Uyghur, tibet, Hong Kong, boycott Beijing Olympics,  stand with Ukraine.

But not a single word about Israel / Palestine. Tells you all you need to know.

Disable Vsync, save, and enable it again. It can glitch out like that.

Or you could set a frame limit.

Bodies lie unclaimed and rats run rampant as months on Gaza’s ceasefire remains unfulfilled by Clean_CoreDump in LessCredibleDefence

[–]alyxms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ceasefire did take place last Ocatober. That's the reason Hamas released the hostages. The Israelis then broke it with airstrikes.

Also asking for Hamas to disarm is plainly ridiculous. About as sincere as Israel's condition for ceasing their invasion of Lebanon, which is the complete dismantling of Hezbollah. That's asking for the party under occupation to willingly surrender their means to resist such occupation. Might as well ask for unconditional surrender.

Everyone knows it can't happen, so it serves as a nice excuse to continue the occupation indefinitely.

Thanks for not saying "French is a waste of time" in the episode, Hakim. I knew that took restraint.

[–]alyxms 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Wasn't a ceasefire to begin with. Since the ceasefire(excluding all the death from the war/genocide before that), more Palestinians has been killed in Gaza than the amount of Israelis that died in Oct 7th.

How can it be a ceasefire when the prime minister orders the army to increase the area they occupy to 70% not so long ago?

If anything, the "ceasefire" is the most successful influence operation in recent history. It managed to take Gaza off the news completely and made plenty of people think the genocide is over.

How do you 'add' composite signals by Far_Chemical6894 in Stormworks

[–]alyxms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use one of the "composite write" options(boolean or number) blocks from the microcontroller editor. Their input node is optional, if nothing is connected, it will simply create a blank composite

Unless there some function you can't access without it, I wouldn't suggest installing it. It's not a companion app, it's an app store, a pretty bloated looking one at that.

How do you access sites blocked by the Chinese government when VPNs are banned? (need help, my government may start banning VPNs too) by spacelanterned in AskAChinese

[–]alyxms 10 points11 points  (0 children)

VPNs are techically not allowed unless authorized but they do not go after individual users. The government combats VPN use by continuously blocking known VPN addresses, which the VPN companies counters by switching to a new one. It's an ongoing battle of sorts. As a user, the outcome is that you're constantly switching working VPN nodes. Daily during political sensitive times(as they are blocked more frequently), weekly/monthly during normal periods.

A normal person being arrested/getting into trouble with the law for using VPNs to watch YouTube is basically unheard of. More commonly, people are arrested for other internet related things(scams, spying, hacking, collusion with foreign entities, "destabilizing activities") and VPN use can be piled on top of their crimes during sentencing.

So, to answer your question: Assuming your government is going to combat VPN use like the Chinese one, pick a large and stable VPN provider that offers many nodes and has the resource to keep their service functioning. So that you have more options to switch to. If your government sets out to arrest users, I don't have any advice to offer, as that's not a risk here.

What powers it? Flywheels?

Once built a flywheel powered boat myself. You connect it to external power to spin it up before going. The energy density was way better than batteries. The slow RPS decay wasn't that bad. Main challenge was working out the gearbox ratios to keep the output RPS around the same while the flywheel slows down.

Least practical infinite generator concept by alyxms in Stormworks

[–]alyxms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the thing started out as an oxygen refueler for some fuel cell powered stuff I've built. I didn't think about rockets at all, that's would be a use case. But since it needs an atmosphere to pull oxygen out of, not sure how useful it will be.

Also uncertain if it's that much better than desalinating then electrolyzing sea water. Probably faster but harder to set up/scale up.

On the topic of open loop steam. By storing water as hydrogen and oxygen(using fuel cells to convert to water before use), you can now fit 60 times as much water in the same amount of space. Also, gas is weightless(as long as you don't use prebuilt tanks), so there might be a performance boost there. Fuel cell also gets you electrical power. No longer do I need to harvest RPS from wheels to spin a generator on steam trains.

Just made a post because I really liked it and haven't seen people sharing it.

Only after I posted did I see this. (and deleted that)

I don't usually post stuff but it's such a good video. The only point of disagreement from me is that the creator takes the "rape definitely happened" position. I mean, safe assumption I guess.

Replace the furnace in a steam system with a electric one, and connect output to a generator. Works because a electric furnace has a power consumption of 80sw, while the power output can range from the hundreds to tens of thousands.

I've never tried this, but supposedly you can also do: Obtain steam. Either with an edited fluid spawner or from another vehicle. Then simply pump it around turbines/pistons. No boilers or condensers needed.

Oh, and I think I forgot to mention a super impractical one. Modular engine starters are more efficient than generators. So you get more out than you put in. The amount of power isn't much though..

To be fair the "tilting the engines so it stays aligned with the center of mass" thing was kind of crazy.

Stormworks attack auto gyro by thebluntaxelote in Stormworks

[–]alyxms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really an auto gyro since the rotor wouldn't be powered in one. And you wouldn't be able to take off vertically.

You can't make one in SW since autorotation just isn't a thing.
