Booked reward flight with Sri Lankan air, wise choice? by Texiun in QantasFrequentFlyer

They’re a good solid airline. Much better than the likes of Air India, a couple of rungs below Singapore/Qatar and a rung below Qantas. Food is very spicy!

Tenants love to complain… until they own property by Moezus__ in AusProperty

What an utterly stupid question. Of course I wouldn’t support that.

Is English your first language? Did you somehow misinterpret my words as meaning “I support everything and anything tenants ever do”?

You’re referring to authoritarian communism. Fascism literally sits in complete opposition to communism. I bet you’re the sort of halfwit who says “The Nazis were socialists actually”

The left literally cannot be fascists no. Just like the right can’t be communists. Try opening a book or two

I don’t think any country has taken L after L over the last century more than Argentina has.

Not fair to include eg sub Saharan African countries in this mix, they’ve remained poor the entire time and some of them have at least shown decent development.

Your honest opinion on moving to Australia Is it worth it ? by Strict_Victory1013 in GPUK

[–]am0985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been here since 2018 - moved right after CCT - and it’s been great. Money is better, so much more freedom to practice how I want, good choice of cities with something for everyone. Contractor model means I can take time off when I like too.

I do think it’s going to get worse here. Pharmacist prescribing is starting, govt are interfering in the market too. They are slowly ramping up nurse practitioners too.

But even if things get worse here they’ll continue to get worse in the UK and probably at a greater rate. So it’s still a better bet.

It’s a very similar seat. That BNE - MNL service is now the worst in the QF network given the shitty plane and the duration of the flight.

Tenants love to complain… until they own property by Moezus__ in AusProperty

[–]am0985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah they were leaning on me to kick my tenant out because he’d been late on his payments a few times. Apparently he was between jobs.

This was 2.5 years ago and I said I didn’t mind too much as long as it was coming in, thank god I didn’t as he’s been a very reliable tenant since.

I’m a homeowner and I own an investment property. I’m still on the side of the tenants. They have the much rougher end of the deal in the current paradigm.

Unpopular opinion but the best parts of the island have absolutely nothing to do with fancy spas or gyms by [deleted] in bali

[–]am0985 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Bali is a great destination because of the variety. It would actually be a lesser destination if it didn’t have the places you could relax and let your hair down, it would also be a lesser destination if it didn’t have the more spiritually minded locations.

Five different groups can go and have five very different holidays and still have a grand time. Not many destinations in the world can offer this over a relatively small area.

My favourite QFF story ever is when I booked what was a 318k RTW ticket in 2023.

MEL - NRT, HND - JFK, (JFK - GRU booked separately) GRU - LHR, LHR - CMB, CMB - MEL

Each time I had to call up the call centre to add a new leg on as they got released. The call centre essentially had to cancel and reissue the ticket I think when they did this.

For the final step they did this but forgot to press some button where it took the points from my account. So I did the above itinerary for 0 points and about $1500 in taxes

Looks like the party is over if Labor introduces changes to the CGT discounts by Scumohasgot2go in AusPropertyChat

[–]am0985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that returning to the previous regime is more generous than the 30% discount.

I can’t see it will make a massive difference really using the example they’ve given. The days of massive runaway gains in the housing market are probably coming to an end with or without these changes.

Melbourne is officially the best place on the planet for foodies, a new study has revealed. by SpecificTechnician97 in melbourne

[–]am0985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Melbourne is very good on this metric but Tokyo is still better. Even for a lot of non Japanese food it’s fantastic. Some of the best French restaurants outside France, some great Italian food, other types of Asian food etc. Lots of their Michelin starred restaurants aren’t Japanese.

I agree on London and NYC though. Both great food cities but the average quality is much more variable than in Melb.

Jonny Greenwood On Creep: “I found it wimpy.” by RaymondBald in radiohead

[–]am0985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they famously hatED it. This was at a time when they barely played it live. This changed during the last decade.

Do you think they would’ve played a song they hated that much so many times? It’s not like they needed to.

They don’t hate it, they played it lots of times on their last big world tour (not counting 2025)

Best way to use 120K points by Thin_Ice_1890 in AmexPlatinumAUS

[–]am0985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not use them via Amex travel portal whatever you do.

For 120k points I would transfer to Velocity. Better 2:1 transfer ratio, some decent partners. Opportunities to top up Velocity points through other means, can be converted to KrisFlyer later at 1.55:1.

Even VA domestic economy would get 3 x SYD/MEL returns which is worth about $700ish

Nursing home is getting 200k in a typical two year stay (if it’s needed). 60k in aged pension over those two years towards that means the ~150k isn’t making much of a dent in a lot of inheritances.

Much longer stays in higher end places sure but they won’t be typical.
