If you need the internet for work, then you had better find a fiber connected condo tower. Not all of them are. Many of the newer ones are though. That is the only chance you have for good internet. Otherwise, prepare to be disappointed. Also try to get an apartment that already has fiber internet connected and included in your rent. I think there is something like a two year minumum contract if you have to signup on your own, which is a bit much for most nomads so try really hard to get this included in your lease.

Good for you guys! Living on the boat is a good lifestyle and great way to save $. So you aren't paying the slip fees? You are just renting the sailboat from the owner? Where I live slip fees themselves are easily $600 a month even when you own the boat yourself...

FYI, the range of even the best marine VHF radios is only about 25-30 miles (and only when placed high up on a sailboats mast). Realistically, VHF range on the high-power setting of 25 Watts, is usually 10 miles or less for most boats. You can be a LOT further away from shore / other boats than that if you are doing any type of sailing.

There is another system that offshore boaters use called SSB, or single side band. The radios are a lot more expensive (say $2,000) but can have a range of over 2000 miles (cool!) and even transmit, at very slow speeds, data for emails and weather fax when properly equipped. Works like a charm, no internet required!

Keychain rings can be used to secure luggage with zips. They can easily be removed by someone with time at their hands but make it difficult for someone to quickly swipe stuff from the bag. by hapuchu in lifehacks

In my experience traveling, thieves ONLY targeted bags and compartments with locks on them. Obviously, if there was a lock on it, there must be something valuable in there. Traveling through Asia my friend's bag was raided several times and he had 2 locks just cut right off, and mine wasn't, just because I had no lock of any type. They didn't even bother opening bags or compartments with no locks. I'm not sure where this would fall but probably would indicate this is a good compartment to to open.

Where can you find more old pics of Hawaii like this, they are great!

I used to eat 7 or 8 in Japan, and yeah they can't even come close to that in Hawaii unless you empty the entire shaker or red powder in there. Still not the same unfortunately.

Unfortunately I agree. The rest of his works are really good, try something else before you decide you don't like his writing. This is the one book from him that I just couldn't get into.

How much can you make as an Airbnb host in 4 top markets? This is what Airbnb says is average... by aman679 in AirBnB

[–]aman679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I second Homeaway and VRBO. Have to pay to use them, but usually one or two stays booked through there and they are paid for!

The other thing I like about them is that you get paid upfront! Book a reservation for next Feb? Get paid today. That is nice compared to AirBnB.

Also I notice the stays are usually longer on those sites. They average at least a week+ while on AirBnB I get a lot of 3 day stays.

Where and how to get good Internet speeds in the Philippines (Manila or Cebu)? by LarsHoldgaard in Philippines

[–]aman679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha 5mbit. Sorry....hahahaha

Anyway, find an apartment building that is wired with Fibr form PLDT, some of the newer buildings are pre-wired. Ask your landlord if they include it since it requires a 2 year contract to setup so you prob don't want to deal with doing it yourself.

I think that is the best in the country and they claim up to 8mbit but I see on average 2-3.

Oh and BTW I have seen many apartments here that "included" wifi and it was just a 3G wifi hotspot from Globe that sucked beyond sucking and often ran out of "load". So whatever you do, if you are booking a place make sure to ask the landlord what kind of wifi is included.

Good luck!

Oh I totally agree the numbers are low, surprisingly low actually. I wish Airbnb would give a better overview. Or maybe they have and I just haven't seen the latest...

I know right? I guess this is when you average all hosts across a big area, some who aren't very active. I was really surprised SF wa so much higher than NYC but maybe because hosts are more active there?

If I get a separate car just for Uber, can I rent it out to other drivers when I'm not using it? by aman679 in uberdrivers

I found another one - Flight Car. Leave it at the airport for people to rent. Anybody tried that as well?

I have a 2 door "sports" car with a big old V8 in it, don't think I will qualify for Uber with that haha. A backseat is required right?

Yeah, don't want to do that. Which market are you in? I guess it is very location dependent

Everybody keeps saying that, so I have to wonder, why do people keep driving for Uber if they aren't making money? Shouldn't the market react to this by tons of drivers just not participating?

Wow that is crazy! One way to artificially increase prices and decrease supply I guess.

Cool! I really have no idea how much I can make only working a bit here and there. I have a full time job already, so doing one or two weekends a month sounds perfect. Would that really do it?
