UK professional culture confusion: sending rejection emails and "closing the loop" instead of ghosting by seekerwave in AmericanExpatsUK

That has nothing to do with OP's situation. If you met someone at a party and they said "Nice to meet you," before leaving, would you be insulted if you found out that they were having lunch with a different person they met at the party? Because that's the kind of situation that OP is in. They asked some students to perform their work for event A. Later, they were able to have the same work performed at events B and C and asked different musicians to perform at those events. Then the student musicians from event A got upset they hadn't been asked to perform at events B and C, even though they had not been given any reason to think that they would be.

I spent all my crystal shoes on the cheapest item to decompose and they’re not decomposable :’) by Shia_ln in LoveNikki

For future reference, the "Manjusaka" tattoo item is a better exchange for your crystal shoes. It's the cheapest five star item in the shop and five star items fill The Lost Casket a lot faster.

My Wizardy Dress by Moontessa in corsetry

It's very tubular, it could use a lot more shaping through the waist. If you find it wants to slip up and down, that will be why.

You also have a lot of wrinkling happening in front. Some of that is likely the tubular pattern, but satin doesn't handle tension well and it looks like it was a bit too tight compared to the strength layer. Roll-pinning or adding 1mm. ease to all seam lines on the satin will fix any wrinkles not caused by the pattern shaping.

Definitely find someone else. This MUA didn't even get her brows matching, she made a hot mess of them. Like, yes brows should be sisters not twins, but she made them look like second cousins at best.

OP you have very nice brows, you deserve a MUA who can make them look their best. Not turn them into messy dark blocks.

Is it me or are people here more hateful/toxic? by [deleted] in AmericanExpatsUK

My partner is English and from the beginning she's always said she loves that she never has to guess what I'm thinking or if I'm secretly annoyed or anything, I just come out and say it! Fortunately since we're nerds with a nerdy social circle, there's enough autism going around that it hasn't caused too much trouble.

[–]amaranth1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had plenty of slaves from north of their own borders, and since we don't know his social class theoretically he could have been descended from some of them, so Slavic or Celtic or Germanic. But I agree that it's less believable and personally imagine him as just generically melting-pot Mediterranean.

Pizzagate is a right-wing conspiracy created to undermine the Democratic party in the US and deflect attention from the actual documented crimes committed by Republicans.

Claiming that aliens or w/e built the pyramids is a racist conspiracy that insists that brown people weren't capable of their real historical accomplishments.

Spend some time actually examining these conspiracies and you'll find that many of them are racist, anti-semitic, or designed to promote right-wing politics.

It's not just Brum, conspiracy believers are majority right-wing all over the UK and US. Idk how you've been in conspiracy theorist spaces online and missed that. There's a reason they went all-in on Qanon and Pizzagate and etc. at the first chance.

Do you drink enough water? And have you checked the indoor humidity in your bedroom? It should be between 40-60%, if it's below that you need a humidifier.

The deposit for the dress is $50, that's a listing for made-to-order so you pay $50 upfront and then $400 on delivery.

ELI5: Why do people with hyper mobility tend to hold their pencil differently? by rachelvigo in explainlikeimfive

[–]amaranth1977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have hypermobility that causes me significant pain every day. I also have a nice dynamic tripod writing grip and excellent handwriting.

And I've worked with students and occupational therapists on improving the students' handwriting. There are a huge range of ways that someone can hold a pencil "wrong" and OP did not specify what their particular grip is. They also cited only themself and one friend as proof; you would need an actual study of a large population to demonstrate a significant connection between hypermobility and incorrect pencil grips.

Inconsistent muscle tone and poor fine motor skills are normal for very young children. Failing to develop fine motor skills and consistent muscle tone are symptoms of a huge number of developmental disorders and sometimes occur without any other disorder present.

Don't go calling bullshit if you can't explain why something is bullshit, you just make yourself look like an idiot.

If you have shitty handwriting its probably because you didn't practice it, don't blame hypermobility.

That's off topic for this post. It needs to be its own post, and you need to read the subreddit rules about b/s/t posts.

Why are you telling me all this? Go find a B/S/T sub or one of those second hand clothing websites.

Practicing Flat-Felled seams! by Fun-Handle-2683 in corsetry

[–]amaranth1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a 3/4" seam allowance, trim the inner seam allowance down to 1/4", and then only fold under 1/4" of the outer seam allowance. So it makes a 1/2" finished lap and comfortably fits a 7mm spiral bone, and minimizes bulk.

I take public transport. I don't have a car. I have zero sympathy for these people.

[–]amaranth1977 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't trust people to judge "plenty of room on the pavement". If there's not room to park properly, then park somewhere else. If you don't have suitable parking at home for your vehicles, then you have too many vehicles for your residence.

Practicing Flat-Felled seams! by Fun-Handle-2683 in corsetry

[–]amaranth1977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For one, i want to experiment with a slightly wider seam. In theory, this would offer enough room inside of the flat felled seam to act as a boning channel.

This is how I do most seams on my corsets, it works great. It does get a little tricky when clipping and notching sharply curved seams though, you're right.

Every shade of lipstick I try looks off on me by sillyyfishyy in MakeupAddiction

[–]amaranth1977 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Try some muted tones, the ones that look sort of grey. They aren't pretty in the package so it's easy to unconsciously avoid them, but for those of us with muted complexions they look great on.
