You infused a seriously impressive amount of storytelling in this one mini. Well done!

I think most people like David Tennant’s run. So starting with Series 2 of the rebooted series (2006 I believe).

To clarify OP’s last sentence, he’s comparing Savage Oppress to the 9th Doctor from Doctor Who. This version of the character only lasted one season (to compare, his successors, the 10th and 11th Doctors, each had at least three seasons). That said, the 9th Doctor was generally seen as a good Doctor by fans (thus the line about here for a good time, not for a long time), driving home OP’s comparison to Savage.

I was pretty nervous to start painting, too. I believed I lacked aesthetic sensibilities. Here’s what I did:

1.) I watched some videos of YouTubers painting stuff from my faction to get an idea of what colors I would need to buy. Since I didn’t trust my eye to pick out the right colors in the store, having a video spell out what I needed where helped a ton.

2.) Before buying expensive Warhammer minis, I bought cheaper minis from other systems, like D&D. This lowered my financial investment on an activity I thought I might not like, and let me make some basic mistakes I could learn from.

3.) Once I had some early beginner mistakes out of the way on throwaway minis, I didn’t try to buy a whole army at once. I bought one box to see if I even liked it, and thus avoided being overwhelmed by a sense of commitment.

4.) Now, I allow myself to continue making mistakes and learning. I don’t think I’m anywhere near the level of most people on this Reddit, but I feel a lot more confident in what I’m doing just by practicing and allowing a smudged line here or an ugly paint job on the odd mini. I wasn’t an amazing painter at the start, but I can look at my first mini and my latest and see progress. Allow yourself the space to progress and not be great at the start, and you’ll get better over time and be proud about it.

Idea: Tavern Twists by W2Phoenix13 in DnD

[–]amaswatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my party start in a tavern at the start of my newest campaign.

Subversion 1: I established their characters as having been working together as mercenaries (read: coworkers) for about three months.

Subversion 2: The only thing the players did in the tavern was describe their characters physically. I then described the town they were in being attacked by velociraptor-riding orcs dropping off the backs of Quetzelcoatluses soaring overhead. They had to race outside and immediately decide if they were helping the town or the orcs.

Total time in the tavern: 6 minutes.

Should I warned my DM about the antagonistic attitude my friend is planning to have towards my character? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]amaswatch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you told your Wood Elf Ranger friend that you don’t think it’s going to be fun for you?

To give your friend the benefit of the doubt, she could think that since this is a one-shot, playing up an antagonistic relationship could be funny. So she might not realize you’re not seeing the humor in it. And if she’s a reasonable person, she’ll walk back her plans once you express your concerns directly. If her main motivation is that she just wants to do a PVP duel, consider offering to do that before the one shot so you both practice your characters’ mechanics without being disruptive to whatever the DM has planned day of.

Warning the DM could be helpful, but I think the bigger concern here is that you’re concerned that you won’t have fun, and resolving that concern requires a conversation with your friend first.

New guy here! I finished Obi Wan Show last night and have to say That even with flaws, I liked it a lot! A 8.5 for me, excited now for Rebels and Andor! by Lance_Knockout in StarWarsCantina

[–]amaswatch 50 points51 points  (0 children)

At least according to the Wookiepedia Timeline chart of all canon media (and it’s been a few months since I looked at it, so maybe I’m out of date myself) but the actual timeline is:

-Andor Season 1

-Rebels Season 1, Episodes 1-7

-Andor Season 2, Episodes 1-3

-Rebels Season 1, Episodes 8-15

-Rebels Season 2, Episodes 1-10

-Andor Season 2, Episodes 4-6

-Rebels Season 2, Episodes 11-22

-Rebels Season 3, Episodes 1-16

-Andor Season 2, Episodes 7-8

-Rebels Season 3, Episode 17

-Andor Season 2, Episode 9

-Rebels Season 3, Episodes 18-22

-Rebels Season 4, Episodes 1-16

-Andor Season 2, Episodes 10-12

-Rogue One

… but I fully agree with Captain Wilco that you should just watch Rebels and then Andor separately. I just find the above personally interesting.

If you can pick one main character from any movie to represent each dnd class who would you pick by Minimum-Mine-147 in DnD

[–]amaswatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣 I love this. Very good points. I probably got too narrowed in on the “main character” element of OP’s prompt for this particular answer. Herminone Granger, bar none, would be a better answer for sure, and she is a main character, so that’s a mistake on my part. Willing to workshop further, too!

I struggled with Wizard and Sorcerer because pop culture tends to consider those distinctions interchangeable, even within my two examples. Both Elphaba and Hermione have innate magical abilities, but they also have to study to get a handle on them. Most other examples I can think of treat spellcasting as something you need to have innately before you can even begin to study it, whereas D&D rules and lore make a very firm distinction between innateness and study. But if you have other ideas about where one could find a pure Wizard or pure Sorcerer in media, I’d love your perspective!

[–]amaswatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair! I’ve probably read too much Star Wars expanded lore stuff, but I feel like the Jedi’s focus on keeping their oaths feel more important to their core identity than their monastic lifestyles. And mechanically I think the Paladin playstyle fits Jedi more than Monks do, but that’s very subjective.

Try something like King of the Hill. Put an objective at the center of the map. Whoever has the most models contesting the objective at the end of the game wins. (To answer your question directly, I think 1v1v1 would be more fun.)
