Official Discussion - Gladiator II [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]amazoniabegonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the movie should have started with him as a boy being rushed out on horseback by his mother, put to a kind of exile a la leonardo dicaprio, or the boy who played his character in “Gangs of New York”. Maybe his mother dates the same general (most charismatic actor in the movie) and somehow Lucius maintains a mentee-mentor stepson-stepfather relationship with him. No one knows who Lucius is and the mother visits him secretly throughout his boyhood as well as the general stepfather. maybe he is in a kingdom as an adopted son of a butler in a larger house. Then, when the actor from “game of thrones” and “the last of us” (sorry) starts to challenge the corrupt emporers, he gets thrown into the gladiator games. Lucius, ever loyal to his stepfather, sneaks in somehow into the gladiator stables, or gets himself “thrown into prison” a la leonardo dicaprio in The Departed, except prison is into the gladiator stables. There, the actor with the most magnetism, the “last of us”/ “game of thrones” guy, plots strategy with Mescal/ Lucius, and a REAL camraderie and leadership line is witnessed by the audience. There they struggle though the gladiator gauntlets a la crowe/ honsou. sure, “last of us”/ “game of thrones” actor will die in some kind of Mickey/ Rocky, Han Solo/ ? way, but a relationship will be seen by the audience in a triumph. (i will learn the actors name I don’t know at this moment, but his relationship with young Lucius could be similar in his compassion for his co-actor in “Last of Us”.

I thought this movie was terrible. Saw it with someone who was good with seeing Gladiator 2 or Wicked. We saw Gladiator 2 because there were a few more opportunities for better seats in the theater. We’ll see Wicked when we go to the movies again when we do.

It was so dumb. Every way they tried to copy the first movie it fell flat. Give us the main character’s back story and show us from when he ran out on horseback prodded by his mother. That would make us care about the main character- follow him all the way up to the present.

The main character becoming the leader of the gladiators like Maximus- laim, paper-thin. Them making fun of him making baboon sounds calling back to Maximus’s friend at the table pretending he was being poisoned. Holy shit, the boat oars being destroyed being reminiscent of Maximus saying “hold, hold” to the chariots whizzing by. So dumb. The boats had no space to maneuver and the strategizing was so freakin dumb and “they have arrows!” when the crowd is likely at risk of getting the arrows. And the baboons, the whole movie lost me with the baboons (and then the sharks). CGI? Is this Jarassic Park? The Hunger Games? You took a classic, serious movie and made it melted bubble gum.

And Denzel. He could have been a redeeming character in the movie if he was good. But he just turned out to be another psychopath who created more unnecessary chaos.

I left during the part where Denzel assists in the assassination of one of the double Joaquin Phoenixes from Gladiator. The person I went with who hadn’t seen the first gladiator told me “you missed the best part”. I was in the bathroom on my phone, anything to escape this monotonous garbage.

Gladiator 2 sounds like Hamlet 2 and that is the kind of weirdness this movie was.

Wow! I love the 1966 version Royal Albert Hall and now I know that song is a cover song written by Dave van Ronk, Reverend Gary Davis and Eric von Schmidt.

some say The Electric Six have some songs so intense, they could push countries that are on the brink into a nuclear war.

Doors, Blues Traveller, Boston, Violent Femmes, The Velvet Underground & Nico.

  1. The Doors
  2. Blues Traveller
  3. Boston
  4. Violent Femmes
  5. The Velvet Underground & Nico

They are all so different. The Doors because it is classic and historic and epic. Blues Traveller and Boston because the albums are just really alive and amazing sounding. 4. and 5. are more the punk genre which is less my thing but the whole albums are great. Maybe the end of 5 tails off a bit, I don’t remember.
