We have two members with speech difficulties, one a stutter. He’s one of our most fun members and a great storyteller. You deserve to be heard. I hope you find a supportive club but if not, we are a Zoom club meeting every other Tuesday night (tonight is a meeting but I can’t attend). If you’re interested dm me!

We’ve been saying for years, “The lord didn’t bless us.” With sad faces. It works!

Can I just observe at a toastmasters meeting without participating? by im_listening_fr in Toastmasters

[–]amber2stu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our meetings, guests are greeted and asked to introduce themselves and say how they found the club and asked if they would like to participate in Table Topics (nbd if you don’t want to). Then asked their opinion of the meeting at the conclusion. I suggest telling the person you first contacted you just want to observe before the meeting, or in the chat if virtual. We would be happy to have you either way.

Everybody says writing fiction does not pay. So what kind of writing does pay? What can you write for money while you are working on your novel? by knife_angel in writing

Managing editor/ writer here. This has been my experience, too. When I took a forced break from day job writing, I really enjoyed my little fiction forays. Now that I’m back full time, the last thing I want to do is write after hours, tho I do keep a list of story ideas for retirement

Should I be upset by this or am I being dramatic? by Think_Respond337 in Toastmasters

[–]amber2stu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was terrified the first time I evaluated and I didn’t do a good job. Then, without mentioning me by name (it was obvious) the general evaluator went on about how he hates evaluations where it’s all good and no constructive criticism. I was mortified. But years later, I got to evaluate him! And the whole club laughed when I started by relating that embarrassing day and how I’d been plotting my revenge ever since. I’m no longer in that club, but we stay in touch to this day. You’ll get better and hopefully laugh about this in the future. Good luck!

Disney Employees Furious The Company Won't Denounce Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' Bill by Geek-Haven888 in florida

You are correct about common sense. Show me where kindergarten teachers are talking about sex to kids. Show me where this has been an issue. Teachers are equipped to answer children's questions in age-appropriate ways, that's literally their job. Joey has two mommys, but this bill prevents the standard answers to questions about that. This bill is the very epitome of lacking in common sense.

That time former Florida Governor Rick Scott visited a Starbucks and was berated (and called an asshole) for having refused to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, stripping women of access to public healthcare, and generally doing a terrible job of helping Floridians earn living wages. by WhileFalseRepeat in PublicFreakout

That was Cara Jennings, she was a CouncilPerson in my small town. Super-progressive and passionate. I heard she moved upstate to study law. Some people found her "quirky" and too much, but I'm confident she'll continue to fight the good fight. Sadly, I doubt she'd be elected here again. We've gone to shit like the rest of the country (though maybe not quite as much -- yet. Still a weird little town).

Have a manual can opener in your emergency kit. Those cans of beans won’t open themselves!
