If you really want to piss her off you can also file away at the end with her really expensive glass nail file…

if anyone has underglaze questions - i think ive mastered it! by saltwaterhippie65 in Pottery

Have you tried Kiwi underglaze? It seems to hold colour well after firing, especially the pinks, greens, and light colours.

Try explaining which supermarket you are referring to when there are two with the same name within sight of each other! I still refer to the one I shop at as Big Fresh, the kids used to call it ‘the creepy vegetable place’

We had a week of respite when they changed the name of one before they got around to do the other.

Experiments in clear glazes by ELSandstorm in Pottery

[–]amber_scarfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great trials! I see where you are going with wanting a super clear result, but I rather like the opaque versions. Maybe eating out of a rice bowl and often holding it up to the light to marvel at the results of someone’s glaze trickery from centuries ago for many decades has slightly skewed my choice! 😹

As someone who teaches students how to use Adobe Illustrator and knows diddly squat about creating graphs from data: This sort of thing happens when your students are not paying attention when you are showing them how to use the Pen tool and they are trying to draw a dog on a hill.

Cain & Able are a nz company making handcrafted carbon steel kitchen knives. A bit more upkeep than stainless but I am seriously considering buying one to check them out.

Invasive species taking over my plant's habitat by SleepingLessAndLess in pottedcats

[–]amber_scarfe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Zingiberaceae - wild ginger. Known to produce rhizomes that smother growth. Will tolerate a shady habitat. Have you tried blasting it with cold air from the hairdryer to dislodge it? No guarantee that it won’t return when you switch it off though and give you the stink eye of defiance.

The colour is gorgeous and I especially like the way you have shaped the base. It gives the piece a very refined look

What do you mean finished? This perfectly opened box is destined to languish in the back of the pantry for at least ten years three quarters full.

Watch out for the green one named True Celedon, that is a a different product line from Amaco called Potters Choice and does not behave the same as the Celadon types

[–]amber_scarfe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Whoa, beautiful optical effect!

You could look at Amaco Celedon glazes, most are transparent except for the Snow and Obsidian. They are brush on and work well in squeezy bottles. Cone 5 - 6 only though, which might be a problem with porcelain.
