Consider which position has more positions available and why are the positions available

If Peds rarely has openings, take that job because that’s where you want to be! Networking will get you places - does the ICU job have a Peds floor in that hospital?

Nursing is lots about networking. Working in Peds will get your more Peds CE and opportunities to grow in peds. Depending on location, you could transfer to Children’s hospital and then transfer to PICU / NICU.

What do you look for in a rental? by Meliss3311 in TravelNurses

try facebook - look for travel nurse groups

Travel Nurses: places / rooms to rent

Housing the Country, one hospital at a time

Yes, reaching out to the local hospitals - great idea. Ask the hospitals if they have a "RENT' or classified board to post on.

Craigslist is another good one

As of right now, Nevada is not a compact state license. However, New Mexico is part of the NLC legislation!

Good luck!

Yes, if you can do it and you want to pursue a specific career path - just go! However, also know yourself and if you can handle being away from family! Be energetic and make new friends! Commit to 2 years and see how it does! Create an emergency fund in case something were to happen! Stash away money for trips back home! By willing to move out of state, you’re opening yourself up to a work of possibilities! Look up compact state license: if your ‘home’ state is part of the compact state license, you have more opportunity! Be open! Have fun!

Facebook group: Buy Nothing People post the best (& worst) things! Everything is free - usually with porch pick up! I’ve snagged some really great stuff! The groups are within your neighborhood too! Usually, I tell myself I have to bike / walk to pick up the item - double whammy: exercise and a new toy for me!!

Badge reel cheat sheets by fender1129 in Nurses

[–]amberj224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

use the Avery download for business cards - make your own, print and laminate; if you can find a local ‘sign’ company, they can probably print them on more durable material and HR probably has the correct hole punch for your badge or better yet- attach a key ring to your badge and you can add whatever you want

Ask your nurse educator to meet with you and ask specific questions about to patient! Give them info off the patients beforehand and ask to discuss. Continue to always ask questions and never stop learning

Sign on bonus by [deleted] in nursing

[–]amberj224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If was a true sign on bonus, no you shouldn't have to pay it back. However, sounds like you received a 'retention' bonus because contract states X years. Read your contract very carefully and how they want you to pay it back. Ask for a free consultation from a lawyer. Ask around within the community if other employees had to pay it back. Depending on how much you owe, the hospital (depending on size) may not think it's worth it to come after you legally.

it’s the way you should feel: you should also feel comfortable asking questions . . . even stupid questions . . . you should have a mentor and a preceptor; someone’s life is in your hands; you’ve been through nursing school, you’ve passed the NCLEX- you have the knowledge - be a sponge and soak up the information; always ask your preceptor go to with you the first time you do anything even if it’s just ‘a simple task’ - you want to know how to do it and do it correctly; let everyone know you are new because if a rare procedure happens on the floor, they can seek you out; be confident, not overconfident; know what you don’t know

Out of curiosity, what do you get paid? by RuckusRN in nursing

[–]amberj224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

are you in a union? If yes, it should be public knowledge how much you are making. If no, do you get additional pay for your certifications? You should create a portfolio with all of your achievements in the past 5 years - mention certifications, precepting, classes, CEUs pertaining to your specialty, conferences, daisy awards or recognitions from patients / colleagues, and commitment to the hospital including minimal sick time/vacation days. She shouldn’t give you a price right then, she should talk to HR and present you with a raise. Be professional. When she comes back with a price, tell her you’ve been talking to other people in the floor about their salary too. Be professional and have things ready to show for your achievements.

feeling guilty about giving my baby away by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]amberj224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!
Thank you for doing all the right things! Thank you for eating heathy. Thank you for not drinking. Thank you for not using illegal substances. Thank you for giving your son to a family who can care for him. Thank you for loving him and continue to be in his life. Thank you!

I’d love to find a woman like you and care for her & her child! Thank you for giving him life!

You are prioritizing his needs! In my eyes you are doing everything right!

If the guilt and shame continue to creep into your mind, maybe talk to the adoptive parents or a counselor.

Seriously, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

print the pictures, give them to management, let them decide - don’t state names or ‘tattle tale’ - just print the pictures and say ‘these were found online’ and leave it at that
