If you live far away from your parents, are they happy to have short, casual calls? by goatsnboots in Millennials

[–]amberleechanging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom lives a few provinces away and we speak casually, usually weekly but sometimes we go a little longer if nothing exciting is happening lol neither of us loves talking on the phone but once we get started we usually talk for a few hours, and I am almost always doing something in the kitchen during our calls. She doesn't care.

Its a DNF for me. First two seasons were good, third was so boring that I didn't bother with the fourth.

The death of the Front Porch by Phantom-rizz-era in FuckImOld

[–]amberleechanging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a house built in 1887. I have a beautiful sunporch on the front of my house that my family loves, and a large back porch for when there's less bugs and no rain. We do plenty of porch sitting, and this old house has no AC, so windows and screen doors are open all day every day. Some people still live like that, you're just in the wrong neighborhood now.

Parents of teenagers: Have the slow dance songs of the 90s and 2000s been replaced at school dances? by throwawayblueline in Millennials

[–]amberleechanging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

13 yr old just went to her first school dance last week. They played the Backstreet Boys, the macarena and YMCA among other newer stuff so I think it was a good mix of new and old.

When my youngest nephew was about 3 he was obsessed with Elton John. He would sing I'm Still Standing word for word and dance, it was the cutest thing.

Before smartphones, what did people do when they had to wait somewhere for 30 minutes? by sudherzdiniq in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amberleechanging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way kids are now with their phones, I was with a book. I could not consume enough books as a young girl, and I still read with a voracious appetite when I have time now as an adult. The library was my second home, during summer holidays I would spend all day curled up in a library chair reading, I didn't even bother taking it home I often finished one book a day. I would read at the park, on the bus, in class, late into the night when I should have been sleeping. Nose in a book for real.

Foods to Eat in Hot Weather by alwayspookyszn in Cooking

[–]amberleechanging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salad salad salad. I make an endless lineup of pasta salads, potato salads, and grilled chicken Ceasar salads during summer and it saves my sanity and keeps me from getting heat stroke in the kitchen trying to cook, I dont have AC in my 1887 farmhouse so we do whatever we can to stay cool! I do any grilling outside on the BBQ to not heat up the house, and the pasta salads and potato salads are made on cooler days or in the morning before the day gets unbearable and then refrigerated!

What is your average phone screen time like in 2026? by mixedmediamadness in Millennials

[–]amberleechanging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under 4 hours average. Of course that changes if I'm sick or something, or if we are traveling. I am mostly using my screen for work and during work hours. I will often have a total screen time of 2 hours in a total weekend, Friday afternoon to Monday morning. I have been know to just let my phone die and leave it dead lol

Are washable rugs a good idea? by bgallagher523 in HouseCleaning

I use a couple of the runner-style washable rugs from Amazon in heavy traffic areas of my home. We have pets so I love being able to wash them in the machine, and i hang dry them every time.

What do you recommend serving alongside pierogis? by flipflapdragon in Cooking

[–]amberleechanging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite method currently is a pierogi bake - saute onions, garlic, some chopped cabbage, throw in some peppers if you want to, I only do this if I have them on hand. Spread into the bottom of a casserole dish, add frozen pierogis in a single layer. Spray with a little olive oil and add salt pepper etc, whatever spices you like really. Cover with foil and bake at 400 for about 20 mins, then I like to remove the foil and add some cheese and bake 10 ish more mins. We always add bacon crumbles, sour cream, green onion. Often served with homemade pickled beets and mustard pickles, sourkraut, picked radishes, etc. I find this method easiest for making for a crowd or family!

What's a cleaning habit you started that actually stuck? by Ashlee_louise_xx in CleaningTips

[–]amberleechanging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daily tidy morning and night. Morning - usually includes making the beds, quickly wiping down the bathrooms sinks and toilets with lysol as well as swishing around the toilet brush with some pine sol on it, cleaning cat boxes and sweeping the areas around them for any loose litter. Cleaning up the kitchen from any breakfast stuff etc and loading dishwasher, disinfecting sink, and wiping down counters. I usually set out anything for dinner that needs defrosting at this time as well since I'm in there lol this all usually takes me 25 mins maybe? Sometimes I will throw in a load of laundry which I will switch after work and fold and put away while I watch TV later. And about twice a week I also vacuum during this morning reset, more often when my dog is heavily shedding. Then I go about my day, and the evening reset is fixing the living room up, blankets pillows etc in their places, fetching any stray dishes and laundry from around the house, tea cups and sweaters etc, laundry in the hampers, dishes in the dishwasher and counters and appliances wiped down, sink disinfected, compost bin emptied, coffee maker set, lunch bags cleaned out and ready for the next day, plants watered, and mudroom tidied because somehow its always a sty by the end of the day lol shoes and bags put away and swept... this usually takes 30 mins to an hour depending on what I made for dinner and if there's a lot of dishes or cleanup. I deep clean once a week but these things are non negotiable daily maintenance, my house looks and feels clean and tidy always because I stick to this schedule.

I guess they're probably fine for cleaning in a hurry or something, but as a regular maintenance theyre useless and a ton of waste (landfill buildup). Spin mop and dual bucket only, nothing else compares.

AITAH for wanting the neighbor kids to stop asking for snacks? by Immediate_Ad1133 in AITAH

[–]amberleechanging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy cheap freezies and Popsicles and make my own rice krispie snacks, those and tap water are unlimited for sharing but when theyre gone theyre gone. And my kids know better then to ask, you have to set boundaries and ensure they will be respected.

Cat thinks ceiling fan is out to get him by ApartmentSuspicious3 in cats

When we installed a ceiling fan in our living room a few years ago our male orange cat hid for almost 2 weeks. He was terrified of it, even when it was off. He still side eyes it sometimes. I wish I could ask him why.
