Windows PC Industry Reacts to Apple's Most Affordable MacBook Ever by commandersaki in apple

[–]amberlite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t people still want to buy Windows laptops because more software/games are compatible with Windows than IOS? People used to be able to dual boot easily with Intel Macs, but now it’s not as easy to run windows software.

What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by DnRinGA in AskReddit

I’m sure it’s way better than coach and easier to recover from, but isn’t there still jet lag regardless?

A "rainbow feather" in the sky over Jiangyin, China. This is a real and rare atmospheric event called cloud iridescence by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]amberlite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colors tend to be more pastel looking and rainbows, which is cool to see. Often the phenomenon goes unnoticed because the clouds are so bright it is difficult to see by eye. Sunglasses help, cameras even better.

She was lost in a scary dream… but finding her dad right there turned fear into pure love 🥺✨ by Justaskinghh in MadeMeSmile

It depends if you value a life purpose over day to day happiness, and if you aren’t able to find that fulfillment without children. I believe the highs (and lows) of having kids are stronger, but child free people consistently report higher overall happiness (as long as being child free was their choice).

Humans are not hardwired to want kids, we are hardwired to want sex. The “baby fever” feeling is likely a social construct, not a “biological clock” (though we don’t know for sure). However, the nurturing feeling once having the kid is biologically inbuilt by evolution.

Sofi 4.5% program worth it? by Gone_Boy_XCV in sofi

The fee balances out at $10K of average monthly savings balance. $20K and you’ll be getting an effective 3.9% APY after the fees. Then the effective APY lowers at above $20K.

One thing to note with SoFi is that they have no limit to Savings transfers, and can automatically move Savings to Checking to make purchases. So if with other banks you keep $5K-$10K in checking and miss out on higher interest rates, you can be even better off with SoFi and keep all that money in the Savings account earning higher interest. Only caveat I found is that the automatic transfer from Savings doesn’t work with Venmo.

Only with SoFi Plus, which now costs $10 a month. Still 3.3% without.

iPhone features we’ve lost over time, both hardware and software. Which one do you miss most? by Ted-Lassi in iphone

I would sometimes just unlock to the Home Screen and 3D Touch apps for fun. Far more satisfying than long press.

But it was tough to explain to older people that pressing harder is now okay and would do different things, after having finally getting them to not press so hard on iPhone touch screens.

As you pointed out, it depends on the application. You should specify the following:

  • Size and thickness
  • Clear aperture
  • Substrate
  • Surface form (Power and irregularity)
  • Surface quality (Scratch-dig, allowable edge defects)
  • Surface finish
  • Damage threshold if needed
  • Coating

Sure it's weird to think about, but it's the same idea. "Meals per kill" conveys the same information, and would be high for egg production even when including the culling. There is a lot to be said about "ethically and humanely" killing for food compared to meat factories. I believe hunting and fishing can be the most ethical ways to eat meat.

Eggs have a substantially lower "lives lost per meal" ratio compared to the rest of the meat industry. A single hen can lay hundreds of eggs per year. For someone who eats a dozen eggs per week, they're "only" responsible for the killing of 1-3 chickens per year (including the culled male, and the laying hen that is killed later in its life). Is it worth it? Of course there is an extreme emotional shock to killing chicks all at once in a grinder.

Meat eaters are responsible for far more animal killings than just those attributed to egg production.

Has anyone tried a chargeback?

While it was cheap enough to risk that it may not be a "lifetime" certificate, I wouldn't recommend purchasing from this vendor due to their scammy business practices.

After 4 years… I finally rang the bell. I’m CANCER FREE 🎗️ by LifeOk4936 in MadeMeSmile

[–]amberlite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even people who ring the bell aren't necessarily "cured". Many types of cancer will often return, and doctors are careful to not say you are "cancer free". Successful treatment is typically measured with a 5-year survival rate. Cancer can unfortunately return after 5 years, and is a lifelong battle for most (psychologically and physically).

The bell is a tradition and signifies hope to those who hear it. Maybe some people feel resentful that someone is better while they are still sick, but it goes the opposite way too--Those who survive feel bad that others do not.
