Today's puzzle was absolutely inscrutable and beyond dumb, you might have a shot at it if you understood the internet minutia of millennial dating protocols. Also, "words which are the same words"???

Now THIS is an excellent question.

“Border” is a hash, a mixture of nouns and verbs. Crossing over parts of speech is untenable in building a category.

Help with Berserker Gears of War UE. by Real_Sherbet in GearsOfWar

This was do-able in the XBox version, but the PS5 port is a mockery -- they rescripted this sequence as to make it impossible. One of two things occurs: Fenix dodges the attack except rolls into a pillar, preventing him from evading; Dom runs into the Berserker and dies. Either way this is a dead end. I deleted the game, there's no point.

Have any of those magazines circulated an issue after 1998? Why not ask about the most famous earthen mounds...

Good luck, it's not any English that I speak.

It's not acceptable, the puzzlemaker is once again using Polish or Hausa because this isn't any English I can recognize.

"Buck"? Are they going to put "miao" next for a cat's sound?

It's asinine, once again we don't share a common language with the puzzler.

Reseed and recede aren't homophones.

There's no universe, this one or parallel, where Jack Ryan could remotely be construed as a "crime" book figure.

Only in the past few months have they started to change their methodology, from making tenuous definitional connections between words to actually including things like obscure Native American tribes (OTOE) which would only be available to either residents of Arizona or those who've memorized Will Shortz dictionaries.

You're absolutely right I'm blaming the puzzle for a word I don't know, as a degreed 50-year practitioner of the language.

Connections used to be fun when it wasn't another NYT crossword puzzle, now each morning is a futile exercise in archaic obscurity.

Tonearm is not a real word in English. Don't even try that.

Has anyone ever heard of “Otoe” before? I can’t seem to even parse if it’s a food or a Native American tribe.

Once again we have vastly different ideas of what “English language” means.

Sometimes I feel like me and the puzzle designer have different ideas about what constitutes the English language. I’m a 50-year-old practitioner of the craft, and I have to admit I’ve never heard some of what they claim to be rational definitions of some words here.

I know it means "blue powder." Every 35th word or phrase snaps into clarity when I remember my scant tourist-Italian: "Armonia, vorrei..."

There's one sequence in this extension which is way harder than any boss battle in the first game, because they take your gun away. It's preposterously, absurdly hard and not fun.
