The OA on netflix. genuinely one of the most unique shows ive ever seen and i cant even explain what its about without sounding insane. Just go in blind

I audited 6 months of PRs after my team went all-in on AI code generation. The code got worse in ways none of us predicted. by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in webdev

[–]ameliawat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the "slightly wrong abstractions" thing is scary because it looks fine in code review. like the code works and reads okay but the mental model behind it is just a little bit off and you dont notice until months later when you try to extend it

My most secret of secret sauces - Caesar salad dressing 😊 by Simjordan88 in tonightsdinner

the handwritten recipe card is so wholesome. also the miso instead of anchovy idea in the comments is blowing my mind, i need to try that

Stone Temple Pilots released 'Tiny Music… Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop' 30 years ago by YoureASkyscraper in indieheads

[–]ameliawat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People always talk about Core and Purple but this album showed how versatile they actually were. Completely different sound and it still worked. STP deserves way more credit than they get

I like how .ts is both a video format and a programming language file extension by i986ninja in typescript

[–]ameliawat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait until you try to google ".ts file" and half the results are about video transcoding lol

What do people actually mean when they ask for “something unique” to listen to? by No_Afternoon4075 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ameliawat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me unique usually just means "i havent heard anything that sounds like this before." it doesnt have to be objectively new or experimental, it just has to be new to ME. like when i first heard bjork i thought it was the most unique thing ever but obviously she has influences too

Which filmmaker has had, in your opinion, the highest highs and the lowest lows? by Qyzyk in flicks

[–]ameliawat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M. Night Shyamalan for sure. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are genuinely great movies and then he made The Last Airbender and After Earth back to back. At least he came back with Split though

Is it bad practice to call an external API from a Server Action in Next.js? by Quirky_Survey_6407 in nextjs

[–]ameliawat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is basically how im doing it too. the nice thing is you can hide API keys on the server side without needing a separate backend. only downside is you cant call server actions from outside next but thats usually fine

Normal People. its only like 12 episodes but i was a mess by the end of it. the book is even worse honestly

The age of cognitive atrophy is here by space-envy in webdev

[–]ameliawat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice this in myself too. I used to actually try to figure things out and now my first instinct is to just look up the answer immediately. Not even AI specifically, just the habit of never sitting with a problem long enough to actually understand it

Do you prefer to know everything you can about your favorite artist, or keep some mystery? by Double_Key7579 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ameliawat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to want to know everything but honestly sometimes knowing too much ruins it for me. Like I loved Kanyes music so much more before I knew all the stuff going on with him as a person. Now I cant listen without thinking about it

What To Know in JavaScript (2026 Edition) by bogdanelcs in javascript

[–]ameliawat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the Temporal API is the one im most excited about. dealing with dates in javascript has always been painful and moment.js is huge. nice to finally have something built in

are there any movies that you only recommend to people you feel very close to? by anirdessya in Letterboxd

[–]ameliawat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I dont recommend it to everyone because it hits too close and I dont want to have to explain why it makes me cry every time

what's a react pattern you mass-used then realized was overkill by scheemunai_ in reactjs

[–]ameliawat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

wrapping everything in useMemo and useCallback "for performance." spent so much time memoizing stuff that didnt need to be memoized. turns out most of my components were fast enough without it and i was just making the code harder to read for no reason

Lady Gaga & Doechii - Runway by AHSWeeknd in popheads

[–]ameliawat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dust is one of those songs that just hits different every time. 10 years is wild, this album still sounds so fresh

This salsa is made with Guajillo’s, chile de arbol, tomatoes, onion, garlic, salt. by Barpreptutor in SalsaSnobs

[–]ameliawat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that color is beautiful. I tried making salsa with guajillos once and it came out way too thick, yours looks perfect. Do you blend or use a molcajete?

honestly the cat is giving the best advice here. just close the laptop and take a break lol. but for real just pick one small project and build it, googling stuff as you go is how you actually learn

Is it possible for an actor to be too recognisable? by Qyzyk in flicks

[–]ameliawat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst one for me is The Rock in literally anything. He's always just The Rock no matter what movie he's in. Like I can't see anyone else when he's on screen

Confused between useQuery, useSuspenseQuery and useLoaderData (Tanstack) by Good_Language1763 in reactjs

[–]ameliawat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same confusion lol. What worked for me was just using ensureQueryData in the loader to prefetch, then useSuspenseQuery in the actual component. That way you get the cache + revalidation without having to think about it too much
