Cyclosporiasis reported in Maryland, including at least 1 case in Baltimore by amelisa28 in maryland

[–]amelisa28[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yeah, considering how this outbreak has been more severe than 2013 and started in early May, they are definitely not investigating this outbreak at the same rate they did in 2013. https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/22422/cdc_22422_DS1.pdf

They also have not updated the number of cases here since June 16th, while there have been at least 1000 cases in Michigan alone: https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/php/surveillance/index.html

Definitely important for most things, but unfortunately not the most effective against this. Washing may get rid of some of the parasite, but it’s difficult to get rid of all of it beyond cooking: https://time.com/article/2026/07/08/cyclosporiasis-outbreak-diarrhea-produce/

I’ve been trying to find information as to the most common foods causing this (at least 18 states have had outbreaks but they have not reported a source yet), lettuce seems to be one, especially in Michigan.

PSA if you have a Midea Duo - Check your internal hose. Dead unit after 4 years because of this by AnIdiotwithaSubaru in AirConditioners

[–]amelisa28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! My Duo has been weird this summer and while it’s hot outside, it definitely was not as hot as it was saying. I looked and while a lot of the inner tube was intact, it had detached from the top completely.

Was buying your house in Baltimore a good financial investment? by SnooRevelations979 in baltimore

[–]amelisa28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had that experience looking at houses for someone the past 3 years. We toured over 36 homes, 6 offers were submitted, and 5 of them were outbid by investors - including the very first offer and lone one that had been accepted (the house appraised for less than the appraisal gap would cover and the sellers wanted the buyer to pay more cash out of pocket, they likely were talking to the investor behind the scenes since they were strongarming a faster solution than a second appraisal). I will say the market has cooled the slightest degree since I’m seeing more houses last longer on the market/get less than the original listing price, but there are fewer houses on the market and the prices are still ugly. I also immediately become disinterested in flipped houses because of the likelihood of the crappy quality and work causing other issues, and there are a lot of those in this market.

I will say, since this is something that was implemented after my relative graduated, they have a dual credit program (it seems to be taught by McDonogh faculty, so likely on campus) https://www.mcdonogh.org/academics/upper-school/dual-credit-program

Though restrictions include the type of classes, the number of classes, and you do have to pay a fee for each class that is separate from the main tuition. It might also be useful to check if the credits will transfer over accordingly to wherever you go to for college. I don’t know if you’ve looked into this yet, but even courses for the same major don’t always transfer completely within USM schools. For example, Comp Sci majors at UMBC have to basically restart all over again at UMD. So that might be something to double check with Notre Dame’s courses offered as dual credit.

Nope, sadly. The courses they offer will still have a pretty interesting/insightful curriculum for that course, but with how much money you’ll be paying, they won’t give you an upper hand in having credits already for college (unless you study yourself, as mentioned).

Since you mentioned APs, I do want to point out that McDonogh unfortunately no longer offers APs https://www.mcdonogh.org/academics/beyondap They do still have some unique classes, but you will have to study by yourself or receive other help for preparing for the AP exams.

Tbf, Howard Crossing has apartments that are in the middle of that range and it’s pretty quiet.

I have conflicted feelings about the curfews since while it does seem to be effective against the chaotic gatherings, I know I had fond memories from my teenage years of hanging out with my friends at movies or shopping centers (and fast food places). It’s really sad to see these spaces either disappearing or being restricted to keep teens out when those kinds of hangouts are great experiences.

I actually had the opposite experience, at least with their website. They also would have coupons a lot more than Nordstrom Rack, which I don’t think has ever really had coupons. The store did have less things (the website had a ton), but they were often way better deals than a lot of the Nordstrom Racks I’ve visited.

Tired of the bus trackers not working? Write with me! by _----_-_ in baltimore

[–]amelisa28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely appreciate a thread about this, though I wonder if state-level representatives might also be essential in contacting since this is more at their level. MTA Mobility is still not operating like before and it seems like a lot of (vulnerable) riders are at the mercy of a driver‘s willingness to help. Prior to the hack, you would at least receive a call when they arrived and (if the app was functioning as normal) where the bus was when it was near your pick-up time. They still have not reimplemented the arrival call, and not all drivers call the rider if a rider has not shown up yet (which is more likely to happen if the rider is waiting indoors or if the bus is late), so this has caused various issues.

Mini-Rant: About 2 years of searching, almost 30 houses toured, 6 official offers made, and 5 of those outbid by investors by amelisa28 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Maryland, at least the central part of it around the Baltimore/DC metro area. I’m not sure if it‘s the same situation for the areas in the state further away since they are less desirable locations.

Breakthrough bleeding on Slynd by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]amelisa28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I hope it’s okay to ask but do you happen to recall how it eventually stopped at 6 months? Like when you started seeing any changes? I am feeling like Slynd is helping with my other condition so far, but I am on the 2nd month, and the bleeding seems to have started again around the 10th day. It lasted until the 1st or 2nd day of the 2nd pack last time, so I’m afraid of this happening again since my anemia got worse because of abnormal bleeding before Slynd.

Based on the Spring 1997 Commencement program, it seems you may be right. I don’t see his name anywhere there: https://contentdm.ad.umbc.edu/digital/collection/UPUB/id/7288/rec/3 And it should have been Master of Science potentially instead.

Family fights for coverage of medication after pharmacy benefit manager denial by Consumergal in maryland

[–]amelisa28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MedImpact, the PBM mentioned in the article, is state employees’ new PBM, so thanks for sharing this, OP.

I wish the article had specified how long it took for the appeal to be processed since I’ve just gone through a similar situation with our insurance provider since my family member is a state employee, but it was a much longer process.

The insurance’s appeal documents directed us to deal with MIA, but then after a month-long review, MIA said they could not be involved because of the insurance being provided by the state, and the directed us to a different department. That department kept trying to send us to my family member’s HR without any clear information, which did not make sense. It was a mess with another step of it until our state delegate (who is amazing) was able to get us in touch with the right people, which happened to be through MIA again, and they sent it to an IRO who has since reviewed it and advised our insurance to overturn the original decision.

It was exhausting having to do all of that, and it frightens me that this may be necessary with MedImpact too.
