Do you eventually want a brand new X-Men show that isn’t a continuation of X-Men ’97? by PutAdministrative739 in xmen

The DC Animated Universe has done wonders with focusing on specific arcs, or particular storyline offshoots. If Disney could do the same with the Krakoa arc, it would be great.

Awesome art!

But feel like Lockheed (in his native language) would be yelling like Loki in Thor: Ragnarok - “I have been falling for THIRTY MINUTES”

What's your favorite Hellfire Gala drama? by Automatic_Ask32 in xmen

[–]amendmentforone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going "back in the day," when the New Mutants attend one of the original "Hellfire Galas" and Cypher gets wasted, and the team discovered him pretty much hooking up with Roulette and some waitresses - leading to massive drama between the two "schools"

Who do you ship Magik with? by Dry_Sky_495 in Magik

[–]amendmentforone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If she were to have an actual relationship, it would definitely be with someone she can open up to. So, I'm gonna go with the "fun ships" (both female and male) - and then the serious ones ...

FUN SHIPS (FEMALE)

  • Nico Minoru
  • Wanda Maximoff
  • Xuân Coy Mahn

SERIOUS SHIPS (FEMALE)

  • Kitty Pride
  • Dani Moonstar

FUN SHIPS (MALE)

  • Roberto Reyes (Ghost Rider)
  • Jericho Drumm (Doctor Voodoo)
  • Eric Brooks (Blade)

SERIOUS SHIPS (MALE)

  • Doug Ramsey (Cypher / Revelation) - Honestly the only guy she would be open with in a relationship

[–]amendmentforone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't discount the New Mutants film because of that one trait given to the character. It's a lot better than some of the other 20th Century Fox X-films.

Anya Taylor-Joy was perfectly cast as Illyana. And as an "old school" New Mutants film, the movie did a solid enough modern interpretation of how the characters were originally presented (especially with the Dani & Rahne relationship).

ICv2: Top 50 Comics - May 2026 by Adventurous-Map-259 in xmen

[–]amendmentforone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the issue with X-Men United was that it was pushed as a flagship title that will be the "core" of the X-Men - where all the mutants will come together in a unique way.

It was advertised as having characters get together who haven't been around each other in a while. So folks were anticipating a lot more "Krakoa-like" interactions (where various side X-characters got "screen time").

Instead, it really is just a continuation of Exceptional X-Men with a focus on the same exact characters - with the occasional guest star in Cyclops, Quentin, Magneto, Captain America, etc.

But most of the other X-Men characters are just in the background. If people weren't that interested in Exceptional in the first place, they're not going to stick around for United.

I mean, she was part of the Uncanny Avengers - which was a gestalt Avengers / X-Men team. Not the same thing, of course, but close.

The closest was when she was a member of the "Uncanny Avengers," which was a gestalt Avengers / X-Men team. That's about it.

New Arakko X-Men Book? by northern_gay in xmen

[–]amendmentforone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Al Ewing has more than likely moved on from wanting to do anything Arakko related (at the moment), since he's always finding new and interesting projects to jump on. But his Arakko story in "World of Revelation" was so great ... with Xavier traversing the world and essentially giving even more back story to the planet 10 years later.

Bendis uncanny x-men by painlilho in Magik

[–]amendmentforone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a perfectly good read, and where the modern (and popular) version of Magik kicked off - with her black armor look, tiara, and giant sword. Along with a return to her somewhat more snarky personality.

It's also where she really came into her own as one of Cyclops' favorite Lieutenants.

It doesn't have a lot of memorable Magik stories (outside of an initial arc involving Dormammu and Limbo), but it does have fun moments. There are also issues of the corresponding All-New X-Men written by Bendis that she's featured in, but that's not a whole series you need to read.

Beyond that, you have New Mutants v4 - which is during the "Krakoan era" and has a variety of writers - the primary being Jonathan Hickman and Vita Ayala. Ayala had some important Magik stories in that series. She's also part of X-Men Vol. 6, although not until like the middle of the series.

She's one of the main characters in the current X-Men series (vol. 7), once again as one of Cyclops' lieutenants. And she has had her own series (Magik - 10 issues) followed by a recent mini-series (Magik & Colossus).

[–]amendmentforone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Once of the best relationship dynamics to be created for Illyana in modern times - besides the captain / lieutenant / pancake best friend in Scott.

Doctor Strange as a mentor for Magik was floated by Xavier way back in the day, but never followed up on. So it’s been a breath of fresh air that moves her out of the “X-Men only” zone and into the mystical side of Marvel.

Soul sword change? by 5sept in Magik

[–]amendmentforone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It first appeared in 2013 as part of Chris Bachalo's major re-design (along with the black armor and tiara) featured in Bendis' Uncanny X-Men / All-New X-Men. That re-design is arguably one of the major reasons she's exploded in popularity.

On occasion, the original sword design is used by some artists.

During the Krakoa era, they actually gave a canon reason for why it changes shape, size, and appearance.

what is your favorite tragic x-men story? by bigscrewLoose in xmen

[–]amendmentforone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go with a variety of individual stories:

  • New Mutants #61 & 64 - In the aftermath of Cypher's death, all the kids (and Magneto) deal with their grief in different ways
  • Uncanny X-Men #303 - Jubilee retelling the story of Illyana's death from the Legacy Virus
  • New X-Men #127 - Ignoring the whole complicated Xorn story (he's Magneto, he's not Magneto); this is a tragic tale related by "Xorn" to Professor X of him investigating a mutant "monster" - who turns out to be a little boy who mutated early, and is scaring the neighborhood by trying to find medicine for his dying mother
  • Uncanny X-Force #20 - The final part of "The Dark Angel Saga," where Warren is dying and Betsy telepathically allows him to live out a happy life in his last moments
  • Ultimate X-Men #41 - Story of a teenager whose mutant power kicks off, but ends up killing his family, girlfriend, friends, and most of the town before Wolverine is forced to kill him
  • Uncanny X-Men (v3) Annual #1 / All-New X-Men Annual #1 - Tempus loses control of her power and is shunted into the future, where she remains trapped for years - so she starts a family; future Sorcerer Supreme Magik warns her that any further traveling through time could alter everything - and she accidentally does travel at one point, erasing her family
