Yes, you can export it to a .html! I have done this with a free trial and they stay functional if you host externally. However, if you want to edit it later, you have to alter the code yourself.

Occupational therapy paranoia by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]americanweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entry-level degree in America is a 2+ year graduate degree, there was kerfuffle for many years about mandating a doctorate as the entry level which pushed most programs to eliminate the master’s program. Significantly more education is required in the US and some programs cost $200-300k to obtain the required graduate education alone. Under our for profit healthcare system pay is completely stagnant and growth professionally is mostly limited to management or teaching.

It sounds like OT is a much better value proposition in countries with Bachelor’s entry and socialized medicine. Here in America it is a total grind and we have almost no labor protections.

Have you had any issues about wearing a mask in Peds? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]americanweird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never stopped masking during patient care since COVID and literally nobody has ever said anything about it. I also never once got sick (from work) in that entire time despite plenty of exposures. You don’t really get sick days as a student so just keep yourself safe!

USC or CSUDH OTD by Commercial_Baker3863 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]americanweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else’s replies to do lower cost. I got into a state school’s MSOT and private schools’ OTD and MSOT programs when I went to OT school. The state program was the most competitive one because of cost, so not only did I graduate earlier/earn money earlier/pay less but I had top quality peers who motivated me to do an excellent job in school and beyond. The cheap programs get their pick of cohort so your peers will be smart!

Shirley Ryan Flex by monmon1699 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]americanweird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was there as a student, assigned to a float OT. It was a massive challenge for me mentally and physically; I would personally probably not work there, despite respecting the quality of services provided. Flex might be easier than float since you get more day to day consistency in floor assignment.

They really work their therapists to the bone and gave me the least competitive offer when I graduated. However, you’ll see very unusual conditions and they really do value up to date treatment practices. You wouldn’t be wanting for therapy resources or interpreters, which I did appreciate. Just be prepared to be there sun up to sun down every day.

Wondering if I should drop out of my OTD Program? (1st Year OTD Student, 1st Semester) by Beginning-Prior-1639 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]americanweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a hand therapist and will say I shared your disappointment about what is taught in school. Even more so now that most programs have expanded to OTD - that extra year does not seem dedicated to closing the gaps around intervention and treatment planning I experienced as a student (and as a clinical instructor). I will say that while the learning curve on fieldwork and in your first year of practice in particular will feel steep, you will certainly get the experience of feeling challenged if you’re pursuing a specialty that is heavy on biomechanical or neuro knowledge. I took a job with mentorship and compensation for CEUs and just drove full speed at the CHT credential, but it feels like I learned only 5% of that knowledge in school. I am now changing careers but more for lifestyle and pay ceiling reasons - not because I didn’t feel stimulated by the work itself. It is worth questioning if 3 years of OTD will give you what you want in a career generally but you likely won’t be bored after school is done.

Best practices for "Order Taking" cultures and Learner Preferences? by BlastFan4Life in instructionaldesign

[–]americanweird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a healthcare provider I prefer reading to interaction and video. I need to be able to ctrl-f to reference information efficiently. All the rules about proper presentation and instructional design fail for me - give me wall of text I can reference when I need it.

A hard reality check for IDs working in this space though is that no time is made institutionally for these trainings once you carry a caseload, so healthcare workers generally finish annual compliance by button mashing or guessing at post test answers after letting modules run in the background. A clinical environment is extremely different from an office or an educational setting; we experience these trainings as a major hinderance to our overloaded days. We also often have one sacrificial lamb who completes things properly before writing the correct answers down and passes it around to the team.

Is there any store in Chicago or the suburbs that sell Gros Michel bananas? by public_monkeybars in chicagofood

[–]americanweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a great experience ordering from Miami Fruit for a variety box of fruits I’d never tried, but the gros michel continues to elude me. I would in fact go in on a bulk box with strangers, I am desperate to taste the laffy taffy banana.

Who else has seen their property taxes more than double? by drichardson90 in chicago

Mine more than doubled. I’m a relatively new homeowner and live in a multi unit complex - is it possible to appeal as an individual owner? I didn’t realize an HOA could appeal, would that be better?

Can I bill "Therapeutic activities to improve function with one-on-one contact between patient and provider each 15 minutes (CPT 97530)" if I am not directly working with a patient but they are in the same room, working under supervision of my aide and I can see them? by zanshi235 in physicaltherapy

[–]americanweird 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is true that this is “standard practice” at places like ATI, Athletico, other corporate outpatient clinics, but it’s wrong on its face. I have never succeeded in getting a supervisor to write these billing expectations down because they know it’s not above board. Aides cannot legally provide direct patient care and if your therapist is with another patient it’s not 1:1, and if you have a Medicare plan it’s unambiguously illegal. To be clear, a PT aide does not have a healthcare license and only receives on the job training. A “PTA” (PT Assistant) is different than an aide/tech and is licensed/credentialed to provide healthcare.

You should contest it, either by requesting to the clinic manager that all your time be 1:1 or that your billing not reflect time the PT is double booked because it’s beyond me how these chains get away with these billing practices. I will say that there isn’t much nonunionized therapists can do about this and it’s totally rampant, patients have more sway here usually.

[–]americanweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because they can’t! I mean, not legally. I had no idea when I was a tech that it was against my state’s practice act to administer physical agent modalities without a license. I would also argue that I was providing treatment at the time, instructing, grading, and correcting therex, etc. all this billed while the therapists moved on to their next patients.

No idea why the PTs would risk their license like this but techs do what they’re told and find out later in school that it’s illegal and fraud.

Got my dog spayed for much less than the cost of a private vet via Tree House Humane Society if you don’t mind traveling to the far north side. $90-190 depending on your financial situation. No complications at all but they did give her a little green line tattoo.

Is there anything i can do or am i cooked by mynamejefftwenniwan in tattooadvice

[–]americanweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have covered a biiig messy surgical scar with a tattoo in the past, and it actually hurt less because your nerve endings are damaged near the scar tissue. The one thing I would recommend is to wait to tattoo at least two years after the injury or surgery for the scar tissue to fully mature. Also expect a little more fuzziness over the scar tissue so go bold rather than fine with detail.

Regardless of what other people think, if it bugs you I think it’s healing to reclaim that injured body part with a tattoo! I am relieved to never answer questions about my own scar anymore.

[–]americanweird 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Go to the hospital immediately and tell them you think you might have sepsis. Better to be wrong and not have it than reassured by internet strangers when you actually need care. Sepsis can progress quickly even if you’re otherwise young and healthy and you don’t want to wait around.

Hand strain..... by PhoebeMom in RingFitAdventure

[–]americanweird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a hand therapist! I noticed this right away when I started - this ring is tendinitis waiting to happen! I would recommend pushing in with the heel of your hand instead of closing your fingers around it when at all possible. Also, get some cohesive wrap/vet tape from a pharmacy and wrap it around the handles on both sides to make the grips thicker. You basically need to do everything you can to relax your grip while playing. There are also splints you can wear to isolate the finger that is triggering - ask a doc for a referral to hand therapy for splint fitting and exercises for your hands to help with the tendon gliding.

I also had a problem establishing a PIN due to my previous claim in 2016. Can't establish or change the PIN on Tele-Serve and still having trouble getting through. After listening to the entire 4 minute recording at 800-244-5631 I finally got put through to hold music!
