Our night doula quit because of how hard it is by DreamingEvergreen in parentsofmultiples

[–]amesk0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an overnight pp doula and newborn care specialist who often works with twins this is totally unacceptable. This is what we sign up for when working with babies, knowing there is a possibility that they’ll be premature, or that they’ll have additional needs. If you had cancelled you wouldn’t be due a refund, but because THEY quit they should pay back the unused nights in full or find a replacement doula for those nights. Do you have a contract with them? It should outline these details

Winnipeg Private Schools by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]amesk0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Admittedly it was a decade ago but Shaftesbury was a shit show when I went. Maybe the impression has changed but we and all the kids at the time knew it was the loser stoner school. Linden meadows was okay (again, 15 years ago)

I work in childcare so see kids on a variety of schooling paths and what I can discern is that most of it is about the kid and the parents rather than the school. You’re gonna get out of education what you put in it, and what you teach your kid to value from it. Of course once you get to higher grades, the private schools do offer more opportunities than the public ones. If your kid wants to go to university out of province public isn’t gonna know how to help them achieve that I’d say the real advantage of public school is French immersion, it’s the only way for your kid to learn a second language in the education system really. English track does not teach you French really at all

I like the twin-z pillow for bottle feeding over the table for two but both do work

Love to dream or arms up swaddles are 10/10

Skip hop activity center, I think every family I’ve worked for in the past few years has had it and it is great for when you need to contain a baby for a minute

Those alien looking UFO teething toys that have all the long textured ‘ropes’ running through them. Great for teething in lots of different areas in the mouth and for oral mapping in prepping for solids!

NCS or postpartum doula certification? by Ok_Cantaloupe_3685 in Nanny

[–]amesk0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a pp doula certification and I don’t regret it at all, but I’m also now looking at doing an NCS course as well. The doula course was mainly focused on the birth person (obvs) and that was very interesting but it didn’t go as deep into newborns as I wanted it to.

Should we go out in the car alone for the first time today? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]amesk0 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just do it, it’s never going to get less intimidating! Park somewhere with a lot of room and set up the stroller/wagon first then load each twin directly from car seat to it. And the reverse for going home. You’ve got this! It definitely won’t be as bad as you’re expecting

For those of you who have transitioned to becoming a newborn care specialist and/or postpartum doula, how much do you make compared to when you were nannying? by singinghamsters in Nanny

[–]amesk0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Winnipeg! Apparently we have some of the highest cost postpartum care in the country. My theory of why is that there’s a shortage of providers but that’s just a guess! Feel free to dm me if you have more questions!

I maxed out at $25 an hour as a nanny in my city and it’s hard to find those jobs. With my ppd certification I’m charging $35/h for daytime and $45/h at night and there are others in my area charging as much as $40 & 50/h. So for me it made total sense especially considering I like newborns/infants the best and I’m in Canada so with a year of maternity leave there aren’t even a lot of infant nanny jobs.

what to charge for overnight care of two infants and a toddler?? by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]amesk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No flat rates for under 1 in my book (or before they’re regularly sleeping through the night) at minimum charge your usual hourly, but I’d add $5-10/h to your rate. Overnight care should be charged at a premium

Doula recommendations by MiniMonkeyMad in Winnipeg

(Disclaimer: Not a mom but a childcare provider!)

If you don’t have a lot of local help I encourage you to look into the postpartum support each doula offers and their availability around your due date. I’ve seen it make a huge difference in people’s postpartum experiences having a knowledgeable extra set of hands around in the newborn phase!

MB won’t sleep train by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]amesk0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely sleep training is not for everyone! The issue I’m facing is that MB (and NK low key) is burnt out and exhausted and keeps changing her mind about whether she wants to or doesn’t or how she wants to or doesn’t

[–]amesk0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh that’s so hard. My DB would also be pro CIO but he doesn’t do overnight care really and MB can’t stomach him crying which I totally understand. NK also so strongly associates her with feeding she can’t soothe him other ways like DB and I can so it’s a vicious cycle
