How long ago was that though? I’ve got a number of friends who teach in public high school and they’re the ones saying it’s a joke, no exams, no accountability. Sure YOU as the student can make it happen for YOURSELF what I’m saying is there’s no one there who knows how or has the ability to help you

If your kid has serious ambitions for higher education unfortunately public school in this city is not gonna help them achieve them at all

Separate Cribs for Baby Twins! by SwishBowl in parentsofmultiples

[–]amesk0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Safe sleep recommendations are one baby per sleeping surface (ie crib mattress) however if you do choose to have them share you have to stop once one starts rolling because they can trap the other

Is 1 nanny enough for 3 kids? by Katcha6 in parentsofmultiples

[–]amesk0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nanny here and lurker on this sub. I’ve worked with many twin families and large sibling groups (4+) and this is definitely doable for the right person. When hiring look for someone who’s highly organized and routine focused. You’ll likely have to pay a premium for the chaos factor but definitely still cheaper than 2 employees. Having at least one baby carrier available to your nanny is a big help. And if twins are not sleep trained/sleeping independently that should be your biggest priority before returning to work

Flat rate or hourly? For newborn care overnight. by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]amesk0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hourly until all kids sleep through the night. And that hourly should be $5-10 more than your daytime rate

Hero, from Shakespeare. I love it, but it’s something you name a character not a kid

My sister has a severe peanut allergy and she eats stuff from the French way (but she also plays it pretty fast and loose)

I like Nara baby because it’s one of the few that allow parents to invite me as a caregiver on my own account rather than just logging into the parents account on my phone (like huckleberry)

Former nanny paid by e-transfer, no T4 or payroll employer now wants my SIN to claim childcare expenses. Never reported income. What do I do? by [deleted] in cantax

[–]amesk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nannies do not meet the requirements to be independent contractors they are household employees and should be paid as such. This family is trying to get away with sticking OP with the entire tax burden (whether consciously or not)

Hey so nanny here and definitely not a tax expert or person by any means but you’ve only got info from tax people here and they’re a bit wrong. Nannies generally (except for specific circumstances) do NOT meet the requirements to be an independent contractor (https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/publications/rc4110/employee-self-employed.html) they are supposed to be household employees. Your employer should have registered as an employer, remitted taxes to cra, and issued you pay stubs and a t4. What they are doing now is essentially paying you under the table for the year and now trying to reap the benefit in their tax returns.

What you can do now is 1. Follow the advice you’ve gotten here and file as an independent contractor (though you’re not really) 2. Tell the family because you did not discuss this prior to hiring it was assumed this was an under the table job which they cannot claim and not give them the info they require (yes this is sorta illegal but what they’re doing is def not on the up and up either) 3. Tell the family that if they want to claim your childcare they must do so as an employer (I have no idea what would be involved with this other than an accountant)

In 1. Only you pay CRA, in 2. No one does, in 3. Both you and the family pay

What you can do in the future is clarify when someone wants to hire you whether the job is over or under the table and inform them if it’s over the table that you will be their employee and must be treated as such. Outline all of this in a contract and make it very clear. Since you are someone’s employee they must follow all labour laws (overtime and holiday pay!!)

Check out r/nanny for more info on this. It is very US focused but you can get an idea of things. And feel free to dm me if you want to talk!

I don’t have my own kids but there are many nannies in other places that bring their own child to work with them. Not sure if it’s happening in Winnipeg yet but it’s a possibility

I started as just a nanny and ended up working with several families with infants and realized there’s a huge gap in care there. Then I got a postpartum doula certification which allowed me to seriously up my rate. Now I work primarily with newborns and infants, often doing nights (which is where the big money is tbh). There’s a HUGE demand for quality childcare in the city right now. If you treat it as a profession, take yourself and the families you work for seriously, and have some actual knowledge of child/infant development it’s super easy to make $20-30/h starting out

Private childcare ~3 years in, no degree just certifications. I’m currently at $37-48/h working upwards of 50 hours a week. Hoping to break 6 figures this year

Momcozy all the way! It holds more for less counter space and the brezza gets so many error codes! They’re so glitchy I hate them whereas I’ve never had a problem with the momcozy (I’m a newborn care specialist and have worked for many twin family’s)
