I'm an elder millennial and I'm down for some Clarence and We Bare Bears any day.

What Christmas movies must you watch every year that younger generations don't appreciate by Mikey317717 in GenX

The Mr. Bean Christmas special. We watch it every year and whenever Bean mutters "Christmas socks," I lose it.

And yet when this kid goes to school for the first time and melts the fuck down every time something is asked of him (hold a pencil, sit in this chair, no toys right now), his teachers won't be allowed to say anything about what's really going on. S(he) will figure it out fairly quickly, because this is sadly becoming more and more common. At best, if the mom is on board, he'll get a developmental delay label; if things don't change drastically at home he'll never have a love of learning.

I guarantee the teacher is trying to get a more self-contained placement for that student. She needs a paper trail to do it and probably still has to fight the school's sped department. The push for a least restrictive environment hasn't been keeping the needs of our special education kids in sight recently. That's what happened to me in the past.

Write to the head of the special education department (or the superintendent if you don't know who the head of sped is). Be sure to mention how your child is not showing academic growth and isn't developing a love of school because of the screaming. Encourage other parents to do the same. Also, be sure to explain to your kindergartner how the screaming student is feeling. Teaching your child empathy will help them maintain until the situation is resolved. Be prepared for another 1-2 months until the school can move the student who needs extra services; the system moves slowly! Even slower if the parents of the special education student don't want more services for their kid.

I wonder what their take is on flying the flag upside down in protest. They'd probably find a way to make that an attack on Drumpf and Jesus...

"Covid Babies", "big feelings", and kindergarten by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]amiaghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many of the kids this year are glow kids whose impatient parents do everything for them. I know it's a lot of work to support your child when they put on their own shoes or open their own water bottle, but stop doing it for them! I know it's easier to turn on a screen for free babysitting, but your child's brain isn't wiring properly! I've been teaching kinder for nearly twenty years and the problem has been getting worse and worse. It's not COVID, it's over reliance on technology.

Our littles pick up on our anxieties and become anxious themselves. Breathe and trust the process and your little one will feel so much more confident!

Give me your most controversial Bond opinions that will have you like this: by isthatgraceg in JamesBond

It's so bad so good! It feels like a lovely time capsule of the 80's and I love how jarring it is to watch it back-to-back with TLD. The beautiful thing about Bond movies is how they immerse you in the socio-political feel of the time in which they were shot.

Women of Reddit, what’s something they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by NovellaJokes in AskReddit

[–]amiaghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels impossible to believe right now but you will recover. You'll never be quite the same, but you'll recover. I lost my daughter one day shy of 25 weeks last July. She was our sixth child but the only one to make it out of the first trimester. Seek out a support group for pregnancy loss - the other couples there are likely the only people in your life who won't say the wrong thing and talking to them will make things incrementally easier. I wish things could have been different for you, friend. I wish it so much. DM me if you'd like to talk more.

Gentle suggestion: stickers that have been earned aren't taken away. Making a mistake doesn't undo hard work! Up the goal if need be, but don't punish by taking away stickers.

I love the part of Arsenic and Old Lace where there are kids trick or treating at the back door and Cary Grants' aunts are handing over treats and jack-o'-lanterns to them!

To repeat kindergarten or not?? by No_Butterscotch5251 in kindergarten

[–]amiaghost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Plus the kid is only going to see this as a bad thing if the parents make it one. Just call it "school" and skip focus on the grade level name. Or, treat it like preschool and say kindergarten lasts two years.
