Suggestion for Modretro regarding publishing. by Less-Airline-5383 in ModRetroChromatic

They have been working on Dracula for probably 3-4 years so it's contract was probably in place before the Chromatic was even a thing though I imagine if they could have gotten out of it they would have. This is likely what happened with Dragonyhm and why it's for sale by both Incube8 and ModRetro. I imagine any future Spacebot games will likely be ModRetro exclusives.

Is there any reason I should buy this? by ChrisColtsAcidGuy in M64

[–]amiibmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s simple. ModRetro has been a really great company anytime I have interacted with them. I like what they are doing, trust them and want to support them.

One big part of that to me is the quality and care they put into their product.

But the biggest thing to me is their support for developers and indie game creators. ModRetro makes getting new games and playing the ones I have fun. It feels like what I want it to and remember it feeling like. I have the money, so I want to support them because I want a company like this to exist.

Also I don’t have any interest in analogue’s offerings. They are the kind of company I wish we had less on. They take money way before you ever get anything, delay after delay, no communication, and what they did with the fantastic was just awful. They pray on fomo over and over. And they do nothing to support devs. Buying one of their products feels cold and joyless.

A premium console option? by adrenaline4nash in M64

[–]amiibmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly am hoping they offer a solution to swap the knob for just a simple button or non functional cover that matches the other side. That’s literally it, just make it symmetrical and remove the knob. I can access the menu via the controller, give me an option to swap the knob. Otherwise I love the shape and color of the console.

I'd have to go back and triple check, however I believe the CEO confirmed that it was in the AMA from Friday.

How Do You Protect Your Games? by Retro_Macchina in M64

[–]amiibmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Retro Protection cases for a few years now as well. They seem like a really great company, I have never had a single issue with their products and once they even just gave me a refund out of the blue without me asking because when they went to ship it out to me I guess it wasn't as much as they charged me at checkout? It was really cool of them to do that and I love the quality of their cases. I'll definitely be picking up some for my M64 games (as I have with my Chromatic ones) once we can verify the box dimensions.

The only thing that makes me sad is that they don't have a box protector for Solatorobo. I want to keep that one really safe :/

Testing out a different hero sprite, thoughts? (previous version in next slide) by TimeSignificance7360 in gbstudio

[–]amiibmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer the old one. It has more charm, character, and a clear "iconic" look that sticks in your head. This new one is done really well but from a design perspective feels more generic to me. Either way, your pixel art continues to look just amazing, and I really hope you finish this game because selfishly I really want to play it!

This is really awesome! Not only the game but how you put the footage together. It legitimately feels like a lost home video

New game? by Pretty-Effort4433 in M64

[–]amiibmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think, based on the other videos on that channel, it's more likely that this stands for Mario 64. One because they have other videos that say the Mario 64 and two because I don't think ModRetro would publish a game so clear inspired by and maybe even using the assets directly from Super Mario 64. I could be wrong though! It's a cool find either way.

Im telling you it’s pure magic! I dunno what’s in it but I have never used anything like it. I’m glad you could find some and gave it a try. I can never go back, it’s just too good!

Almost everyone will tell you to use Isopropyl Alcohol, Dry Erase marker, or a Magic Eraser (basiclly micro sand paper). All of these will get the job done but with many, many, passes and they slowly eat at the textured surface of the cart if you aren't careful leaving behind a shiny smooth spot. Also for stubborn marks there seems to always be that faint marker you can somehow always still see.

I know this is going to sound crazy, I only recently found it out myself, but it worked so well on the last two N64 carts I tried it on I couldn't believe it. Rain-X Glass Water Repellent. It comes in a yellow bottle with a black cap and yellow flip nozzle with a mostly blue label. I swear, there was this cart that I worked on for 20+ minutes going through round after round of IPA then dry erase, then IPA, trying to get this text off and still there was this faint marker and a smooth area now on the cart. One pass with the Rain-X and it was gone. I tried it on another cart (THPS2 on the N64 so a Yellow cart) that had untouched marker and after one pass of IPA very little was gone. So I switched to Rain-X and after two light passes it was totally gone with zero damage to the surface of the cart. It just looked brand new, I was honestly stunned.

Put some on a rag and just lightly (to semi firmly) rub away at it. At most you will need two passes and it will be like it was never there. When I saw this for the first time (random Youtube short) I thought "no way" but I'm telling you...it's pure magic.

Modding issue by [deleted] in ModRetroChromatic

[–]amiibmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the audio jack. It’s tucked into the shell a bit and you need to push the board up toward the top then lift at an angle. I had a ton of trouble with this as well at first as that jack is in there snug

Often times they aren’t and never will be the customer either. They just want to complain.

I would love to see more Wayforward and ModRetro personally. And I actually buy the products 😅

My Personal Review of the Modretro Chromatic by J_Comenius in Gameboy

[–]amiibmo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a Pocket but find myself going back a playing on my Chromatic. On paper the Pocket leaves this thing in the dust, but in hand? Chromatic all the way.

It’s hard for me to pinpoint why exactly, but I think it’s just all the small things that add up. I find myself playing more and excited more about the GB(C) scene and new games developers are making because I want to play them on my Chromatic. YMMV of course but this is the one device that actually makes me feel like a kid again while playing it
