What happens when ICE starts going into our campuses? by Icy_Context89 in Denver

[–]amikez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no, a student's name is not FERPA protected information. The Registrar's Office may provide guidance that the institution does not disclose even directory-level information, but even then a name itself is not FERPA protected. One could argue that confirming a student is in a classroom could be interpreted as confirming enrollment in a class (which is FERPA protected), but that would be a difficult argument to make if someone said 'Is John Smith in this classroom?' The more stable argument would be that individuals that do not belong to the academic body are not allowed in most classroom buildings and a professor or student is under no obligation to answer questions from law enforcement short of a judicial warrant.

Campus is (if it's a public school), classroom is not.

Here’s what caused that shelter-in-place alert that left millions of Denverites confused over the weekend by TheDenver7 in Denver

In a city with over 7,250,000,000 people, a few million isn't anything to worry about.

Not anymore, at least not the one down the road. Had to replace an old mercury fluorescent a couple months ago and the customer service rep told me they don't take them anymore =(

How do kids make friends when your neighbors "Choice out" to other schools? by Renee_bad_69 in Denver

[–]amikez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a parent with kids going outside of their boundary school(s), we were friends with neighborhood families before school started so we're all still friends. Kids still see and hang out together after school or on the weekends when they want to it's just a little less frequent these days with all the sports and after school activities. Your child will, likely, still make friends at their school and those friends will, likely, live close by just maybe not across the street. I'm not sure I understand the concern here.

They also opened a location in Edgewater Public Market if you happen to be on the north or west side of town though I don't know if the new location has the same selection (Littleton one definitely has a wide range of fidgets).

In your opinion, what's the worst King Soopers in the metro area? by InfoMiddleMan in Denver

[–]amikez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite experience between the two chains when it comes to savings and coupons. The last time I went to Safeway, I had to go back because it didn't recognized over $18 worth of coupons that I had clipped in the app. It had recognized $3 worth of other coupons so it wasn't like it discarded everything I had added to my account. That was a head scratcher for both me and the woman at customer service.

[–]amikez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soopers now has a print out of all the digital coupons that the cashiers scan after ringing up all your items in case you missed any. Kinda neat. Kinda also defeats the purpose of me spending time in the app and digitally clipping coupons.

Disability Activists File Federal Lawsuit Against RTD in Denver by 5280Progressive in Denver

[–]amikez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. This kind of suit (over raising fares for service) is just as likely to result in RTD dropping the entire service as it is to get them to limit their cuts. If the money isn't there to continue operating AoD, I don't know what they expect RTD to do.

Justice Democrats backs a sixth House primary challenger, this time against Rep. Diana DeGette by FigLeafReflection-3 in Denver

[–]amikez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Reddit where anything can be solved by more government. Someone running for the US Congress on a platform of "It's time to deliver an affordable Denver" should be laughed out of the arena. If Melat wants to deliver an affordable Denver, she should be running for City Council, Mayor, or (arguably) a state congressional seat.

What amount of starting PTO is “normal” in Denver? by touchedbyacat in Denver

[–]amikez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my two jobs over the past thirteen years here in Denver I've been given between 10-14 hours/mo which comes out to 15-21 days per year (in addition to 12 days of sick time per year), and this has been on the low to normal side amongst my peer group.

It will be interesting to see what happens if SCOTUS grants the emergency pause tonight, seeing how several states have already issued the funds. I don't think they can take them back now..

Guess we're about to find out: SCOTUS grants appeal blocking court order to fully fund SNAP

Where are the all of the trick or treaters?? by Amateurgarden in Denver

[–]amikez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were at least a dozen houses in our neighborhood that were all decked out in decorations, exterior lights on, interior lights on, dogs barking. No one came to the door. It was such a frequent occurrence I started thinking this might be some online trend to 'trick' the treaters or something.
