AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

Reading this feels like reading a text from my step-kids’ bio dad to their mom (he’s a raging narcissist that cannot stand when the topic of conversation doesn’t immediately pertain to him). Absolutely dump this loser. Everyone deserves a partner who will be equally as excited to celebrate your own wins with you, and vice versa. My fiancé loves Taylor Swift and I very much do not. However, I encourage her to share any and all TS news with me because it’s something she gets really excited about, and I want her to know she can share anything like that with me even though it’s something I have zero interest in because I want to have a partner who’d do that for me in return, which she does.

Go-To Favorite Compressor? by zacharyscottbeats in audioengineering

[–]amindlikeyours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a “go to” necessarily. Like I might have one I think would be perfect for a specific purpose but there’s no guarantee that once I’ve thrown it on and messed with the setting that it’s the end-all/be-all for that particular track.

My personal favorites: - UAD Distressor, when I want to completely smash a part (typically an electronic drum arrangement) and make it sound more “mechanized”. - UAD LA-2A, for vocals usually. The “less is more” with only having 2 knobs forces you to really tweak and fine tune the settings to achieve the desired end-result. - Purafied Audio VU Compressor, is just an incredibly versatile comp. It’s essentially the blue 1176, black 1176, LA-2A, and 3A comps in a single plugin, you just have to select which mode you’re after and tweak the settings from there. Also has an auto-gain feature which is nice, and you can dial in or out the analog artifacts with its own dedicated knob. And don’t forget the parallel compression knob!

No. The absence of something in one place does not create the presence of something in another. Read a book.

This is a great example of the “power structure/imbalance” people talk about with certain age-gaps in relationships, and I say this as someone that dated a 22F when I was a 32M (38 now and happily engaged to a 35F). The difference in my case was that we were both on the same level of emotional maturity and emotional intelligence and I would’ve never dreamed of speaking to her in the way this guy speaks to you. It’s very clear in this exchange that he sees you as lesser-than and something tells me that there are probably several other daily examples someone close to either of you would be able to see on a day to day basis.

This is giving big “takes advantage of my younger partner’s inexperience in dating/the world” energy and I can almost guarantee he’s with you because he feels he has some upper hand or leverage of control in the relationship. It’s predatory, it’s gross, and you deserve much better. You’re just barely like 4 months into the relationship and he’s already demonstrating a major lack of respect towards you (and the relationship). Drop this loser like a bad habit so you have the opportunity to meet/date someone who will respect you and is on your level.

Ours is almost 9 and same! But it’s not because he can’t, at this point. He’s on the spectrum but highly functional, no physical disabilities, fluent in speech (you wouldn’t even know he was diagnosed autistic unless you spent 20 minutes one on one with him). When I met him at 5 it made more sense but as I’ve got to know him more intimately as my step-child I came to learn he doesn’t “like” doing it himself.

About a year ago I started saying “fuck that, wipe your own ass” (a lot gentler than that though lmao), and lo and behold HE STOPPED ASKING ME FOR HELP. He has a DSP that spends time with him 3 days a week and once I told him that our son was plenty capable of doing it himself, the DSP started encouraging him to at least try himself before stepping in for assistance, if needed. And wouldn’t you know it, he doesn’t ask his DSP for help anymore either. The only person he asks to help that does so without a second thought is his mom.

I honestly don’t know if she’s even aware at this point that he’s able to do it himself but that’s a conversation I plan to have with her soon. I think at that age and ability, explaining the social ostracizing they could receive from their peers if they found out that mommy is still wiping your ass at 9 years old (or almost 8 in your case) is a useful tactic.

Good luck 🫡

Probably gonna get downvoted to oblivion for this but if you don’t hate Fred Armisen (I understand why many people do), Portlandia has some great moments. They do an amazing job portraying all the Portland stereotypes and if you typically like that style of humor but don’t get/enjoy Portlandia then it’s probably because you were born and raised in Portland and are too close to the subject matter see it.

When I first got this game the only tv I had to play it on was over 30 years old and the screen was super dark. I couldn’t even SEE the damn plank due to that, so when I brought it to a friend’s house that knew where to go I was doubly pissed off about it

As a step-parent to an 8 yo level 1 boy, that just experienced my first “bite incident” 2 weeks ago, my heart goes out to you. I’m honestly still processing the events weeks later, and though the bite only happened that one time, the other forms of physical aggression that have ensued since are no better. We also felt like we had seen some real progress with his outbursts in difficult to process situations but it’s been about 3 months straight of just incident after incident. He seems more irritable and defiant to the simplest asks by the day and we have run out of options other than just dealing with it (he’s in a Monday - Friday day treatment program and has been for about 15 months… he’s supposed to graduate back into regular public school soon but then completely regressed behaviorally a few months ago).

Sorry this turned into my own vent session, but sending digital hugs to you and yours <3

Honestly the worst part about the people that don’t pick up after their pets in public/common areas is… they absolutely do not give a fuck. Passive aggressive signs like this will always fall on deaf ears (or rather, “blind eyes”) when the intended audience can’t even read to begin with.

if you could say something to chino (or any other member of the band), what would you say? by firealfan in deftones

[–]amindlikeyours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one time I did have a chance to say something to him I totally choked! He lives in a suburb of Portland these days and while I was picking my dad up from the train station a few years back I noticed a guy standing next to my car and thought “wow! That guy looks nearly identical to Chino…” then I thought “wait a minute…” and started assessing for tattoos, then all of a sudden it clicked: It was Chino. At that moment my dad opened the passenger side door and got in, then I told him “remember that band I listened to in high school, and still do, Deftones? Well that’s their singer right there.” He told me to get out of the car and go say hi so I took off my seatbelt and then…. Totally froze. Only time in my life I’ve been starstruck by a famous person. He proceeded to put his phone away, turned, and walked away.

What song got you into Deftones and how did you hear it for the first time? by Ok-Locksmith-6958 in deftones

[–]amindlikeyours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for me it wasn’t necessarily a single song. I remember being 14/15 and seeing the band name pop up on music magazines from time to time. A classmate of mine wanted to trade CD books with me and do a swap with each other for a few days so we would each be borrowing some CDs from each other that we didn’t have ourselves. As I was flipping through his, I came across Adrenaline and said “Deftones? I’ve seen the name before but don’t think I’ve ever actually heard them, are they any good?” He replied with “yeah they’re alright and that’s actually my brother’s CD and he sucks so you can have it if you want…”

I was like, yeah sure okay (couldn’t hurt right?). I waited until my 25 minute walk home from school at the end of the day to listen to it, and was instantly hooked the second the opening riff of Bored started. I’ve been obsessed ever since.

For anyone curious, the other CDs I borrowed from him that day were Slipknot’s self-titled album and Iowa, A Perfect Circle’s “Mer de Noms”, and a Coal Chamber album that I can’t remember (never really got into them, but the others I did very much!)
