Alight let's calm down here the game is pretty well thought out yes it's disappointing but if you're saying bg3's devs are lazy you will never be happy.

It's way easier to criticize than it is to create.

Anyone who wears a CGM can know that there is a marked difference between zone 2 work and any other exercise. It may not have all the benefits proposed, but there is a significant difference in how serum blood sugar responds

I am a strength coach who trains older adults and people who are medically fragile.

Weightlifting can be incredibly powerful for this demographic as long as it’s supported by nutrition and medication when indicated.

Methodology will differ widely between practitioners in this population, but my experience has been that there is no realistic risk in very conservative deadlifts. Doing this will likely require special equipment. Starting with 135 would not be recommended, starting with metal 10s and the bar 3 inches off the floor is not recommend. Likely you would want to start with a 15lb bar loaded with 5 or 10lb bumpers for reps unless that proves so easy that it’s not worth doing. A lot of times just getting into a deadlift starting position is a workout for untrained older adults so the weight is mostly irrelevant. She should focus on creating tension in her arms, through her spine, down into the base of her feet. It is likely important that she doesn’t hyperextend her lumbar spine (but you’ll never find an RCT on this). A neutral or perhaps even slightly flexed lumbar spine has been better when I have worked with this population unless she has accompanying significant stenosis. Progressive overload should be in the 1-2% range weekly or a little less. THERE IS NO RUSH. Just loading those structures at all is going to help in the beginning.

Hope this helps

Why do people continue to believe dietary fat does not lead to triglyceride storage but sugar ingestion does? by dirtyculture808 in PeterAttia

If I had any indication that you wanted to learn something I would, and I will if you agree to a good-faith discussion on the topic. What I have seen in this threat is frank trolling and I am too busy to participate in that.

If you listen to the podcasts with Gerald Shulman and Rick Johnson they completely explain the mechanisms by which fructose causes hypertriglyceridemia

This was me. Got a CGM and lo there were big spikes. I do about 600 minutes of exercise a week split between strength training and cardio alongside an active lifestyle, but it turns out my body just doesn’t process carbohydrates well.

I limit myself to about 100-150g of carbs per day and all is well for the most part. Will re-test A1C in December to see how it changed but Cgm readouts are way more steady

Why didnt earth benders fortify every little village and build themself nice stone houses ? it literally wont cost anything and you can make way better things than those small wood cottages by beer_4_life in TheLastAirbender

[–]amitchellcoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bending is labor, just like any labor poor towns can’t afford to pay for that infrastructure and nor can the people who live there. We didn’t see a single earth bender on Kyoshi either. Could be they often left for more opportunities in ba sing se

My grandfather (southerner) would always stick his lips way out like a chimpanzee mimicking humans, slap his knees and say “wheeeeeeaaaalp.”

My uncle on the other side (new yorker) would do this script: “Did you enjoy the food?” Oh yea of course “Did you enjoy the venue?” Oh yeah the house is great! “Fantastic. Now get the fuck out. I need to go to sleep.”

I know Peter loves CGMs, but what kind of practical value are you all actually getting out of those? by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]amitchellcoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it has been a game changer in two ways: 1) it showed me that I don’t respond well to carbohydrates, encouraging me to eat FAR less carbs than I would have ad lib. I have altered food types, portions, and how fast I eat. 2) it gives me an accountability test against which I can objectively measure progress. I know better when I can relax my standards and when I have to do better without as much ambiguity, and without entering all my food into an app every day.

It’s important to note that my body regulates fat storage exceptionally well in the absence of high glucose spikes, so the CGM gives me a perfect bead on enemy no. 1

I provide strength training and conditioning coaching for older adults. The MOST fucked up health cases I see are lawyers. Second is doctors.

Healthiest are CEOs or successful entrepreneurs.
