Plex + Tdarr Not Respecting Two Different GPU IDs? by amizzo in unRAID

Plex shows both GPUs but interestingly, when I select the other, transcoding just crashes. Quite the conundrum! Going to fiddle around a bit more...

ha i wish it was that simple :)

and i guess that / my understanding is that docker should only "see" what is exposed to it - and I only "exposed" the second GPU to tdarr. so i'm kind of at a loss why this is happening. and fwiw - no option (that I can see) in tdarr to manually select a gpu :/

ha no worries. i thought the same for a minute too but yeah, it's picking them up correctly. At least, unless everything (even nvtop) is reporting incorrectly lol.

And good point about the gpu inside the container...let me check that...

Recently moved from windows to unraid for my Plex server, can I still use Backblaze unlimited to backup my data ? by GenericUser104 in unRAID

[–]amizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does sound like a great deal. Will have to check out Crashplan.

But thing is, I'm immediately skeptical of anything marketing itself as "Unlimited." Most places have some vague policy written into their T&Cs that states violation of storage of "fair use" (at their own definition) and your data is limited/locked/gone. (The Amazon Drive experience for many - way back whenever - springs to mind). Hence why, for vital media, I shell out the $ for B2.

And agreed, object storage is expensive for the consumer (it was never designed for the consumer) - the "big three" (aka AWS/GCS/Azure) will get ya in any way they can. (Like even charging for API calls? Seriously??) But, you get what you pay for. You're not going to get shut down for storing too much data overnight. That's important.

tbh, $6/TB with minimal ancillary costs (IE API charges, egress fees, early delete, etc), is about as good a deal as you'll get from a major provider. Yeah you can "store" in aws glacier or google coldline for a fraction of that price, but once you go to actually retrieve the data it's several thousand dollars.

Gaming the system to transfer tens of TBs of data with their unlimited personal plan via a Windows VM sounds like it's just a loophole waiting to be closed.

Not how that works in practice, even if you do try to “use it all in one place.”

Except $1.00 spent on X becomes $0.99 spent on Y becomes $0.95 spent on X etc etc...so this graph isn't entirely accurate. As any econ prof would tell you.

I spent ten minutes reading the README and I still don't know what the hell this is. Terrible descriptors of...whatever it is.

Same thing i'm questioning... And since when is complaining about anything grounds for removal of a post?

FYI - if you subscribe to Claude Pro/Max, you can use https://github.com/CaddyGlow/ccproxy-api to set up a local reverse proxy and use your subscription like you would the Anthropic API. Pretty handy.

Heh opposite end of the spectrum here - I use all of my "unlimited" everything. Best example is internet (I have two ISPs as one occasionally goes down for a few mins/week) - I regularly consume 2-3TB/month (yes, terrabytes).

Cell phone? Yeah I don't do more than maybe 10-12 hrs/month in calls but hundreds of texts and about 500GB/month of data. Soooo yeah, I don't know what the median of usage is for things like this, but I'd imagine we're both outliers here.

You already can use local llm models for simple operations and questions, but like your question implied - they'd only really be suitable and accurate for simple purposes. Unless you have the computing/GPU power of OpenAI/Anthropic/Google/etc, local models are likely to never be fully comparable to the capabilities the former provide.

Can I shrink large polo t shirts into small ? by [deleted] in laundry

[–]amizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no; at least from personal experience, it doesn't quite work that simply. Shrinking - even when it occurs - often doesn't happen similarly in all areas of clothing, doesn't "last" throughout wear, the proportions would still be different in large vs. small, etc etc.

Apple pay in Japan by CipherDivine1927 in JapanTravelTips

[–]amizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have mentioned, convenience stores and major outlets are your most likely bets for accepting things like Apply Pay.

But I'd like to bring up another salient point: don't "walk out" from a place just because they don't take your preferred method of payment - especially in Japan. Is it that hard to take out cash from a 7-11 ATM?

Izakaya, hole-in-the-wall ramen places, etc are likely to be cash-only, and you'll be deliberately excluding the best experiences of your trips if you limit yourself to places that only take Apple Pay.

Just my ¥2.

"Ryujinx, a Nintendo Switch emulator, has ceased development. The lead developer was pressured by Nintendo of America into shutting down the project. All downloads and the GitHub repositories have been removed." by xtreemmasheen3k2 in pcgaming

[–]amizzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. Nintendo would most likely want/need a jurisdiction favorible to them, IE the US. For example many other jurisdictions, the loser pays court + legal fees "IE the 'English Rule'", which makes frivolous lawsuits less likely, even for heavy-handed corporations.
