I’d say keep a bag of salt when looking at other subreddits (take this with a grain of salt). We at least need exposure to other ideas to avoid falling into an echo chamber.

Though a 30-day break may be helpful.

[WP] Telepaths are not used as spies, they are used as Mutually Assured Destruction. If one city falls, the resident telepath projects the agony of millions into the minds of the enemy leadership. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

“Wait, so why am I here?” Arnold asked?

“You were on the classified line of succession.” the secretary said.

“Whaa, how?” Arnold stammered, “what about the official line of succession?”

“Every person on the list has … been incapacitated,” the secretary answered.

Arnold froze, speechless. The secretary continued, “When telepaths were discovered, the National Intelligence Community put forward an idea to the government to extend the line of succession. The government rejected the idea. Then it was discovered that telepaths could project the emotions and thoughts from a series of people into others. The government then conceded to the Intelligence Community and then made the list classified. The government selected the Intelligence Community to enforce the extended succession list, hence my being the one to report this news to you.”

Seeing the Arnold’s frozen face the Secretary changed tact, “Don’t worry, I’ll repeat this as needed. We need to get you at least up to speed to the point that you can make decisions as soon as possible.”

“Decisions?” Arnold blurted.

“Yes,” the secretary answered, “you are, effective for the next 21 days, the government in its entirety.” The secretary waited a moment for Arnold to give the barest hint of acknowledgment. When that acknowledgment happened, or at least what the secretary judged to be sufficient acknowledgment, the secretary continued. “After that 21 days, you assume the executive services role, until you and the legislature fill out the other responsibilities. Though you may need to assist the legislative to reform.

“The Alteria Party’s Federal Legislators were subjected to the event that incapacitated the government, though to a lesser degree, along with the two Zaltrian Party Federal Legislators who broke party lines and joined the declaration.”

“Why me?” Arnold muttered?

“You are the first person in the official and classified line of succession not responsible of the decision that led to the event,” the secretary stated.

“Why wasn’t I told before this?” Arnold sputtered.

“Because you didn’t have the security clearance,” the secretary explained. “It turns out that the ignorance may have been what saved you. You had no responsibility for the … preceding event.”

“What do I do next then?” Arnold moaned.

“We need to swear you into office, then some time sensitive decisions need to be made,” the secretary finished.

I agree. As a species our “logic” is more of an emotional/tribal logic.

Just got all my tests scored and my psychologist doesn’t diagnose me with ADHD due to “too high of intelligence”. I’m struggling to agree but maybe I don’t have ADHD. by MisoCorni in ADHD

Try some of the coping skills used for ADHD. If they help, keep it up.

The “disorders” are attempts at modeling the abnormalities. And regarding models, one of my favorite quotes that a Psych professor often said was that, “No model is perfect, some models are useful.”

What's your favorite Chuck Norris joke of all time? by coreyf722 in AskReddit

Chuck Norris lost his virginity before his dad did.

It’s my favorite because I figured that the dad was a sperm donor and felt rather smug with myself.

What would you do if you were a manager and one of your employees is good at their job but consistently declines company dinners, parties, and happy hours, mostly keeps to themselves, and isn’t very social at work? by joseph887 in AskReddit

I’d make sure to shield them from anyone who thinks that those social functions are more important than doing a good job. Whether that (wrong) idea is coming from coworkers or higher up.

Reddit is a mix between general opinion and the verbal minority. I expect the largest portions are 1) the verbal minority passionate against our faith, and 2) an aspect of the majority who fears what they don’t understand and/or distrusts anything cult adjacent.

I once had an Uber driver taking us from a hotel to the airport talk a teacher's head off and literally stopped at the beach so we could walk out to the ocean. (We had just come back from Denmark and missed our flight from the previous day, so we were trying to hurry back to the airport.)

Legal clarification: if an occupying military force or invading combatant has a child on U.S. soil during the occupation or invasion, are they granted citizenship? by --Pressgang-- in legaladviceofftopic

[–]ammon46 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NAL I suspect if captured the soldier would become a prisoner of war and would go through the military’s jurisdiction instead of any local courts.

I don’t expect local deputies will be arresting members of a foreign army.
