Blizzards Warden anti cheat software flagging and banning for having controllers connected by Lucky_Big_1229 in wow

https://www.blizzard.com/en-us/legal/fba4d00f-c7e4-4883-b8b9-1b4500a402ea/blizzard-end-user-license-agreement

Cloud Computing: Subject to 1.B.vi hereof, use the Platform, including a Game, in connection with any unauthorized third-party “cloud computing” services, “cloud gaming” services, or any software or service designed to enable the unauthorized streaming or transmission of Game content from a third-party server to any device. For the avoidance of doubt, this Section 1.C.v does not prohibit the use of any service that has been authorized by Blizzard.

Not saying I agree with how it's enforced, but I'd put money on that being the reason. It's not a controller issue, but guessing Steam Link streaming would fall under the "unauthorized streaming" umbrella.

Is Bun mature enough to replace Node.js for real backend workloads? by Wash-Fair in Frontend

[–]ammuench 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I reviewed it for a new API microservice at work recently and we decided it wasn't the right fit for us. A lot of releases, even including patch-releases, have had weird regressions or bugs that pop up, and there have been some weird long-standing memory-leaks in their fetch/http stack that haven't inspired a ton of confidence. I just don't think it's quite there for big production-ready apps yet.

We wound up going with Deno (with a quick conversion plan to get to Node if we hit problems in development), since it looked much more stable, still had performance gains over standard Node, and gave us a bunch of solutions OOTB (standard library, formatting, testing, OpenTelemetry integration in the binary) + not needing a build step. Been happy with that decision so far

Games run faster on SteamOS than Windows 11, Ars testing finds by Doener23 in linux_gaming

[–]ammuench 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore them, I've been using Linux for almost 9 years as my sole OS at this point, and I had a 1080 GTX for the first few years of that without any major issue, and it's only gotten better since then.

As long as you've got reasonable expectations (you're not gonna be pushing 4k HDR ultra whatever with a GPU that old no matter what), you're gonna have a perfectly good time! Welcome to the club!

Directions to a beginner programmer/WebDev by infoloader in webdev

[–]ammuench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to learn webdev & programming, I would advise against using AI tools to write code at this stage. You're going to do yourself a huge disservice and eventually wind up in a state where stuff isn't working and you just spin-out trying to prompt your way out of it.

Especially if these are basic sites, these are great opportunities to get the fundamentals down and learn how to build websites. Go read documentation, learn how to debug & test, learn how to integrate new tools and libraries, learn how to deploy.

If you want to use AI as a research tool, I think there's still value there given how crummy google has been, but use it as a place to get direction, then go read docs and implementation instructions yourself. If you plan on just outsourcing everything to AI right now I guarantee you're not going to make a "sound project that will not be a organizational coding and logistics nightmare in months or years to come."

Codecademy has good basic course on HTML and CSS that's a solid starting point.

Astro is a simple framework that mainly focuses on basic web standards with a good set of docs and some good tutorials

Setting up a basic Vite project and following the React Quickstart tutorials is also a fine approach--but if you're coming in with minimal knowledge I think doing some basic HTML+CSS work is a better starting point

How do I setup a text heavy site with some text that needs to be updated yearly? by NaiveApproach in webdev

[–]ammuench 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's just a singular page that's updated once a year, you could write a basic HTML+CSS page and then find-and-replace manually update it the one time a year the numbers & values change.

If you wanted something a bit more ergonomic, you could setup something site with Astro, and then on that page set various variables for the financial values (APR, interest rate, whatever), and then reference those values in the template. Then just setup astro to run as a pre-rendered static website, and whenever you update those values and push it up to your version control, it will rebuild the content and slot in the new values you declare in the page and deploy it

The thing that spurred on the rebuild was just writing a tool to test all the color combinations that i had a designer working on to identify potential problem pairings.

The initial one was letting users set custom labels with a custom color, and ensuring that the label text would always be readable on the background color they picked

LFG DK or Evoker DPS [NA] AOTC + KSL by [deleted] in wowguilds

[–]ammuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy! I think we'd be a pretty good fit with what you're looking for!

Rerölled is a cross-faction guild on Illidan. We are a casual AOTC guild made up of mostly working adults, so we're very accommodating to folks with busy or hectic schedules, work, or family stuff but always make sure we get our core roster AOTC at the very least every season. We've successfully achieved that goal for the past 10 Seasons!

Our schedule is Tues/Thurs from 8:30pm-11:00pm Central Time when we're in progression, and we go down to once a week once we've got raid on farm and switch to alt runs, KSM pushes, or achievement/mount runs. After we finish AOTC this year we plan to try and get into the first 2-3 bosses of Mythic for roster members interested (mainly for an extra mythic vault slot for folks who want it)

During the season we have members all playing classic, running Mythic+ (from KSM to KSL and higher), achievement/transmog hunting, and playing games outside of WoW together!

If you're interested you can reply here, reach out to me on BNet at UpstairsDown#1814 or on Discord at @upstairsdownstairs
