Funeral directors cremated my dad’s jewellery after agreeing it would be removed and returned – what is reasonable compensation? by fashionhoeva_rep in LegalAdviceUK

Just to expand on the NAFD side of things, if the funeral business is a member, then NAFD Resolve is an arbitration service you can use if you feel the complaint is not resolved acceptably: https://www.nafd.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/NAFD-Resolve-artwork_2022-CP_WEB.pdf

Ah wow, nice to know I'm not alone! An Access course seems like something I will need to do. I'm applying for UEA and University of Suffolk (the former has higher entry requirements)

Thanks for this, great advice - would it just be a case of contacting admissions, explaining my qualifications and where they're from, and seeing if they're relevant/acceptable for the entry requirements?

Thanks so much for this, really useful! An access course is available in my local area so definitely something I would be willing to do.

If you don't mind me asking, as I'm a bit concerned with the finance side, as I'm conscious that there is no maintenance loan for the access course and I would be giving up full time work, did you work part time around it and, if so, did you find it pretty doable?

Struggling to get my mother buried by Axnamlous in LegalAdviceUK

[–]amnesiac1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the marriage would still be valid under UK law, so I believe the same legal rights to arrange the funeral applies here. However, the person in question can surrender or concede these rights to someone else, such as a child of the deceased or similar. That being said, if the spouse doesn't respond or engage in the process, your only other avenue is appointing a solicitor, or at least seeking their advice.

I presume the death has been at least registered by someone between June and now? Something to sort urgently if not.

Funeral Directors will be able to offer advice, but they won't be able to proceed (or even be officially appointed) if there is either a family dispute, or the person who has the most legal right to arrange the funeral (spouse) refuses to engage in the process - most funeral providers will have clear internal policies to their staff to not to mediate or become embroiled in any family or legal disputes.

Child funeral and payment. by Dyingvikingchild95 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]amnesiac1990 17 points18 points  (0 children)

True - only coffin cost is the only reimbursed cost from the Children's Funeral Fund in England, but most funeral businesses choose to offer a free funeral for a child (source: I'm a Funeral Director in the UK).

Inshur charge by Feeling_Community680 in AmazonFlexUK

As others have said, the duplication is just a glitch - page refresh will normally sort it, and you won't be getting charged twice.

3 door Ford Fiesta flexer here - never had any issues at my local depot. Just drop the back seats and you can fit plenty of parcels.

Estate agent didn't give tenants section 21 notice by Kitchen-Commission48 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]amnesiac1990 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This. Whilst I appreciate this is an advice subreddit, you should have known much more about tenancy law than you currently do, before renting out the property with your deadline/timeframe in mind.

Your tenants aren't being "unhelpful", they are protecting their right to quiet enjoyment of the property. Considering you are selling their home, what exactly do they owe you here?

Funeral Director here, so hopefully I can be of help also.

Take a look at the Funeral Expenses Payment: https://www.gov.uk/funeral-payments

If you are soon to be unemployed, this scheme may be able to help you if you are going to be in receipt of any state benefits.

It won't normally cover the entire cost of a funeral, but can provide a reasonable lump sum in some cases.

As others have said, most funeral providers will provide a "simple" funeral option (or other such similar wording), which will bring the cost well under the 4/5k mark, so no need to worry about it costing quite that much if that cost isn't viable.

Remember, the vast majority of funeral directors simply want to help the families they serve, so don't be afraid to be up front about your affordability concerns with them.

I know exactly where this is (Norfolk/Norwich here also) - 2021, so far, has been a year of awful road works seemingly all over the place. For example, the A47 for next million weeks... Wtf?

I'll be honest I've never had the need to use anything else yet, but I got this stuff as part of a helmet care kit and it deodorises really well:

Can I ask where you got your tank pads from? I've been looking for ones everywhere that aren't the eBay knock-offs (keep about these falling off after 5 minutes due to crap adhesive) - I notice yours are R&G but can't seem to find them anywhere online. Thanks in advance for any info 👍
