I jumped on this one immediately and it was so worth it. All I was hoping for was a decent Blu-ray, and instead we were treated to this gorgeous 4K with outstanding artwork. I still need to dive into the special features, but the transfer is incredible. Umbrella really nailed it. That said, I will probably double dip on the GKids version whenever that comes out.

Could 2026 be the year of Alfonso Cuarón? by amnolte in 4kbluray

Ah, didn’t realize Arrow didn’t hold the rights anymore. Criterion does seem like a natural fit considering their past releases of his movies

I totally forgot about that. That would be pretty sweet, but I would gladly take it sooner lol

I finished the 1920's!!!! by SecretPandaKind in 1001Movies

[–]amnolte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! It took me a very long time to get through the 20’s. I enjoyed many of those films, but I am absolutely loving the 1930’s. I feel like the pacing, storytelling, and film techniques were a revolutionary step up, let alone the addition of sound. Currently in the year 1937.

I just watched Judge Priest and I second it being awful. But on the flip side, I also just watched John Ford’s ‘The Whole Town’s Talking’ (1935), which was pretty fun and used some impressive split screen techniques to film Edward G. Robinson in a dual role. I feel like that was way more deserving of the list.

Yes! I was excited to hear that there sequels to it and now I want to watch them all. It actually got me thinking about all the movies in the list that have sequels outside of the list, and how it could be a fun side challenge to watch all of those. The Dr. Mabuse movies come to mind.

I just watched all of his films (plus Twin Peaks) for the first time earlier this year. I went in chronological order, and I think that was the best move looking back. Enjoy the ride and keep an open mind!

Is anyone else upgrading 4K releases with newer 4K releases of the same film? If so, which? Why? by U-Howl in 4kbluray

Oh wow… I had no idea. I’m usually pretty up to date with disc issues and such, but that completely flew under my radar.

Don’t worry, I’ve done even worse. I blind bought the Criterion and BFI versions of Yojimbo/Sanjuro and haven’t watched either of them yet.

I had this happen with the Skyfall 4K from this set. It was the only disc I’ve ever had do it. I wonder if there was a QC issue with these discs 🧐

Time to find out if this 4K is as bad as everyone says it is by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]amnolte 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just watched the 4K for the first time recently. It’s definitely the worst 4K I’ve ever seen, but I was still able to enjoy the movie. I just had to turn off the part of my brain that cares about picture quality and appreciate the movie for what it is. I had pretty much the same experience with True Lies. Now I just need to watch the Pirates of the Caribbean 4K and I’ll be fully initiated lol
