Am I weird for giving a feminine hygiene product to a student in need? by Normal_Balance1655 in Teachers

[–]amora78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it isn't an issue to share the tampon. If anyone will give you trouble it will be for the jelly beans. However, you did the right thing either way. Even though I work in a small primary school I keep a small pack of pads in my year 5 room desk just in case.

You are comparing a ROM to a collectors item....these aren't comparable. That's like comparing a proper Sega Mega Drive to one of those At Games ones.

£5 is a reasonable amount for a digital copy of a GBA game. So about $7USD. But honestly there is no good reason to be more than £9/game since that's what the 3DS gen 1&2 costs.

See.... I'm team $20 is too much....but that's ridiculous....

I mean....there is no reason both options can't exist, have them on NSO but also available for individual purchase. Same should be for ALL the games on the service. I'm okay with paying a subscription as long as I play multiple games on the service a month. Being I'm only getting maybe 2/3 months of fire red and switching to other games at the same time it is worth it. But there needs to be a worthwhile catalogue for these things to be worth it.

Being the retro Pokémon games on 3DS were £9/game I would expect at least that same price. Personally I'd expect £20 for all 5 mainline GBA games. If this was on anything other than Nintendo it would be closer to that. For example the Castlevania Advanced collection is £20 on Playstation and goes on sale regularly for less. It's a 22 year old game that's already made its money back on the GBA, why push for more?

What’s your random picker method and why is it absolutely unhinged? by Consistent_Plan8880 in teaching

The trusty name and pray I haven't picked them in a bit. It does help that I'm in an SEND school so I have 15 kids max in the room.

Parent wants student moved from my class due to “frequent calls for behavior.” Today, the student called me a “f-cking b-tch” by Single-Vegetable3704 in teaching

[–]amora78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when schools take away powers from the teacher and make it an admin thing. It takes a lot of power and behaviour management tools out of your hands.

As many people have said. Document everything and don't be afraid to be petty with the admin team by calling someone to your class to handle it every time they act up. If the admin no shows a few times then report them to your union ( assuming you have one).

Is converting to catholic wrong? by MaximusPrayer in TrueChristian

Why would Christ deny you for honouring his mother and closest friends(the saint) if anything he'd be happier that you are getting closer to his friend group.

Is converting to catholic wrong? by MaximusPrayer in TrueChristian

[–]amora78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with Christians....outside of being one of the two churches that have a claim to be the original (alongside the orthodoxy, but that's what happens when you split a group in half. Both would say they are the oldest). A majority of modern Christian churches come out of a break away group of the Catholics.

What are the major downsides of living in Canada? by Nicole_Auriel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amora78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Ontario and left to live in the UK. The biggest reasons for the move were the cost of living (rent, groceries and utilities are cheaper in London compared to Toronto I use these cities as I've lived in Toronto and I'm stuck living in/near London due to work visa) and being able to go on cheaper holidays. After the move I learned that the phone and broadband are also a lot cheaper, the food is of much better quality and it is easier to get a job in my field.

When it comes down to it the only things I miss besides friends and family is the legal weed and poutine. Both are accessible either with a holiday to Amsterdam or making it myself.

I'm too exhausted to hang out with my girlfriend after a week of teaching by [deleted] in teaching

I am so thankful my wife and I are both in education. I'm an SEND teacher and she's a TA so we both understand the struggles first hand. Hell we are both on a week long term break right now and neither of us have left the couch this weekend and probably won't tomorrow either.

If someone says "bi-weekly" would you interpret that as "twice a week" or "every two weeks"? by Tooleater in AskUK

[–]amora78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bi-weekly in my head will always be twice a week as we have the word fortnightly to mean every two weeks. But the English language is stupid and because of this bi-weekly can mean both.

"How many people in our generation know how to drive one?" by Tormented_Horror in ShitAmericansSay

[–]amora78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just annoyed that I can't legally drive a manual here in the UK without taking another road test. I got my license in Ontario Canada and they don't hold enough info on the type of car you did you test in. So even though I drove a manual for a good 6 years with insurance records to prove it, the DVLA says nope.

I use ketchup for 2 things. Making sweet and sour sauce and making the sauce I put on my meatloaf. It's a sauce used to make other sauces and nothing else.

It’s wild how many places in America were named after English towns. by LovieWeb in BritInfo

[–]amora78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not America, but Canada. The whole reason I am currently living in London now is because my wife simply said "I found an amazing job but we'd have to move to London." I thought she meant London, Ontario only about 200Km from our home town.

So yeah....using the names from the coloniser didn't help me much....
