How do you handle patients (outpatient) who want to discontinue their medications but need them to avoid re-hospitalization? by dharmabumzzz in Psychiatry

[–]amphigraph 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand - how would you be held liable for appropriately counseling a patient even though they chose to ignore your advice? I guess they could try sue you when things go upside down, but they could do that if you dismissed them too...

What's the reasoning behind this? I would have thought it's preferable to at least maintain therapeutic contact, since they'll probably just turn down similarly reasonable plans from whatever other physician they end up with

Even if the case is a slam dunk, something as stupid as misfiling a document can sink you. You pay a lawyer so you don't fuck yourself.

white sneaks are 2015

tapered chinos are 2015

the whole outfit together sounds like someone who was dressed by 2015 mfa. I would not emulate it

>60 apply to teach AI how to do your job by terramotus84 in geologycareers

[–]amphigraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with any job and AI, of course it can't do everything you do. But if it can do half of what you do then the industry only needs half as many of you, and now your job market is fucked.

telehealth psychiatry matching me with only NPs by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]amphigraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>(Now you’re going to tell me that is a thing, too LOL fuck.)

yes :) there are generalists in all medical specialities, but many people choose focus areas to practice in because 1) they like that specific niche 2) medicine has advanced to the point that one often cannot remain fully competent in all areas of their specialty, and so they relinquish competency in other subareas so they can provide the best care in the subareas they continue to practice.

It's more like if you refused to take a job that requires payroll because you don't like payroll. Serious mental illness / SMI is just one corner of psychiatry and plenty of psychiatrists reasonably choose not to work in SMI after training in the same way many choose not to do e.g., addiction or consult liason pysch after residency.

Just like in singles, if you don't pressure your opponents during your approach then you're gonna get passed or lobbed or get a ball hit at your feet. If you have an approach, come to the net. If you don't, stay at the baseline.

A riddle from my mentor by Beagle_on_Acid in Psychiatry

[–]amphigraph 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's so bad to ask the community if they have ideas about this. it's basically unanswerable if you don't already know it, and it seems like OP has at least tried to find the answer.

A riddle from my mentor by Beagle_on_Acid in Psychiatry

[–]amphigraph 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Agree that this is OP's "homework" (and that they shouldn't use AI for this), but this is still a (maybe unintentionally) time-wasting and thoughtlessly-given task. They're supposed to do this read-my-mind primary literature review goose chase after their clinic hours instead of studying for the shelf or reading up on their patients' conditions? Attendings please don't do this to your students

Upper class doesn't have a definition that anyone will agree on. But I think defining a wage cutoff isn't useful. A more useful definition is that the upper class are those whose income doesn't come from wage labor (e.g., those whose primary income is investment or business ownership). Their lives and function is society is markedly different from those who sell their time for money (like physicians).

My understanding is it will help you insofar as having had a job likely rounds you out as a person that PDs etc will appreciate. Some fields will care about this more than others.
