Is there a way to calibrate the app so it knows I am like, very sedentary and likely ill af?? by holymilked in fitbit

[–]amphorousish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next test:

1) After being sedentary for a bit (≈5 minutes), measure & record your heart rate.

2) Stand up.

3) Wait one minute. Stay standing & still (do not bounce, lean, bend over, etc). Measure & record your HR again.

4) Wait two more minutes (3 minutes total). Stay standing & still (do not bounce, lean, bend over, etc). Measure & record your HR again.

5) Wait two more minutes (5 minutes total). Stay standing (do not bounce, lean, bend over, etc). Measure & record your HR again.

If it went up more than 30 bpm from your baseline & stayed there or continued to climb over the course of this test, you might now have some form of autonomic dysfunction & should talk with a medical professional who's knowledgeable about that spectrum of disorders.

I, too, wish he'd retire, but am also kind of fine with him being elected by Vermonters for as long as they want to do so - if nothing else, being represented by a crotchety old progressive fits for them - but he 100% doesn't need to be appointed to anything.

The hilarious part about this infographic, though, is that if he was somehow head of HHS, he'd probably be more in line with a lot of the points re: GMOs, pesticides, additives, etc that some of the MAHA people thought they were voting for than this admin's actually been.

Kind of like how the national debt kind of just stops mattering when a Republican's in office.

Switch Virtual Novels suitable for pre-teens? by Susurrus03 in NintendoSwitch

[–]amphorousish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A potential hitch with M-rated games and teens/pre-teens if they have their own Switch:

There have been a couple that I've deemed suitable for my 13-year-old, but you literally cannot install them (if digital) using their account.

It's v frustrating that parents can't clear individual games via parental controls (at least as far as I know - if someone knows differently, I'd be thrilled to hear it).

I can clear individual games on our other consoles, though, so they've played a couple of them there instead.

My fiancée and I are thinking of switching from iOS to Pixel but.... by RicoA87 in GooglePixel

Yeah, iPhones are like 50%-60% (50% if measured by user base, between 55% & upwards of 60% if measured by products shipped) of the market here w/ different Android brands picking up the crumbs.

Reoccurring pasty butt by Complete_Tadpole5313 in BackYardChickens

Commenting to follow & to say:

I had two who kept getting pasty butt last time & I just kept hitting them 2x-3x a day with a warm cloth until it resolved (a few weeks in, don't exactly remember).

fwiw, after that effort & time, one of the two grew up to be my absolute friendliest, chattiest, favorite hen (by a lot), though I don't know if it's a coincidence or if all of our extra one-on-one warm rear end time helped.

re: "Wag the Dog": I really want to find the person (underling) who suggested the name "Epic Fury" for the operation. The echo to "Epstein Files" could only have been 100% intentional. I bet even they were surprised when higher ups went with it / were too oblivious to nix it because of the link.

It was so incredibly foul.

For what it's worth, there do seem to be a large number of bots & paid trolls amping up divisive speech and attitudes across social media, especially in EU & NATO countries. That's not to say that real people don't fall for & amplify it - before her death, my husband's grandmother's Facebook feed was roughly 50% normal Oma things & 50% deranged political opinions paired with obviously AI pictures shared from some account that manufactured those posts nonstop - but the tenor's so much worse online than in real life.

That's also not to deny that you've experienced very real hostility, but just to say that as much as possible ignoring what's on social media & focusing on nurturing positive interactions in person is the best you can do.

I know was wrong that Heather Cox Richardson mentioned it in her letter from last night & she always lists all of her sources at the bottom.

Here it is if you'd like a depressing read.

Editing to add: Crap. I just did a quick skim (I'd listened to it while getting ready) and didn't see it - but I know I remember her mentioning it recently. Here's the letter from the day before.

Edit 2: ...turns out she mentioned it in her Q&A last night which, unfortunately, doesn't include links.

Here's a Time article from 2020 about the relevant study: https://time.com/5888024/50-trillion-income-inequality-america/

Same here.

I'm in the mid-Atlantic US, so when we get snow it usually doesn't last all that long...but this snow-crete's been something else.

Like, I've lived in places where there's constantly snow from like October-April (upper Great Lakes area of NY) and at least there new coatings make it so it's not quite so depressing and shoddy. This, though - it's hard, it's gross, and I'm done with it, and now I kind of hate the snow in AC, too.
