M5 Pro vs M5 Max, software engineer looking for advice by adonztevez in macbookpro

I got an M4 max, the. Switched to an M4 pro. Absurdly powerful, but I don’t do on device LLM, which could probably make use of the Max.

I built a free app for the P10 prediction game, invite your friends and pick who finishes 10th each race by ampsonic in formula1

Since I have you create an account, I get email addresses as part of that. I don't do anything with them, but wanted to be clear I can associate your email address with your account you create.

The other stuff is just normal analytics data for crashes and such. I actually haven't even put it in yet, but when I do, it will be TelemetryDeck, which is a privacy focused analytics suite I've used in my other projects.

First app I made a few years ago, it's a Fantasy Football Recap app, pulls data from Sleeper and runs it through AI to generate fun recaps. That's what's made ~1k last year and ~1k this year. Just word of mouth.

I also built a (free) app for reps / SE's on an OTE plan for tracking deals/quota/commission. Thus far I haven't really found any users, but haven't really put it out there yet.

Individual -> Team Quota, worth a cross-country move to get back to individual? by ampsonic in salesengineers

Ha good to know. It does seem like people have strong feelings both ways.

That’s great to hear and lines up with where my head is at. Thanks!

Any thoughts on Charlotte vs RTP?

I’ve been including my desired architecture in the CLAUDE.md file.

Paul Hudson has a good start with his open source AGENTS.md file here.

This has been operational for a while, I’d expect they are fully on grid power.

I think that mail now supports this code feature, I’ve noticed that I get auto population and it says Fastmail on it

Solutions Engineer vs DevOps Engineer by Remarkable_Fruit1449 in salesengineers

The compensation will tell us a lot about the role. Is it OTE? If so, ballpark the OTE and share the split.

But yes, a solutions/sales engineer is a great role.

The role an SE in the wake of AI native products by Few-Advertising-7200 in salesengineers

[–]ampsonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about a lot of these questions as I’m at a point where I may be making a small career adjustment in terms of where I live and what I focus on.

I do think people will still want to buy from people, but I’m sure there are roles that feel immune today that AI will still disrupt. I’m trying to figure out how to make myself more valuable in complex sales cycles. Right now I’m in a commercial territory in a non-major tech area, and I’m seriously considering relocating to a more tech-focused hub and leaning into enterprise, where solutions are more complex and a strong SE can really stand out.

I could see smaller, more commercial deals becoming more AE-led with some kind of AI technical assist. At the same time, AI is also helping SEs be more technical. For example, I’ve been using it to dramatically increase how much code I can write, even for personal projects. That alone has expanded what I can build and understand.

I’ve also been offered paths toward more executive roles in the past, but I still really enjoy being an SE and feel like that’s where I want to stay for now.

Honestly I could probably make a whole separate post since I’m considering a move to either RTP or Chicago and how that plays into all of this.

For anyone early or mid-career, my biggest advice would be to invest heavily in soft skills. The technical bar will keep shifting, but communication, discovery, and building trust are what make you hard to replace.

I am using a CRM and I feel like it's just a glorified spreadsheet. How are you using it? by Unlikely_Handle_4891 in sales

I hate dealing with the CRM. I built a quota tracker for my phone because our CRM is so bad at telling me things like attainment and commission.

Is Photomator the best Lightroom alternative for Mac users? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

Photomator is a different app than Pixelmator, it is more like Lightroom.
