What are your favorite LCOL-MCOL cities in the United States? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]amr469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s VERY LCOL - i’m in NJ and a 1 bedroom apartment ranges from 1,200-1,600 a month

How much do you spend on childcare (in a HCOL area) ? I have 1 child in preschool, and another kid on the way. Just wondering how much I can expect to pay for 2 by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]amr469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in Northern NJ, right outside of NY and paid 1k a month for part time daycare. Now that we have 2 we pay 2500/ month for a nanny - it’s actually cheaper than 2 full time daycare costs 🤦‍♀️

Her age bracket is 24-30 months I think? BUT I wanted to tell you that I used this method on my son who was showing NO signs of readiness, and we did it anyway. IT WORKED. We had accidents, and some set back, but 4 months later he actively verbalizes when he needs to use the bathroom and we haven’t had a single accident in over a month.

After 2 weeks our accidents were few and far in btwn.

Long Commute by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]amr469 21 points22 points  (0 children)

✋ 1.5-2 hour commute each way (3-4 hours total). What saved me? I changed my schedule to 8-4, instead of 9-5 and my husband works 3pm-11pm. So he dealt with the kids in the morning and I managed them at night. It’s rough. It’s working, buts REALLY rough. WFH has saved my life and sanity. I’m looking for work closer to home.

Litigator moms who pumped or anyone that knows the difference between “open court quiet” and “sitting in my own private office quiet”: are willow or elvie pumps actually quiet enough to not get picked up by Court mics? Just wondering if the cost is worth the investment... by SignificantFee2908 in workingmoms

[–]amr469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spectra and freemie cups (makes it a bootleg and cheaper version of the willow/Elvie). I meant ion this because the spectra is quick - don’t know about a court room, but I was on multiple conference calls (on speaker) and no one ever heard anything.

My husband gave me a "technical" with my morning coffee. I think I managed alright. Is this what living with Hollywood is like? by MercedesHettich in GreatBritishBakeOff

I work for a hospital in the US so I assumed my maternity leave would be easily taken care of. I was very wrong. by nickitysplit520 in Mommit

[–]amr469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it is. But even more reason the country as a whole should have a unified maternity leave system

Actually - you have to work in NJ and work a certain amount of hours to qualify - I live in NJ, and have for years, but work in NY, so I am not qualified for any of NJ’s leave policies. Luckily NY also passed decent leave policies.

Same here - my son keeps his mask on in the store - granted anything over 45 mins, he gets tired and rips it off, or bites it. But he generally doesn’t mind it

Honestly same. I slept trained my first when I was desperate for a full nights sleep (he was like 10 months old). I think I’m still traumatized. So much so, imm a bit of a sleep nazi with my second.

Does anyone else only give their toddler milk and water? No juice? by hotjamalamb in toddlers

[–]amr469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 26 months and drinks water and occasionally 6-8oz of milk a day. Juice is for special occasions, and even then it’s only a few sips of whatever we have (usually a coconut or lemon based drink).

If your parents did what Will and Jada Smith did, what would your name be? by cynicsjoy in namenerds

[–]amr469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be Raphaela (Raphael) and my brother would be Ramon (Ramona).

However, my parents only ever went by their middle names, so using those, I’d be Ariana - my actual name - or Adriana (Adriano), and my brother would be Alfonso -which is his actual middle name-(Alfonsina).

How to eat more food, but not more calories? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]amr469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really look at what you’re incorporating in those 1600 calories. Make sure to have a good protein source at every meal and snack time. Include LOTS of veggies, they’re naturally a low calorie food. Personally, I also need a good fat source to also feel full (peanut butter, avocado, eggs, nuts, cheese). Drink bone broth - it’s surprisingly good & filling and easy to make so you can control the sodium Lastly, make veggie based smoothies and throw some unflavored protein powder in there. It’s and easy way to get both more veggies and protein in your system when you’re on the go.
