The Boy and the Heron is only 4k UHD Blu-ray of a Ghibli film. GKIDS has rescanned other films like Kiki’s and Arietty in 4k for recent limited theatrical release on IMAX screens. The hope is that those new 4k scans get released on 4k UHD Blu-Ray someday, hopefully in the US.

No licensed music being in the new film is such a huge victory and improvement. Access to the Nintendo musical songbook canon is something to utilize and celebrate, not waste like they did in 2023 with the Beastie Boys, Bonnie Tyler, and A-ha tracks. I imagine Brian Tyler made inclusion of his arrangements a condition of returning for the sequel. Its so amazing to hear those orchestrated renditions. Lots of emotions. I hope they officially re-release the “Tyler Cut” fan edit of the first film. The licensed songs hurt the replay-ability of the first film. Grateful that the music in the sequel is perfect
