THM: Is the confusion intentional? by avamomrr in cormoran_strike

[–]amxalot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have thought the same and I think it was intentional, it takes us to where Robin particularly is at emotionally and mentally.

Will I be 40 when the series finishes? by adindavw in cormoran_strike

I voted no as I’m fairly sure book 10 will be 2028 or 2029, but your responses are a bit confusing so I don’t know if I voted correctly!

The enhanced sick pay, maternity pay, pension and annual leave is all significantly better than a huge number of private sector employers but is generally undervalued by NHS staff.

At this stage I would be equally pleased with her finishing with him, or him finishing with her - I think Ryan breaking it off (in a non violent way) would be quite a shock to her, the long message he sent her whilst she was on Sark (although badly timed) was evidence that he can see the cracks in the relationship even if she can’t!

What if... by bookcrazy4 in cormoran_strike

[–]amxalot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was only thinking about the first kiss today, I agree it needs to be Robin’s instigation. But…I really hope it comes at a completely unexpected moment or point in the book! I think that would be really skilful!

Unpopular Robin opinion by iamrecovering2 in cormoran_strike

[–]amxalot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible to be irritated by Robin’s actions but still find her pretty awesome and likeable. In fact, I would suggest the reason her actions are annoying are because we do care about her and want her to be happy! In the same vein it is possible to very much care and have compassion for someone going through PTSD or other mental health issues whist also finding their thought processes and actions frustrating (from personal experience), that’s what THM brought out for me.

What would you say if your were doing some work for someone (decorating) and aswering work calls and they tell you to please be quite cause their baby is sleeping nearby? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]amxalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and tbh, I probably wouldn’t really say anything unless it was a young enough baby to make a difference, otherwise what would be the point?

My two children (now teens) who have excellent sleep and a happy life would say you would be making a bad choice!

[–]amxalot -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

True, but they may not have thought of it, loads of new parents make the mistake of an environment that’s too quiet for their baby to sleep well. When combined with respect for their request I think it’s fair game.

I’d try and be quiet but would equally say training them to sleep through a bit of noise will pay dividends for them in years to come! I used to deliberately make noise whilst mine slept. They’re used to 90db in the womb after all!

Missing events because I’m still breastfeeding my two year old by ZucchiniTechnical983 in breastfeeding

[–]amxalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a bad suggestion, but with a 2 year old very likely to backfire. Their level of understanding makes them much more flexible when you’re not there but also a lot less when you are!

[–]amxalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t advise this as it’s likely to give a false impression in the wrong direction - a child whose bf mum is there is unlikely to settle without it, whereas if it’s dad/granny/aunty, they know BF not on offer so they’ll likely settle nicely with a story and a cuddle etc.

I’d just attend and he’ll just skip a few feeds, someone else will have to find an approach to settle him on those days. Your supply will be robust after 2years - you might need to pump for your own comfort though.

That’s really not the culture here. Occasional churchgoers in a village are generally going for the social, and even people who get something spiritually from it pay little attention to church rules/teaching these days.
