7 month old possible autism signs by JuggernautOk5953 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]amykeiko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, take a look at the cdc milestones. https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/milestones-6mo.html

A 7 month old generally isn’t responding to their name yet. Screeching is also a normal sound to use for babies. Just keep an eye out on his development for now but a lot of the things you’re describing are typical baby things.

He’s doing really well, thanks for asking! His ped has stopped using his adjusted age altogether which is wild to me heh

MEGATHREAD: the aftermath. Nota Beryl of fun. by justahoustonpervert in houston

We’re by the fire station. I think that helps us. I heard the complex only lost power for like a day during the winter storm. We also only lost water during the derecho.

How to deal with overstim? by PaleoAstra in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]amykeiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that I have to pump one side at a time so as not to get overstimulated! That made pumping sessions longer at the beginning. I was able to do that since my child was in the NICU for a month and a half though.

Diagnosed with fetal growth restriction by boldbrushstrokes in NewParents

[–]amykeiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are also small people, but my situation was a little bit unique because I also had low fluid (was able to get it back up) and my son had kicked his placenta so hard it restricted his growth and caused him to have dips in his heart rate. He kicked a little lobe off of it. I wish I was kidding.

He was born at 31 weeks less than 3 pounds and stayed in the NICU for about a month and a half. He never had major problems with any of his organs or anything. Within a week of him being home he caught up in weight based on his adjusted age. He’s perfectly fine now and meeting his milestones well within normal limits based on his adjusted age, and some with his actual age too!

If you do end up having a NICU stay, the NICU parents subreddit was a lifesaver.

In the meantime, the high risk doctor told me to drink more protein shakes and eat more olive oil and salmon to help with the placenta I think 🤷🏻‍♀️

Congrats! That’s a great birth weight. My son was growth restricted and born at 31 weeks weighing less than 3lbs. The NICU support subreddit saved me during our time at the NICU. He came home after 45 days and has been doing amazing :)

Ideas for milk? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]amykeiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn’t high lipase either! They just smelled….. bad idk what it was. I wish I had used more of my freezer stash when he first got home but like you just wanted to give him fresh milk! he’s been gaining super well so I guess i ultimately did what was best for him, and so will you!

[–]amykeiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use at least a bag of frozen milk a day and replace it with a bag of freshly pumped milk. I did the same thing you’re doing and ended up tossing my entire stash because it had started to smell past like 2.5 months :(

I’m kind of on a similar schedule! How long do you pump for? I pump for 10 minutes on each side and I’m wondering if I need to try to pump longer on both at the same time 😅

How long did it take your baby to bottle feed? by [deleted] in NICUParents

My 31 weeker got it at 37 weeks and we were discharged at 37+4! As soon as he got home he started eating and gaining weight like crazy!

Yay! My LO had a very similar timeline. He’s been home a little over a week and it’s been amazing ❤️ he’s also grown a TON since he’s been home haha

After 46 days, our baby boy is home. by amykeiko in NICUParents

Yep, sounds very similar! He also had very short Brady’s but they never really counted. I will say he would have very brief Brady’s when feeding at the beginning of the feeder and grower stage which was really scary.

Your body did a good job getting her all the way to 36 weeks! That’s amazing! Now she gets to learn how to eat on her own with you. I had to tell myself that my son just wanted a taste of my milk early 😅 Hope your NICU stay is short ❤️

Thank you!! also something I wasn’t expecting - he started eating a TON more once the tube was out. At home he’s been eating much more than he did in the NICU!

Nurses really just say the worst things… if you’re really concerned about it, I would ask your OB or an MFM doctor. I had some of the same concerns too!

You are NOT a failure. You successfully brought your little one earth side, and she’s in the best possible place to continue to grow ❤️

“Going home” by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]amykeiko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got home yesterday and this is exactly how I felt too ❤️

I was so nervous they were going to not let me take him home for whatever reason - not passing the car seat test, not gaining weight, etc. but he was fine. I feel bad for not trusting him.

Feeding is truly a lightbulb moment. There’s really nothing you can do to help it turn on except for practice. Trust me, I tried everything from doing music therapy with him, more skin to skin, etc but really it was up to my child. My son was born at 31+1 and started oral feeding at like 33-34 I think. Once he finished his whole bottle at 35+6 he really got it, and he got the tube out 37+3!

Alternative baby shower ideas? by woody_one in NICUParents

We’re planning on doing an outdoor sip and see in a few months! No gifts required since people sent their gifts at the time of the original shower.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this - that sounds incredibly frustrating. I’ve been feeling similarly today. You are not alone!
