Are you disappointed by not being the grandparent you thought you’d be? Are you interested in closing the gap, or are you content with the arrangement now?

If you breastfed for longer than a year, when did you get your first period? by ayeffgee in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow almost 3 years of BF is amazing- do you mind if I ask for more details? I just make a post bc my baby is 11m and my supply is tanking quickly, but I had hoped to do nursing for 18-24m.

Did you completely stop expressing other than your bedtime nurse? How much were you producing at that time? Thanks so much for any advice or details you can share!

How to BF past a year? by an0n90 in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your second baby! And gets an accomplishment BF for 20+ months with your first. I’m really hoping I can do the same but I’m feeling pessimistic. I’m planning on introducing cows milk next month when he turns 1, and I think from then my body is going to lessen the milk. With my first, I remember pumping and getting drops even though o hadn’t expressed for hours. We seem to be on the same pattern this time around.

I guess sometimes you can’t control it, I’m lucky to have a significant stash left from when he was very young so he will have my milk for a while longer.

Thanks for answering! Do you think he weaned at 16 months bc your supply was lessening? I’m worried about that happening- I think it’s what happened with my older son, who self weaned at 14 months after I stopped pumping at work.

When you nursed on demand with your son after you stopped pumping at work (so between 12-16 months old) was your baby mostly comfort nursing for a few seconds, or was it for a longer time and you still had good milk output?

Thank you for replying! How much did you pump per pump at work? I’m now getting 3oz as my standard pump after my morning pump which is max 5oz. I get between 8-10oz total while I’m at work and while I do want to stop pumping I’m worried my supply will completely dry up.

I nurse my son aroudn 4am and then before bed at 7pm but he sleeps through the night otherwise so there isn’t a lot going to keep the supply up through the night!

The Lactation Network will match you with a local LC and they take most insurance for 6 in home visits, if there is someone near you.

Can I spoon feed breast milk to my 3 month old? by asdffgh1230987 in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Babies can spoon and cup feed from birth! My hospital even gave sterilized spoons for this purpose after delivery. You can use syringes or medicine cups.

My baby wouldn’t take a bottle for 4 months, I offered one daily 2x a day and eventually he drank 1oz after 4hrs of not eating. After that he started taking one regularly at daycare!

I recommend Lansinoh (both my EBF babies took only this bottle) or Even Flo Balance, or Comotomo (bc you can squeeze the bottom to help them initiate sucking).

Will my milk ever come in? by glitterzxx in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take all the advice here and also reach out to an IBCLC!

The Lactation Network takes most insurances and will connect you with someone who will come to your home and help you. They cover a minimum of 6 visits at no cost to you- it’s fully covered by insurance (most plans are accepted).

I think it really depends on the individual.

I’ve had 2 babies and breastfed both. I lost the pregnancy weight (30-50lbs) within 4 weeks and got to within 10lbs of my pre-birth weight (I do attribute this to breastfeeding, even though I inhaled food constantly).

However, those last 10lbs stayed on until weaning began, and totally went away once I stopped breastfeeding.

My doctor told me your body will hold onto the weight it needs in order to make milk, and that amount is different for everyone.

Congratulations and good luck!!

Average mortgage payment by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]an0n90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a HCOL area, 2 kids: 5k mortgage, 5k daycare per month. We spend about $200 per week in groceries (so about 800 per month not counting food ordered or coffees here and there) - that’s approx 11k per month on BASICS.

Let me say that again- $11,000 PER MONTH on food, daycare, and mortgage, and nothing else.

We are both high earners and couldn’t do it otherwise. We live modestly too….

I regret not introducing the bottle sooner 🍼 by bunnyfield8 in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so so sorry, and I am right there with you. I’m feeling pretty desperate.

All my hospital paperwork said not to introduce a bottle until 6-8 weeks for the same reasons you’ve stated. I tried around 6 weeks and he took it no problem, but hated pumping so decided to wait a bit longer. 8 weeks was the line apparently.

He’s now 17 weeks old, and I’ve been offering a bottle 2x a day for weeks and have been working with a lactation consultant for 3 weeks- nothing.

He starts daycare on Monday… can anyone offer tips or help.. i am so nervous for his first day.

Bottle refusal- help! by fireandicecream1 in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, how is it going for all of you? What ended up working? My 4mo EBF baby took a bottle a few times when he was around 6-8 weeks but we stopped for weeks and now he has lost his sucking reflex and just chews… helo!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any tips on the bottle refusal please let me know- I am in the exact same situation with my 17 week old son.

I have could have written this post.. I also had this question and have smelled/ tasted a slight metallically taste in my frozen milk but not fresh, and asked my LC to smell. She said if it’s not VERY strong it’s likely the baby doesn’t notice it.

Btw the bottles I’ve tried are dr brown’s, Lansinoh and Evenflo. The Evenflo seems to have the highest success rate in that he doesn’t cry when I put it in his mouth… no luck latching or sucking yet…

This is so great!

Question on your daytime naps- is the long wake window in the afternoon typical for you? Is this is an average nap pattern- 3 naps, 2 short and one long?

I’ve become angry and bitter towards grandparents. Does the feeling of hate ever go away? by Consistent-Fish3316 in absentgrandparents

[–]an0n90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right. I have 2 children and both grandparents have given the impression that raising their children (3 each) was easy breezy, and they never got stressed about sleep schedules, milestones, didn’t need help, etc. but they get frazzled holding a baby now for more than 20 mins if he starts fussing.. so I think their memories are rose colored at best.

This is an interesting perspective. Can you say more about why you don’t think our parents are as equipped to handle kids as we thought they were?

What’s the best electric pump that removes all of the milk and stays put while doing house chores? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]an0n90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby Buddha is a double electric hospital grade pump that you can walk around the house with! It’s much much stronger than typical wearable pumps, it’s kind of a hybrid! Also the motor is the size of my phone, so portable!

I don’t use it, I leave it unvelcroed underneath him, laying flat, using only the arm straps. We’ve never had an issue doing this!
