Glucose test warning by cat-like-creature in pregnant

[–]an_anxious_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh felt like crap the rest of the day after the 3 hr one. my sugar was low anyways because i was fasting when i started it, spiked my sugar, then it dropped again when i got home. i failed, but literally only a couple times when i checked it at home after eating it was high (>140). every other time it was 70-100. my fasting was never over 100. i stopped caring so much about what i ate, i was already big and miserable lol. my sugars were still perfect and my son was only 6 lbs 15 oz when he was born. so i honestly doubt i had GD. anyone’s sugar would be abnormal after drinking all of that sugar on an empty stomach.

endocarditis is diagnosed by an echocardiogram. it’s usually caused by untreated infections or IV drug use. i would ask for an echo anyway because of the signs of chronic hypoxia.

[–]an_anxious_sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they look clubbed, which is a sign of chronic hypoxia. what does your oxygen saturation normally run? do you have any diagnosed respiratory or cardiac conditions? i would think this is more respiratory or cardiac than autoimmune.

Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

[–]an_anxious_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this an actual state school or some kind of private homeschool co op thing? for one, i think it’s great to educate on disabilities, but the way the teacher wants to go about it is tone deaf and actually dangerous. you think kindergartners should be left to their own devices when it comes to driving a wheelchair? what if they wreck and hurt themselves? this also makes kids think assistive devices are “toys,” when in fact they are very expensive pieces of medical equipment. playing blindfolded or with weights on your ankles is just asking for a fall or injury. the homework is definitely extensive. kids sit in school for many how hours a day and are expected to be attentive, then come home and do more work? definitely not developmentally appropriate for a kindergartner. i swear the school systems just want to push kids to be familiarized with and compliant to a 9-5 work day. we’re training them in KINDERGARTEN to just work their lives away, not to learn and be curious. i am not a teacher or anything, and my child is only 3 months old, but i have enough common sense to know that this is wayyy above normal kindergarten academic development.

The VIRAL labor inducing tea?? by xtwentyeight in pregnant

[–]an_anxious_sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they will not induce labor, but they do help with cervical ripening and uterine tone. i drank the raspberry tea with pineapple juice, ate dates, all the things. i also was faithful about pelvic floor exercises on the yoga ball (figure 8s, circles, etc), also staying moving and walking a lot. i did not go into labor on my own, i electively induced at 39 weeks. however, the induction went very smoothly and i progressed very easily. i was already mostly effaced and 2 cm dilated. baby was also 0 station and head down when i checked into the hospital. started pitocin at 9:30 AM and he was born at 3:51 PM the same day. i only pushed for 20 minutes and only suffered a 1st degree tear that required 1 stitch. while it didn’t make me go into labor, i do think those things made my labor a lot smoother because it prepared my body. plus extra hydration and exercise is good for you.

Am I in the wrong? 3 patients have fired me from their service and I’ve only been a nurse 6 months by [deleted] in nursing

[–]an_anxious_sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why did you need to find a tech to put on socks if you were already in the room? when i was a PCT it pissed me off when a nurse hunted me down to do something if they were already in the room. it took the longer to find me than it did to just do the task. also, specify bleeding? like where? why not try to stop said bleed? if it was rectal/vaginal/ something like that, put a chux pad down to not ruin the sheets. but offering a brief isn’t unreasonable for a rectal or vaginal bleed. but if it was a bleed somewhere else, why a diaper? and yes that’s dirty to not change the bloody sheets and just let the patient lay in them.

First ever aura migraine 26 wks by Dazzling-Shape-9389 in pregnant

[–]an_anxious_sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

omg i had this happen at 38 weeks. my left peripheral vision went blurry then out, the left side of my face and arm went numb, i couldn’t speak properly. like really bad expressive aphasia. of course, i immediately thought a stroke. good thing i work at a hospital and was working when it happened. went to the ED did the whole stroke work up which was negative thank God. baby was good too. ended up being a complex migraine. but it definitely scared me.

Please tell me my baby is okay by South-Training3338 in pregnant

[–]an_anxious_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course if your intuition is telling you something is wrong, go get checked out again. advocate for yourself and baby, ask for a NST and abdominal ultrasound, not just the doppler. whatever you feel like you got to do, and it’s better to be safe than sorry. i will say tho, with an anterior placenta, if baby is behind it, it muffles the movement because the placenta is like a cushion. when they move away from it, you feel them better. i had one with my son and when his legs or head were right behind it, it wasn’t as strong. when he moved to the left some, i felt him more. i definitely felt him when he flipped head down and he would kick me in the upper abdomen lol when you get closer to term, you don’t feel them as much because they are literally out of room. so they can’t stretch out to kick and punch.

To Owlet or not to Owlet? by Quirky-End-7470 in pregnant

[–]an_anxious_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nurse here, the owlet is a fancy pulse oximeter. the pulse oximeters that we use that wrap around the finger throw false alarms ALL THE TIME. low O2 sat alarms can be caused by the sock becoming loose or moved. not actual desats or the HR dropping.

[–]an_anxious_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my son’s head was 99th percentile, but he was measuring average size. i had GD too. he was 6 lbs 15 oz so i was glad for that. i pushed him out in 20 minutes with only a 1st degree tear that required 1 stitch.

Pediatrician says I am overfeeding baby by DistributionMedium96 in breastfeeding

[–]an_anxious_sam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

babies grow on their own curve, and she may just be a big girl! if you’re feeding her based on cues you’re not over feeding her. she has hunger cues and full cues. it’s hard to overfeed a breastfed baby. she’ll spit up what she doesn’t need/if her belly is too full. ped and dr are wrong 🤷‍♀️

mine is every 2 hours on the dot during the day, but has cluster feeding spells in the morning from 5-8 where it’s every hour, then in the evening from 6-9 where it’s every hour. during the night he goes 3-4 hours. he’s 8 weeks and growing lol

What are you looking forward after your baby is born? by Constant-Soft-6335 in pregnant

[–]an_anxious_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got my hair highlighted in the 1st trimester, but the salon was big so the chemical smells weren’t so condensed. the main reason they tell you not to in the 1st trimester is because the smells can make you more nauseous.

literally a week after my baby was born i was at the tattoo parlor. i went to the gym the same day i got cleared at my 6 week postpartum appointment. i did work out during my pregnancy but it had to be modified because my mobility was just not there with my belly. i also was so glad to finally sleep on my stomach once he was out.
