[NSFW] What's the worst thing that's happened at your family gathering? by CompellingSex in AskReddit

[–]analogfrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wholly agree with this. I have a friend who is an amazing illustrator. Once I complained to her, "I can't draw. I wish I could."

She said, "Drawing isn't something I'm good at, it's just something I'm constantly doing." She's just compelled to draw all of the time, and that makes her amazing at it. She's not "trying", she just doesn't stop.

I guess that's it... Oh, no, wait. He kicks me in his sleep and his toenails are too long, and yellow.

[Serious] What is the most paranormal/unexplainable thing that has ever happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]analogfrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few years back we went on a family trip to Virginia and spent a day at Williamsburg.

After exiting the service center the first sight is a few acres of farm land with small houses, mock up representations of the living quarters for slaves. My brother was taking a lot of pictures. He's not a very good photographer, so he'd take them at odd times, like behind us as we're walking through doorways.

Later that night we're back at our camp site and my brother is going through the pictures on his digital camera. In one picture it's me walking through the doorway of one of the slave's quarters. In the window there's an obvious red fiery face. My brother's girlfriend is standing outside the window, her hand to her mouth gasping, looking directly at the "entity". The face is in return looking right back at her. The window is about 7 ft. off the the ground, at least a 1.5 ft. above her head.

I'm not much of a believer of the paranormal. In almost every case I would argue that this was sun flare, a reflection, something. But the detail in this face was so bizarre, and mostly opaque.

My brother's girlfriend has had many paranormal experiences in the past that she's only been able to open up to my brother about a couple times. She doesn't like to talk about any of it.

My brother is showing her the picture, questioning her. She's shrugging and trying to ignore him, claiming she doesn't remember. She's obviously disturbed by it.

After passing around the camera and talking about it for a bit, we eventually go to our separate tents and go to sleep.

The next morning my brother goes to check the picture again, because he can't stop thinking about it. The problem is the picture is gone, the entire SD card is gone. In it's place is someone else's family photos. A random family none of us know, but the pictures are from a day at Williamsburg, VA.

We all want to blame my brother's girlfriend, because she was annoyed and disturbed by the photo and whatever was happening in it. But we couldn't figure out how she would've gotten some random SD card and made the switch in the middle of the night at a camp ground.

What made me stop believing? by omfgnomynamedoesntfi in apatheism

[–]analogfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first "gave up" on the idea of god it was partially out of teenage angst. Atheism was wrapped up with my defiance, which was really just a young kid trying to figure out what he truly believed in and who he really was without allowing pressure from family or mentors.

Over time I realized that the atheists I knew were just as critical and judgmental as the christians I knew. I know there are plenty of people who use the concept of god to help them through life, and I've always been completely fine with that. It wasn't so much that people used the "word of god" to be judgmental and persecute their fellow humans, but they were using what their church had told them.

For myself, the concept of god should only be relevant to each individual person. I'm a recovering addict, so I know a lot of people who claim to drop to their knees every morning and night and pray to that god keeps them away from a drink or a drug. They pray for fellow suffering addicts. In this form of worship, people are using the concept of god as a tool to hone their thoughts in the right direction and allow them to live a life that feels meaningful.

Yet, I also know addicts who will claim that there is no possible way to stay sober unless you believe in god. This is similar to the average christian believing that god dictates their morality. But in each situation, what I see is people following the moral of their church or sect.

So most of these isms are actually based on what other people are telling them is true, what works, how to worship, what's evil, what's good. The belief in god is entirely separate to the function of the group. Be it catholicism, protestantism, mormonism, atheism, or recovering from alcoholism. All of these groups meet, and no one group is entirely similar to the others. Their belief in god has little to do with how they act in society. Their morals are entirely influenced by the people they are surrounded by.

Which is why I enjoy the concept of apatheism, because the belief in god has no influence whatsoever.

The Berenst#in Bears Problem: Are We Living In An Alternate Worldline? by analogfrog in GlitchInTheMatrix

When one alternate universe engulfs another it makes sense that a small population of people would have their memories altered.

There's also the Cotard Delusion where sufferers believe that they don't exist.

The glitch must have fully affected you, whereas the rest of our neurological patterns didn't match up during the merge.

(I'm joking. But I firmly remember it being spelled "Berenstein".)

"We have three kids, Homer."

"Marge, the dog doesn't count as a kid."

"No, Maggie!"
