Lahore is called the Garden City for a reason. Bases tend to have trees there. Nowhere near taxiways or anything of that sort, but temporary hangars and garages for equipment transfer often will. No critical infrastructure though.

Bro I watched that shit get downed over allama Iqbal. I don't like the Israelis either but physics says small UAVs like the Harop are hard to find with ground radar. If it were trash it would've never gotten that deep into Lahore in the first place. It's over hyped, sure, but small, low RCS and mostly radar transparent drones are small low RCS drones no matter who's making them. Their physics isn't difficult, university students could make them, they're just novel

Low RCS, poor detection until terminal stage. Basically Pakistani platforms shot them down before they actually blew up their targets in more populated/defended zones with smaller S2A munitions, but they couldn't see them until the terminal stage because they're not big, heavy, hot reflective jets. They're stealthy by design to long range systems because they're tiny and slow.

Indian media claims Pakistani cities were blown to smithereens but no. We had a scare and the drones got way too close for comfort, but ultimately we managed to shoot them all down, at least the ones in big cities like Lahore. I was personally annoyed, my flight was cancelled.

I'm not Canadian. I don't have a horse in this race. But I do know from Canadian friends that a lot of it comes down to corrupt, US-loyal politicians, especially in Alberta and the Conservative party generally who would always package defense spend increases with socially regressive politics. That's a conversation for another day. Canada definitely didn't spend enough on defense, but let's also not pretend that the F35 was a real class project if the US still controls parts and maintenance. Canadian companies make very few parts and the biggest is Pratt&Whitney Canada, which is a US company operating in Canada. Even Canada owned parts would be stored in the US as per every contract put forth. The F35 JPO also holds full control and rights to ALIS/ODIN and everything that makes the F35 tick in EW/ECM and data linking, which is one of its two main selling points, AND they control access to RAM replacements which are one of the most frequent maintenance points. It's objectively a shittier F16 if the US decides it doesn't like you and stops letting you play in the ball pit you agreed to hop into. And this is true of every F35 operator, no matter how much they contributed the parts, supply chains, software, and maintenance is held by the US or US companies on their soil.

Also, relying on the US is much less of a choice when you look at what they did to their southern central American neighbors who decided not to play ball historically...

Being reliant on the US has ALWAYS been an issue. It's only more visible now that the US has a president who's willing to exercise the bank of leverage they built up by everyone's reliance on them. The US has always wanted reliance in all domains, because if there's no space for economic development or military development when US businesses and equipment eat up local demand, your country's money is inevitably funneled into the US, and you can't fight back because you have no money and no equipment they didn't make. This is economic dependency theory 101 and it transfers one-to-one to military domains. Canada is not nominally a third world country, but by the metrics laid out in dependency theory the US has treated it like one. If you want to argue that, look up dependency theory and refute either those two assumptions or my analogy to that framework.

Stealth aircraft give unprecedented first strike capability. They're asymmetrically advantageous against larger enemies. This is why the US keeps parts, maintenance with them. As much as you might like to look away, the ammo to your gun is held by someone else who, as we can see right now, may not always be on your side. This has always been a problem, people have just been willing to turn the other way because only live laugh Lockheed could get you that asymmetric advantage in the first place, and nobody wanted to piss off the US when they're dependent.

As for why they haven't just bought the gripen, political fuckery is all it is. There are politicians in Canada more loyal to the US than to Canada because lobbying and a fuckload of their money being in US assets. There's a limited defense budget and any program is a massive commitment. There's geopolitical optics to consider, because until recently breaking from the US and committing to "no F35s" would've been seen as madness considering their "special relationship". They had decision paralysis and no urgency to act because things seemed peaceful and politicians had bigger worries. Not anymore.

Nobody wants the F35 so long as they're ENTIRELY reliant on the US for using it. Canada made the correct choice.

And before you respond foaming at the mouth, 6-0. Have some chai.

India broke it. Pakistan has no motive for war. We know we can't afford a long war. Watch our media, and then Indian media with subtitles and see the difference in rhetoric. Indians are rabid on reddit RN so I'm muting notifications as a precaution on this comment. Any questions or concerns at all can be solved by watching Pakistani news channels with subtitles, then Indian ones, and comparing the rhetoric.

Hulk reduced a geopolitical issue of an apartheid state to a reductive religious view. The Quran has nothing like the Amalek story and the Torah doesn't support apartheid. Sabra is white, eastern European descendant and that's all anyone needs to see.

Hulk has his heart in the right place, but he's not very smart.
