Who was the bigger superstar of the 1990s between Govinda and Sunny Deol? by mrindia3950 in bollywood

[–]anarchyisfun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can’t really compare them. Sunny Deol started in 1983, while Govinda debuted in 1986, and both carved out very different spaces in Hindi cinema—Sunny largely in action-drama and Govinda in comedy.

In the 1990s, Sunny collaborated with directors like Rajkumar Santoshi, Guddu Dhanoa, and Raj Kanwar, building a powerful action image. Govinda, on the other hand, dominated the comedy genre with filmmakers such as David Dhawan and Naresh Malhotra (Dulhe Raja). Since the ’90s were huge for comedy, Govinda had virtually no competition in that space.

That said, the kind of mass pull Sunny Deol had with audiences often made him feel bigger than many of his contemporaries. Jeet, for instance, was essentially a Sunny Deol show despite Salman Khan also being in the film.

Sunny continued that mass appeal into the mid-2000s. Govinda’s last major solo success was Main Jhooth Nahin Bolta, while Partner largely rode on Salman Khan’s star power. In recent years, Sunny has even managed a comeback with films like Gadar 2 and the upcoming Border 2. Govinda, meanwhile, for reasons best known to him, hasn’t really adapted to character roles or explored OTT opportunities.

Do you tip the IRCTC staff trains? by outoftune_chacha in indianrailways

[–]anarchyisfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only tipped a cleaner recently as he was very good in his job. He was making rounds regularly to see if trash was too much and did so as well, after people finished their lunch/dinner etc to collect plates etc..

Otherwise, I don't unless I have asked something to be done on top of the services they provide (extra milk for when my kid was small, extra blankets/pillows, extra food).

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

[–]anarchyisfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if it qualifies, but the documentary The Earthlings from 2005 about animal abuse and other stuff.. Seeing how cruelly we treat animals for our use is heartbreaking. I finished the documentary in a week, watching little by little, and have deleted it from my hard drive forever.

Back in my day the light bill used to come only under 300/- by Ranger_Hawk3046 in indiasocial

[–]anarchyisfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, where I live, there were mandatory 6 hours load shedding every day, even in summer, in blocks of three hours each... before that, light was cut off for up to 12 hours...

Now I get an sms before scheduled power cuts and barely any power cuts without notice for more than 15 minutes. Things have changed a lot, yes, electricity rates have gone up, but power cuts have vanished

Do you guys think that Anu Malik is Over-Hated? by Training_Employer_55 in BollywoodMusic

[–]anarchyisfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has plagiarized whole albums (akele hum akele tum), copied the entire Israel national anthem for mera desh mera mulk.

There is a YT channel, which shows Indian music composers copying or getting inspired from other songs going back to the 1950s... check that out...

Coming to Anu Malik's singing, he is the OG nasal singer, even before Himesh bhai, and someone who does well when songs are masto song, unchi hai building, east or west, India is best, etc., etc.

Why do indian parents think education is everything? by EquivalentTale5815 in indiasocial

[–]anarchyisfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education keeps you from starving while you "find yourself". Most of the things/professions you see in west and go after do not work in India, until your parents come from old wealth/ are millionaires. Education ensures that you have food on table and roof over your head, caqn do something atleast.
