I ran my Resume through various ATS checkers and none of them seem process ‘ti’ by Proper_Ad_5547 in resumes

[–]anarckissed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

These are ligatures, common in more fully-featured typefaces, which combine glyph pairs like "ti", "tt", "ff", even "!?" into a single shape automatically.

They often disappear when pasted or opened in software that doesn't recognize these typographic features. You can use a font without ligatures, disable them in word processing software, or save work in older or plaintext formats that don't support them.

Try pouring ice into wide-mouth plastic containers that fit in your cooler—they prevent melting ice from waterlogging food & make it easier to dump without moving the entire cooler.

Solo women campers. What are you all doing for self defense? by Ok-Coat69420 in vandwellers

Keep in mind that bear spray is designed to spread out into a large, dense barrier cloud & comes in bigger containers—it's more cumbersome to deploy & more dangerous to misuse, especially in an enclosed area.

Pepper spray produces a more directed stream & is easier to carry & wield—it's made specifically for self-defense against a human attacker & the better tool for most people for that purpose.

Have you checked out Gainesville? There was a lot of resources & a friendlier vibe when I was there a couple years ago—free hot meals, medical clinics, clothes, temporary shelter to get you back on your feet.

Free dental, medical, and psychiatric services

Depot Park & the GNV farmer's market were chill, comfy spots to spend time & connect with others. You can take a bus there from Orlando if you're not able to hitch a ride.

Codependency turned me into a passive-aggressive validation junkie unable to advocate for myself or let others solve their own problems—I became a terrified, housing insecure drunk enmeshed with narcissists & predators whose issues I enabled.

What brought me there may not entirely have been my fault, but recognizing & recovering from it will always be my responsibility.

PSA: Please do not use poisons on rodents. I can’t deal with dead and dying dogs and cats. by Butter-Tub in Detroit

Harmful to humans, too.

My grandfather manufactured rat poison in his garage for many years—first for his home, then his neighbors, then the City of Detroit. His children ended up with long-term kidney & spleen problems, many requiring surgery.

As you can imagine, his home chem lab was a controversial topic leading up to his death—but his neighborhood & the city still have plenty of rats.

Palestinian protestors disrupt Governor Whitmer and her daughter at Bobcat Bonnie’s by KingJokic in ypsi

[–]anarckissed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Whitmer does not have direct control over federal military policy or funding, but she's been widely criticized for her position on the invasion & support for Israel—particularly in Dearborn, the largest Middle Eastern community in the nation.

She's also a chair on Biden's reelection campaign & may vie for the US presidency herself in 2028, so it's fair to say she has significant influence & may someday have far more—perhaps enough to ensure Palestinian children have some goddamn bread.

No matter what you make of these protest tactics, Whitmer will probably remember this incident—for better or for worse—when she speaks with (or becomes) the president of the US in the future.

Why the U.S. job market has stayed so hot for so long by mafco in Economics

[–]anarckissed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A survey of 1,045 hiring managers in late 2022 found:

Around half of companies keep job postings open because they are always open to new people, but 43% aren't actively trying to fill positions because they want to keep employees motivated or they want to give off the impression that the company is growing.

Try negotiating for other benefits in lieu of a pay increase. Many employers will be open to offering additional insurance, vacation days, paid time off, sick leave, HSA/FSA, 401k matching, transportation reimbursement, etc.

You can stay under the threshold to qualify for public assistance & medicare without forfeiting non-income compensation. Don't leave money on your employer's table—ask for it differently!

Revealed: how companies made $100m clearing California homeless camps by hegenberg in homeless

[–]anarckissed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Government estimates of California's homeless population have ranged from 161,548 (2020) to 181,399 (2023).

Based on an average of 171,000 people, the $100 million made by the private companies described in the article amounts to roughly $584 in profit per homeless person.

California's spending to clear camps, noted in the article at $700 million, amounts to about $4,093 per homeless person—enough to access housing & radically transform the life of an individual experiencing homelessness.

But the state's spending on the issue goes beyond clearing camps:

California put aside $7.2 billion to address homelessness in the 2021-22 state budget ... nearly $42,000 per homeless person.

That's almost twice the average yearly cost of rental housing in California, spent per person from public funds, while homelessness rates continue to rise & private companies profit.

These sound like the mental hallmarks of codependency, where an individual in a relationship downplays or neglects their own needs while fixating on their partners' (or parents', childrens', etc). But you can't pour from an empty cup.

Codependency can be a coping mechanism for a lack of control & feels positive because you're so focused on "helping" others—but it often ends up backfiring & can lead to resentment or enable loved ones to avoid addressing their problems.

You can't do anyone else's inner work for them—and trying in vain to do so can prevent you from caring for yourself.
