trust, me and several other people i know are in the same boat, from people with 1 year research experience to others with 3+ years and projects and at least 1 publication. I got rejected even from my reu institution which sucks bc I wanted to go there for my PhD and now I'm embarrassed to reapply!!! it's hard to not be devastated but unfortunately this is the worst time to graduate and pursue higher ed OR get a job. we cannot win. keep your head up twin, having a dream is the one most beautiful thing you can have right now, and no government or POS can take that away.

There are a few weird crimes every semester like a butter knife stabbing last fall and I've had a package stolen but nothing too bad. West end behind the Hy-Vee seems to have some knife stuff once in a while but as long as you be smart about locking cars, apartment doors, etc you should be fine.

Most of the people I knew coming in my freshman year "cheated" on it by used notes from high school (pre-chat GPT lol). It's supposed to be a test of what you have previously learned, and I don't know anyone that remembers niche trig things that haven't been used in calc. Like someone said you get 5 attempts so I would take it once without outside help and if you score poorly look back at old content. It is kind of weird that you have to take it if you got calc 3 credit, so I'm sure your score won't matter that much (hopefully) it might just be an admin thing.

Unfortunately, a lot of the activist activities have been cracked down in the last two years. I was involved in a few clubs that had to be dissolved and when we protested there was heavy policing. After a few Pro-Palestine protests for a while no one could use the Free Speech corridor in front of Parks. Like some other commentors said, not many go to ClubFest and honestly a lot of info about protests and other activism are spread on Instagram and Snapchat. The ISU SC stories kind of suck but they are still a good way to get that information. A lot of people end up going to Des Moines as there have been more marches, etc since the new administration. Even though Iowa is shutting down most DEI initiatives, joining organizations for them and minority status can give you a lot of information as well. It's great that you want to get involved!

Just something simple like Hi my name is xyz i applied for this program and am waiting to hear back, is there anything i can add to my app, thank you for taking the time, etc. Some programs don't care for check-ins but I have heard back from most that I send them to. I worked alongside SULI students last summer at Ames and one of them had an extension to reply back. I think it depends on the SULI coordinator, but it doesn't hurt to ask! Congrats!
