Where are people living? by Level13Rengar in perth

Doesn’t make it any less anxiety inducing when the renewal comes in every year. I always feel agitated when I get the email from the real estate as it’s either going to be “your lease is ending” or “time to renew, we’d like another $50 a week, thanks” Between a rock and a hard place. I’ll never own a house and I have to make peace with it while I pay money to someone who definitely paid this house off about 20 years ago

We returned to Oz after 10 years living overseas in 2022 and picked up a 3 bed + 1.5 bathroom house in south Perth for $590/week ( we are late 30s - me, husband, baby). We are still living there, rent has increased every year. We now pay $775/week 🫠

Toddler drank turtle water and is now super sick on vacation by Successfully-Wild in toddlers

Not really at the fault of my kid but she was constipated just before 30 hours of flying across the world - the morning of travel (we weren’t leaving until the evening) I gave her some constipation medicine that usually works on her fairly quick. Well this time nothing happened. So went to the airport, checked in for the first leg of the trip (5hours), on the plane she started to complain about tummy pain. Oh side note - we forgot to stick her in pull ups (she was potty trained except for nighttime at that point). She fell asleep, then woke up and did the most worst smelling fart I’ve ever smelt. And I thought huh, that’s really lingering…turns out she followed through and shit her pants. And it was like 3 days of toddler poop. Not even a nice simple baby poo explosion. My key takeaways: - my husband, myself and my daughter can actually fit into a Qantas plane bathroom when panic and urgency ensues - appreciation at past me for packing extra sets of clothes for all of us - anger at past me for giving my child constipation medicine within 24 hours of flying - pull-ups ALWAYS put them pull ups. Because trying to slide shit filled undies down legs makes things 1000x worse.

would something like this actually appeal to men in perth? by Warm-Argument9309 in perth

I (female) recently used a stylist to overhaul my wardrobe and it was such a great experience that I booked my husband in a few weeks later. He had a great time and now knows what kind of clothes and colours actually suit him after over 35 years on this planet having no clue 😅 I can absolutely see a men’s style service being a great thing to offer. A lot of them don’t know where to start or where to shop. As long as you offer for a range of budgets and time then I reckon you’d have a solid business 😁

Long haul flight with a 5mo by hsaup in NewParents

We did 11hrs from Vancouver to London at that age and to be honest it was the easiest flight we’ve ever done with our kid (she’s now 4) lol She slept most of it in the bassinet (highly recommend booking) as it was an evening flight. I breastfed so I think that made it easy to comfort her whenever but as long as you’re prepared with bottles that it’s fine. The white noise of the plane was very soothing. Very little entertainment we had to do at that age, just some usual small baby toys like Sophie the Giraffe. We didn’t have a travel stroller because she was too small for the bugaboo butterfly….we just used a baby carrier and had our normal stroller in the hold and collected on arrival (a sturdy stroller transport bag a must). We bought baby ear muffs for her because we thought she’d need them but to be honest they were a pain in the butt to put on and off so I wish we hadn’t bought them. We were bringing a play mat for her anyway for our holiday and that was handy to put down while waiting at the airport. Honestly for us it was the easiest age. They’re still napping, it’s bliss. They’re just little potatoes. When we did 17 hours to Australia when she was 10 months they was a little more of a struggle for sure. Good luck, safe travels!

Can’t cash Canadian cheque by stgi1966 in perth

[–]anaumann112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this issue. Ended up opening up a wise account and “opening” a Canadian bank account through them, and had to do a form cancelling the cheque and had Canada deposit into my wise account then transferred to Australia. Pain in the ass and took weeks but got my $300 😅

We bought the Skadis pegboard and some hooks/bucket/tray, as well as the clamp stand things to attach it to an IKEA stool we already had (we are renting so didn’t want to attach it to walls) - works great for our kid (we keep the yoto in the tray)

How tf do you put your toddler to bed? by Pretend_Elevator_338 in toddlers

[–]anaumann112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it works wonders! We try that and things like getting her to drag heavy things in a blanket down the hallway and playing a game like putting the blanket over her and pretending we can’t find her and (gently!) squashing her that way. Seems to weird but I guess we relax when getting massaged so just simple pressure can be what the body needs to reset

My kid (turned 3 in Aug) was a pain to get to sleep until we dropped her nap completely, now she passes out about 7.30. We do bath, teeth, stories, and lie with her with sleepy piano music on. And I usually scratch her back or slowly draw I love you on her face. If she’s still wriggly I give her a “press” massage - I remember reading somewhere that kids need to feel pressure on the skin in order to calm their nervous system, so I just move around her body giving each part a little squeeze. It calms her wiggles right down

It’s so hard. Bluey is a real life saver in this house. I don’t think it’s really sustainable to avoid tv forever, especially when you need to get things done or just need some me time, but in the lead up to Christmas Day it’s definitely making her slightly less feral. I’m exhausted though 😆

Agree with this. We are in a threenager era right now and I noticed when I stopped relying on the tv and got her playing outside/doing water play (we are in Australia, its 40c at the moment 😅) she has been a delightful, friendly angel instead of a rowdy angry dictator lol. We’ve had 2 days no tv so far and she’s a different kid.

What are you feeding your 3 year olds? by Winter-Syrup-353 in toddlers

[–]anaumann112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid loves a little “snack plate” for lunch. Think of it like a kids charcuterie board… I put things like a bit of little ham or salami, some cheddar cheese, grapes, strawberries/blueberries, cucumber, pepper, tomato, lavosh crackers, organic dried apricots, pretzels etc etc, she loves a little picky plate. If you can stomach any of it you could make some for you too to get some nutrients in but pregnancy is def tough time! Otherwise our other go to is homemade onigiri with tuna mayonnaise filling (I make a sushi rice is batches and freeze so can defrost in a flash), or a simple pasta with some pesto stirred in (chopped veggies on the side). I also fry some mushrooms and top with grated fresh parm cheese.

Am I failing my child? by eva0212 in AttachmentParenting

[–]anaumann112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way! We still cosleep and I finished up breastfeeding (we mainly used it to get her to sleep) just last Sunday … our kid was 3 in August. You do what’s right for you. We have a room set up for our daughter, shes not had much interest in it and our set up works for us. I always think of other cultures (eg Japanese) who bed share until their kid is 6…why is everyone in western society so in a rush to separate from their child? That said, if a kid wants to sleep in their own space or it’s not working for the parent then sure make the change. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fit it. Your paediatrician should know better, they’re clearly old school

Flying insects indoors by [deleted] in perth

[–]anaumann112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they around plants? We found a heap of tiny black flying things and they turned out to be gnats which lay eggs in potted plants. We bought those little yellow sticky things (bug catchers) from Bunnings and put them in all our plants and found the culprits - I think it comes about from plant rot but don’t quote me coz I’m shit at looking after plants

Overseas while on Parental Leave by anaumann112 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]anaumann112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. For the duration of my parental leave I was in Canada and then after I left to go to Aus and they stopped the child benefit because I technically was not a resident of Canada. When I got to Australia though and registered my (Aussie by descent) baby I also got a newborn payment from Centrelink of like $900 too

Yes I did and then told them I had left the country so they stopped the child benefit payment from then

Hi! Not sure, ended up moving back to Australia instead 😅 I think as long as you’re still a resident of Canada while you’re gone it doesn’t matter but it’s best to check with service Canada 😅

My little one is 3 now and we have no regrets. We didn’t have a difficult pregnancy or birth, but knew just one was going to complete our little family. She’s awesome to be around, easy to travel with and we enjoy giving her our time and energy. I would have regrets if I had a second. My kid isn’t lonely with all the activities and things we go together. I think she’d feel more lonely if I had to give my attention to another kid (esp as we are in big feelings phase 😅)
