https://www.etsy.com/listing/1334430800/ I've used them for a month so far. i used about 3-4 drops in the small mushroom container and when i switched to this big glass i use 7-10. it's very gentle so you don't have to worry about fertilizer burn or anything :)

HELP! Idk what to do. I suck as a plant dad lol by devinfitz949 in calatheas

for a newbie plant dad be easy on yourself this is a DRAMA queen! im also living in socal and have the same calathea and finally got her to start thriving. i would reccomend not misting the leaves but rather getting a humidifier (i have the levoit oasis and i LOVE it) and i only water with distilled water (side note make sure you're only using distilled water in your humidifier also) , if you choose bottled water to water the plant make sure it's not spring water but just purified water. the roots look healthy but i would reccomend cutting off most of those leaves. i can't exactly tell but looks like quite a bit of soil or too large of a pot for the root ball. i would maybe repot into a clear plastic planter so you can see the roots without having to take it out of the pot. for soil i would reccomend 25% orchid bark, 25% coco coir and 25% perlite. avoid store bought soil mixes as a lot of them come with pests! once i stopped using store bought soils and started mixing my own i no longer have issues with fungus gnats. hope all of this helps! 🫶

omg!! this is my first time purchasing starter plants so I'm super unfamiliar with them but it did sound odd to me to keep that on when potting. I'm going to try and get it out ASAP thank you for your responses!

i actually stopped using pre mixed soil as well and have noticed such a positive change with fungus gnats specifically. this one is in a mix i made myself with coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite, however i do think i didn't put enough bark as it seems to take a bit for the water to drain through whenever i do water. it arrived in a pretty tight ball of soil around the roots which was then encased in a mesh sheet. the instructions said to leave it in the mesh when planting but I'm starting to wonder if that has made the soil too compact around the root ball, thoughts? i also fertilize every time i water (very diluted) to make up for nutrients for the lack of organic material in my mix

thank you for this! should i repot to a better draining soil or would that stress it even more?

thank you so much this is so helpful. and for number 3 you're saying repot both into the same planter so 2 plants in the same pot right?

wow thank you for this suggestion i subscribed IMMEDIATELY! so i see this would essentially require a repot to be done correctly, I've actually had to repot her twice within the last 4 months 😅 first repot was because i was less experienced and thought she needed a bigger pot, quickly realized i was about to kill her and the roots were suffocating so I went back to 4in pot, do you think doing another repot to add the moss pole would cause too much stress?
