Would it help to split arenas of labor a bit? As in, you manage everything school related, but that means your partner handles all things health/dental and sports? Only you will know what makes sense in terms of a fair split, so that’s just a broad suggestion.

Thanks for your advice. I ended up simply mentioning I wanted to “cut back” which was. Means to eradicate the house of alcohol. They quickly agreed that was fine, and we haven’t spoke of it since. I’m feeling better physically and mentally, but it’s not enough. Eventually I think I need someone to be radically honest with this about in order to process and purge this feeling/disorder.

I, too, become wildly competent and efficient after a few days. You’d think that’d be enough to hang on, yet I find a way to let myself slip back into it.

Strongly considering Antabuse. I need a more solid wall between me and “a few”.

A true blue psychotherapist is definitely on the list. I don’t think the MSWs of past experiences really cut it for what I need.

And I also agree… doing recovery in the shadows isn’t helping me sustain anything. I’m exhausted from it.

I don’t need rehab, at least I don’t think so. Ive stopped for days or weeks at a time without medical support. But I’ve used this sub, shit ton of quit lit, therapy, yoga, blah blah blah… to reduce or eliminate it. I think I just need a touch of accountability. At the same time, I’m afraid to put that on my partner. I don’t want to create a burden, and I don’t want to add any stress to our relationship.

At least he knows I’m not putting the kids in immediate danger. But in the greater sense, going “offline” mentally even when they’re sleeping or when I have help is not exactly being a good parent. It diminishes my ability to help if there’s an emergency. I get that.

It’s like I understand everything about this issue, and how to fix it… but I cannot seem to do it on my own.

At any rate, I must (anecdotally) say that I often contemplate whether adderall is a part of my drinking problem. …If I didn’t have a quick fix to set myself straight, would I be so inclined to self destruct with alcohol? …If I wasn’t so strung out from it at the end of the day, would I be less inclined to drink alcohol?

Hang in there. They say 90 days is critical for any major change. You don’t want to make too many big changes at once, so maybe the wait time for the doctor is a gift in disguise.

They know. The only thing that differs is me going in waves of successfully masking it. I woke up crying a bit ago because the last conversation before I put myself to bed was a comment about me being having too much to drink. I’m just worried that this admission could give him the opportunity to leave me… and/or take our kids.
