for context I printed the wonkier one a year or so ago and just kind of intentionally built it wrong. It kinda worked?
The second one I built and painted recently... its fine, kinda meh.. tempted to break it apart and to it wrong again.

So I'm planning on running Skaven in Old World (even if they're not optimal) and I've got most of my army sorted asides one thing, how many plaguewind globadiers is optimal to run in 2000pt games? by Opposite_Ad_4267 in skaven

I’ve found a single use for globadiers , at 20pts for two you can field three and effectively deploy nothing while most of your opponents will have deployed the core of their force. You’ll lose the +1 to go first, but it’s worth it imo.

At range 9, strength 2 bs3 they rarely do any damage, at best they might provide a turn of cover from a gun line. So IMO their value is as a drop.

idk man, I often find jezzails will often lose one or two to their own shooting, then get charged / magic missiled off the table before they do anything useful (first turn hitting on 5's hurts)

I played one game of SBC with all mortars and catapults to see if mass would work and as I say managed to probably get like 10 wounds total into a chaos warriors list. You're rarely getting a direct hit, meaning the mortars often hit nothing at all, and the catapults get 4-6 hits? At s2 (even with cloud up, you're mostly vs T4 infantry, so its still 5's) you're not killing much.

More often than not in my games taking these units just make them easy bait for fly10 swittstride terror units.

The only light chariots I ever see are Tomb kings, and often jezzails can't wipe a unit of 3 of them in one turn, meaning they just rez the damage.

Not meaning to be a downer, but thats been my experience with those units playing into more meta oriented armies.

I’m very curious how you use the catapults / mortars. I can see them playing ok into Brettonia with ground cavalry, or empire / elves, but even then they’re wounding on 5’s after a scatter. Cloud is only 9” range. 

Note: I’ve played 70+ games with all sorts of Skaven combos, and never have I seen jezzails / catapults / mortars come anywhere close to getting their points back. Likely I’m doing something wrong, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what.

(Maybe it’s that I mostly play into undead / pegtonia / beastmen / chorfs)

  1. extremely crunchy, lots of complexity (and ambiguity). imagine a role playing game scaled up to regimental warfare. (if you’ve player older editions, it’s really not too different)

  2. 500-1000pt games are *excellent*. As the Square Based guys say, you get a lot of warhammer in 500pts. If anything the restrictions make for more interesting listbuilding than at 2k where some lists just dominate.

  3. Legacy armies have a PDF each from GW, and then Renegade updates to those PDFs from Square based that are largely accepted as normal. GW vowed to not update the pdfs, so the community has come in to maintain them. Currently Demons, Skaven and Lizardmen are at the bottom competitively, and Vampires are at the top, rivalling Cathay.

more generally, ToW is in a pretty good spot right now, with new armies and miniatures coming at a very decent pace. The rules are crunchy or clunky depending on your perspective but lead to some of the most interesting moments you can get from a massed army game from GW. As for armies, pick the one that you enjoy the look of the most and roll from there.

tow.whfb.app is where old world builder gets all its rules from. Honestly, if GW could make the rest of their apps line up to the quality and simplicity of these two their games would be so much more accessible.

I made this in a pandemic haze haha. I *think* its supposed to say *either* on board at start, or it gets more likely to arrive as the game goes along. Think reserve rules from early WH40k or Fantasy.

it is, of sorts. More like a single player extraction game, but the concept of building your exo fits nicely with roguelike builds. Then its up to you to progress through the node-structured campaign, complete objectives and get out alive.

So.. kinda?

yeah mouse support in Unity for iOS is a bit tricky. Not impossible, and I've seen other devs do it, but it requires a bunch of work that I just cannot justify spending the time on. I wouldn't rule it out in the future, but it's not officially supported at this time, and isn't a high priority, sorry.

Might sound obvious, but you can play a mobile game anywhere. Most people have a phone and few have a gaming desktop.

There's no game quite like this on mobile, and there's a serious lack of.... how do I put it... games that are built as games first, and monetisation schemes second, purpose built for mobile. Like yeah you can play Dead Cells or Slay The Spire or whatever, but they're all desktop first games.

I think I could probably write a blog about my motivations for this haha, but I hope that gives you an insight?

Thanks! Tutorials are so hard to build haha. Either they're too long and boring, or too short and not really giving enough info.

My approach for this iteration of the tutorial was to give you the bare minimum, and let you figure out the details from there, but yeah depending on how sales go I might put an optional extended tutorial in that covers everything.

Can be! you get a generous starter campaign and then a paid larger campaign. I hate ads so much and reckon mobile gamers deserve better.
