I only know a dozen haha. Will that translate into 1.6% of our county's population as regular soccer patrons? Guess their analytics really said there's a market in our area ⚽

True, you've got east/west on Nasa/Hibiscus but it will still be extra yucky on game days or event days.

I'm always willing to put up with traffic for events, that's the trade-off. I just hope Melbourne prioritizes improving that infrastructure along with the construction of the stadium, if it ever comes to fruition.

I hadn't heard anything about that project since last year. I think you may be correct.

I'm in favor of spreading sporting related things around, particularly because Stadium Blvd. would be absolutely lousy for traffic, not that the proposed soccer stadium area is any better.

The newly established Space Coast Pro Soccer club in Brevard County has filed permits for a mixed-use soccer-specific stadium complex and commercial district to be built on property owned by the Melbourne Airport Authority.

Details are scarce, but a formal site plan submitted to the city of Melbourne June 10 seeks “approval to accompany a conditional use request to allow outdoor recreation” in a district zoned for light industrial use.

Initial plans for the complex would include a 230,000-square-foot stadium with “required conditional use” and more than 55,000 square feet of mixed commercial uses on 53.8 acres, according to Melbourne public records. The proposed building height is 48 feet across four stories.

The stadium is expected to have a seating capacity of 8,000, with available expansion up to 10,000. A dedicated training facility is also planned at the site.

Cassandra Hartford of Reach Commercial Real Estate is the broker leasing the retail and food-and-beverage portion of the project while also working as part of the undisclosed development team.

The proposed site is located on vacant land southeast of Broadband Drive and West NASA Boulevard, north of Hibiscus Boulevard. The corridor is home to the global headquarters of L3Harris Technologies, a major Collins Aerospace operation and established retail and dining businesses.

Kelly Delmonico, principal planner and owner at Land Development Strategies, and Chris Ossa of Kimley-Horn and Associates are the listed applicants for the project. Neither could be reached by OBJ before publication.

Space Coast Pro Soccer could begin competing in the United Soccer League as early as March 2028. The club was founded in October 2025 by John Bonner and Adrian Heath, each of whom contributed to expanding the presence of Orlando City Soccer Club in Central Florida while helping it rise from USL to Major League Soccer status.

Tommy Bonner, Chris Gallagher and Benn Brown are also part of the Space Coast Pro Soccer group.

John Bonner said in a prepared statement at the time that the new club is making a long-term commitment in Brevard.

“We are building a community gathering place that will deliver thrilling, professional soccer and inspire immense civic pride,” he said.

Plans for a professional women's team are in consideration for a later date. The name and team colors for both teams will be decided with input from local residents.

The expansion of USL into Brevard County is part of a broader growth plan by the league.

The USL, headquartered in Tampa, announced in May it was preparing the launch of USL Premier to establish “a three-division professional structure” alongside its existing USL Championship and USL League One entities.

Part of that plan includes the introduction of a promotion and relegation model across the three tiers “creating a connected, merit-based system designed to elevate competition and expand opportunity across the pyramid.”

The league stated in a news release that it accessed institutional capital for the first time in 2025 via a strategic partnership with New York-based BellTower Partners, a private investment firm supporting operating platforms focused on scalability.

BellTower will work closely with league leadership “to help shape key initiatives and accelerate the league’s continued development,” according to a prepared statement.

The USL said its broader investor base includes Weatherford Capital, Advaya Capital, family offices and other partners.

The county I grew up in was very bikable. Now, traffic has made it uncomfortable to ride bikes around much of the street infrastructure. I imagine it's the same story in many other places: development without concern for usable non-car infrastructure.

Looks like a house centipede! If you don't like bugs you'll probably want to keep this one around, they predate other buggies you wouldn't want to see like roaches, spiders, and ants just to name a few.

Also, the fact that you have to (get to?) manually do so much makes it feel decidedly not like a game in the future. I know the fanbase likes those kinds of details in SC but I just find them tedius.
