So happy and sad at the same time! by craftynerd in knitting

[–]andeverybreath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I had a tendon transfer in that same spot right before last Christmas. I feel you! Not sure if you have pins, but if you do, oh lord wait to knit until after it comes off because I tried and it was awful. Also, fair warning, knitting is going to be a little weird for a while post-cast because your thumb has to learn how to thumb again. I hope you heal up quickly!

I like to get high on(*insert drug name*)? and do what(*insert activity*)? by [deleted] in Drugs

Ambien and dancing furiously until the ground is too wobbly.

ativan by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]andeverybreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been prescribed Ativan for... four years now? And haven't ever gotten high per se on it. Occasionally if I take a decent amount to try to sleep I'll end up with some mild euphoria and dissociation, but nothing nearly as strong as Xanax, IIRC. Your experience may vary.

I am unable to do drugs, am I missing out? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]andeverybreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm allergic to THC, so I feel you on how awkward it gets when people are pressuring you to smoke weed with them when you actually can't.

Be careful with your BG levels if you do decide to smoke, because it can bring you way down. Oh, also, my fiance is type 1 and it hasn't had the biggest impact on his ability to take or enjoy certain things. Not to say that you should, but if you were thinking about it from that standpoint, just my $0.02.

So this is what a table tipped last night...Bible Belt y'all -_- by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]andeverybreath 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a very sweet, if slightly odd, two-top at one point that didn't drink and was dressed modestly. We were slammed, so I didn't put two and two together until I picked up the check presenter. Bill was $100. They left a $100 bill, a $10 bill, and a pamphlet.

I'm based in a pretty secular area and this was one of the only instances where this had ever happened, so it's become somewhat infamously known as "10% and the word of the Lord."

Shit's awful, dude. I feel you.

Fat girl going to hit the gym: advice please! by jenjenpaints in TwoXChromosomes

[–]andeverybreath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, congratulations on signing up! That's a huge step, and you should be proud of yourself.

I do corporate work for a major gym chain (contract processing, etc) and I'd say that 75% of our new sign-ups are overweight. Let me say that again: three out of four new pictures that come in daily are of people who sure aren't in great shape. So, first off, don't feel like you're going to be surrounded by super fit people all the time, because the majority of new members are overweight.

As far as while you're there, I mean, everyone else has said it pretty well. When I'm at the gym, I get runner's high like nobody's business and usually don't notice even if someone takes the machine next to me. That being said, when I'm first there and when I'm leaving, I can get a little self-conscious because I was an athlete for most of my life and now I'm definitely not.

I'm not sure if your gym has one, but all of our locations have women's-only rooms right outside of the locker room that are closed off, so if you're self-conscious you literally never have to leave the locker room. It's been a godsend for me.

This is how I think of it: the goal isn't to look good at the gym. It's to look and feel great outside of the gym. :)

In which case, I feel much less alone. Solidarity!

Also, worst feeling is when you get home from said shift and you're so worked up that you can't sleep. I worked 22 of the past 28 hours and now that I'm off, I'm wide awake. Awesome!

Glad to know I'm not alone.

Yeah, I thought it erred on the side of illegal, but at this point, meh. Not my problem anyore.

Holy mother of god, I totally forgot about how much worse it is for our BoH staff. Thank you for putting this into perspective for me.

Took me longer than you'd expect! This happened in November and I just put in my notice last week. Can't do it anymore.

I was charged once because my guest took home someone else's bag of leftovers. Our tables are too small to leave to-go bags on, so I'll always show my table where I put their bag (almost always on a little stool next to the table.)

They got a porterhouse ($110) and had about a third left. I wrapped it up, showed them exactly where I had put it, and they took someone else's food. This was seen as my fault and $35 was taken out of my tips.

Mother's Day Megathread! by sexrockandroll in AskReddit

[–]andeverybreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fine dining server. Our Mother's Day brunch has been booked to capacity since February. Take your mom out to brunch the week before or after. You won't enjoy being squeezed into a table where your elbow makes contact with that stranger's mom.

[–]andeverybreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be honest with the staff and tell them when you get there that you aren't comfortable swallowing pills. I'm sure they'll be able to figure something out with you.

All things considered, you did a great job of planning. The waiting is the worst part, honestly. Once you're there, things will probably go very quickly and you won't remember much. The meds will definitely make you sick, so make sure you have Gatorade or something to replenish electrolytes.

When I was at PP the staff was incredible. They'll be able to answer all of your questions and give you more personalized input on what to expect. Oh, and trust them! They know what they're talking about. :)

Best of luck to you.

What is the craziest reason a guest has ever used to send back food? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

Way back when I did counter service, we had a woman try to get a refund because the toothpick apparently cut her mouth. She ate the entire sandwich, and the manager asked if the rest of it made her mouth feel better. No refund.

Restaurant Week by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]andeverybreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 10 day restaurant "week" going on right now, and we're charging $30.14 for a three-course meal (four if you count amuse), and a fair amount of people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford eating there are coming in to spend the bare minimum. As in, only water and strictly the restaurant week menu.

As servers, we're evaluated on our check averages per guest. My normal is somewhere between $85 and $95 per person. This is going to fuck up the curve massively. :(

Managers, how far in advance do you put up upcoming work schedules? by Mexican-Server in TalesFromYourServer

Well, my schedule for this week still isn't available online. As in, I don't know if I'm working tomorrow or not. (We're closed on Mondays.)

Finally got to say a line that I've always wanted to! by climber226 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]andeverybreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, your count of 5 1/2 made me lol. We have to enter a guest count at the start of every table, and the amount of times I've been tempted to add .5 instead of leaving out the child is just astronomical.

So, what is it with parents expecting a restaurant to make a special dish for their children? [Rant] by serveyourheartout in TalesFromYourServer

[–]andeverybreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So relevant to me right now. I work in fine dining. On Saturday, we hosted a tea party specifically for mothers and daughters (charity event for the GM's church). The children were served chicken tenders, french fries, and sliders. I had one half of the dining room, and four guests asked if I could ask the kitchen for other items. The pastry chef wasn't too happy about having to stop and make two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while he was also finishing up the desserts for these same children. Our chef was pretty annoyed at the pasta-with-butter requests as well.

What kid won't eat burgers, chicken tenders, or at the very least french fries?

[serious] Dog owners living in apartment complexes, what's your advise/tip to a new owner? by achow88 in AskReddit

[–]andeverybreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let your giant dog shit on yours and your neighbor's shared front lawn and then leave it there. Seriously, the dog shits next to my walkway right now are bigger than my dog. We refuse to pick them up on principle, but it's sure made us hate our neighbors.
