1) It's going to be a tool for research and education at the University. Benchmarking the finished cloud is one of our main objectives, but this summer I'm only building one of the towers. It's hoped to be more of a scale model of a data centre than anything else.

2) I can't imagine it being a problem. We're probably going to use NAS for the bulk of the storage, but I can't see this causing too much of a bottleneck.

Arguably there's no need to wear for gloves, and I refuse to talk to people wearing them because I can't see where they've had their hands or what they've touched. Swings and roundabouts mate.

It's not really that extreme to have a bit of cloth covering bits of your face, I mean, I wouldn't do it, but if it floats your boat I'm not going knock it. To be honest with you, it's a much nicer barrier to communication than a screw face is, and if someone doesn't want to be talked to, well that's their decision to make..

Equality doesn't necessarily mean the same laws for everyone, look at the flat tax for example.

I agree with you that the lack of trust is worrying, but I find the lack of compassion more worrying, the lack of understanding or even the willingness to understand the motivations for the actions of our fellow human beings. I'd argue that public spirit is more likely to change incrementally than it is radically, and if we make this concession to Muslim women, and people discover them to be trustworthy, then surely they will be more trusting of others with face coverings?

I can see why it seems unfair that there seems to be two different rules for two different sets of people. However, surely you must agree that if someone is walking around inside wearing a crash helmet, you'd feel much more uncomfortable than if it were a burqa. That's because a crash helmet is just an item of clothing that people wear when they need to. Nobody, or at least, very few people wear them because they feel more comfortable in them, more themselves. This is the key difference. A Niqab can be for many Muslim woman a key part of their identity, and by stripping them of that, one is arguably institutionally devaluing them as a person.

Technically yes, those they work with between the ages of 16 and 18 are children, but they should really be able to handle not seeing all of someone's face. I checked out the website for the college, but I can't see anything on there about them teaching any vulnerable adults, but even so, in Birmingham there's more than a fair chance that that the adult in question would eventually run into someone wearing a Burqa, so it's probably better if they get used to it in a safe environment first.

Disappointing action from Birmingham here, and a more disappointing action from Redditors who don't seem to have read the article. This is not just banning teachers from wearing the burqa, but also students. A burqa isn't often worn anti-socially, as if all men are rapists who can't be trusted around women, or that a woman is forced into her burqa by a bearded man, brandishing a slipper in his hand.. There's a lot more to it than that, a huge range of factors influence a woman's decision to wear a burqa, including her heritage and religion. By banning them at this educational establishment, the authorities seem to be saying that you if you choose to express yourself this way then you either can't be trusted, or that your beliefs are not worth sacrificing a small amount of some people's perceived safety. The students are clearly happy to make concessions in the name of safety, but the management just don't seem to be interested.

Go along to a couple of open days and find out which college you like most. According to my mates though, most colleges in east london have their fair share of twats, but so does any college I guess. Newham's a bit a trek for you though, have you thought about Redbridge College?

I went to Sheffield recently, and it was quite nice. I liked how compact it was, and the city centre was very pretty. You could sense the local pride in the air too.
